This is so sad...

I don't know what is worse: the situation of the innocent children or the lack of knowledge of adults who think the US is any different today from it's tainted past.

When I first heard the story of the "guinea pig kids", I instinctively refused to believe that it could be happening in any civilised country, particularly the United States, where the propensity for legal action normally ensures a high level of protection.

Aparently this person never heard of the Tuskegee Experiment.

"Beginning in the 1930s, 399 men signed up with the U.S. Public Health Service for free medical care. The service was conducting a study on the effects of syphilis on the human body. The men were never told they had syphilis. They were told they had "bad blood" and were denied access to treatment, even for years after penicillin came into use in 1947. By the time the study was exposed in 1972, 28 men had died of syphilis, 100 others were dead of related complications, at least 40 wives had been infected and 19 children had contracted the disease at birth." This method is nothing new -taking advantage of those who are sick and experimenting on them. I wonder how much money is being made by those higher-ups in the ACS for providing the guinea pigs to Glaxo SmithKline? Someone is making some money here! I'm sick to my stomach from seeing these things happening.

Ya know, if an organization like PETA can exist for the protection of animals, what the hell are we doing?

i am now painfully well aware that you have recently signed a multi-million dollar contract with the beleaguered air canada, much to the chagrin of its workers i might add whio have been forced to take a pay hike to pay for your advertisement.

hell, this is canada, anything that makes little sense is tolerated here.

the reason that i am so painfully aware of the fact that you sub-contract to air canada is that the bloody song that you sing on that bloody advert of theirs is like some damned terminal viral outbreak.

the gb wants a period of proving yourself worthy to be back in the "fold".

My whole family NEVER made me feel bad for my choice. NEVER made me feel guilty for separating from them all these years. NEVER humiliated me with "I told you so's" even tho' preaching at them was my only means of communication and they hated it. They all said they were so happy to have me back as a part of the family. I have no testing period to see if I'm worthy, regular communication both ways, and genuine love for the person they know me to be. I even got encouragement to acclimate at my own pace. I think Brooklyn could use a lesson.

I have friends who were not as fortunate. I know what it means to have genuine family who give unconditional love.

I was shopping in Germany last year with a woman friend when we found ourselves peering into a fragrants shop [no, not Reepabahn...lol]. There was a picture of Celine swinging on a crescent moon [I think] advertising her parfum. My friend looks at it, look at me and says, 'Who wants to smell like Celine Dion?'

I just think she's an example of a child taken from her parents too soon...

You DON'T Have To Listen To The Elders If They Say They Want To Meet ....

everyone that is in the process of leaving dreads the thought of having the elders approach them, call them, etc.

the fact is----just because they say they want to meet with you or just because 2 elders stop by to visit you----you don't have to deal with them at all.

simply tell them you won't meet with them, you won't talk to them.

I don't know your background but it's safe assume you've resolved your inner conflicts with the dubs. I commend you!

Alot of us who are in some form of recovery [my recovery is based on the 12-step program - affective to a major extent for me] go through a process to find the source of our dis-ease. I like to confront it and resolve it. I'm not validating these FOOLS but, I am confronting and conquering my fears by being able to face these FOOLS and watch them scuffle and be uncomfortable about their bogus proceedures. Do you see how this could help others or are you into invalidating an approach that didn't originate from you. I'm sorry, I'll back off. Is it possible for you to be empathetic? This seems to be lacking on these boards and not necessarily from you....

They can't force you to listen to them or engage in dialogue with them. Don't be afraid of the elders. They're only "men".

Minimus, we're on the same team though. I do agree with you and I don't want to be too biligerent but I am a sensitive person [on several levels] and I don't want to be misunderstood.

i know of more than one situation when two young jw's (say, 15 and 16) who have been caught "fornicating" and been given the option of getting married or getting df'd.

Recently 2 young couples, in their late teens all of the ones involved, had to get married without so much as a little get together in someone's house. Plenty of rumors that they did the deed prior to marriage, but one of the girls is an elder's daughter and one of the guys is a ministerial servant, so.... hush, hush everybody

Yeah, I remember seeing that double-standard bulls**t on a weekly basis.

My best friend had that same situation when he was a young dub. They had one child together while they were both studying and another baby a year or two later! That's when the faux bros said,'Now wait a minute!' LOL! The were around 17-18.

I was told by my mother not to show up at a convention in Montreal with my pregnant girlfriend unless I had a marriage certificate in my hand. I married the girl without asking her father first! That was pretty rude [He paid me back for years for that move]. I was 17, she was 18. She wanted to go live in a commune, have the baby and then maybe seeing me again in a couple of years to show me the baby[her wishes]. If only I had complied... Instead, I thought I was supposed to marry her and 'take care' of the family. How noble. F***ed-up my career oppourtunities [and what little drive/ambition I had maintained in myself inspite of the Borg] because, you know, we were living in 1977 and any day... but, I digress...

well, a few months ago, i found out a friend of mine was a dub.

he gave me one of the 'gems' of his dub days saying that he held onto this pamphlet for so long for no apparent reason.
