  Higher Education: Is The Issue Really That Important?

  the catholics think they have the true religion, but they don't discourage higher education.. the protestants think they have the true religion, but they don't discourage higher education.. the j.w.

  's think they have the true religion, but yet they do discourage higher education.. why?

  do they really think there would be a mass exodus from the org.

  One thing that have been thinking about recently regarding the WTS's position on "higher education" is that it helps them weed out the people with a Rebellious Spirit™, and reward people who obediently follow the WTS's directives by doling out Privileges™ to them, while withholding Privileges™ from others who disregard the Suggestions™ from the Organization™. It is about CONTROL, more than anything, and finding out who is willing to subjugate themselves to the Organization™'s directives and who is not.

  that could be, but in my area I can name at least 5 young elders under 30 years old who have an education and only 1 young elder under 30 without an education. very limited sample, I realize, but it doesn't seem to hold the brothers back. I'm not so sure about the sisters, though.

  the july 15th watchtower is dealing with murmuring?.

  subheadings 'an evil assembly murmurs against jehovah'.

  keep trying to get to your meetings remember the sister who walked 2 hours one way to feast at the spiritual banquet , or the bro who crossed crocodile infested waters to get to his meeting.. anyone remember any other guilt trip inducing illustrations?

  I never truly bought into those stories. After a while, I would openly say I didn't believe them at all. Nobody else did, either.

  you make a good point, lyineyes! I sometimes wonder how this younger generation will change things, you know - the y generation (why generation?). It could become the norm to pick and choose what they want and leave what they don't and maybe not be so harsh and judgemental about it. That could lessen the pain this religion has been causing many people. I don't know how that would go over in most congregations I know, but maybe it's what's in store for the future. who knows.

  has it ever just hit you that you need to crawl out of the hole you have been in and that you didnt even notice it?

  just a couple of days ago, i awoke to the feeling of needing to change some things.

  most of you know that i lost my sister right before xmas and that hit me hard, knocked me to my knees and i honestly think that is where i have been for awhile.

  Anyone like me....

  not feeling like there life's been affected that negatively by their involvement with jw's?.

  i ask because while i do believe being raised a jehovahs witness has probably done me some considerable emotional damage, i still can't imagaine it hurt me anymore (and in a lot of cases i'm sure it did far less damage) than the average non jw upbringing.

  i had no debilitating diseases, no broken family, kind and loving parents etc...you get my point though?.

  I can relate to some of what you were saying, keepitsane. Revisiting my past experiences and feelings made me angry at first. But that's part of the process of moving on and getting past everything. And as you start to figure things out, being able to put the past in a new perspective is a big part of learning about yourself and preventing yourself from making the same mistakes over and over again.

  You said you have no problem with other people believing in JW teachings. At first, I had a lot of resentment toward JW's believing what they do, but I realize now that everyone is responsible for making their own decisions on what to believe, so I leave that up to them, but I still feel bad for their kids. I think there is so much about that religion that can cause a person to not trust themselves which leads to different types of abuses. Some people probably naturally have stronger self-assurance that protects them from a lot of things that would destroy someone else.

  Some people need someone to talk to about this stuff. I know I did at first, and it was such a relief to find out I wasn't the only person with these feelings and experiences. That's part of what this board is for.

  This isn't the first "get over yourself" message I've seen here and it isn't going to be the last. Most people probably won't even bother to respond to such threads, but for some reason I thought your post was maybe a little different.

  My District Convention Is Being Held At An Assembly Hall

  if this topic has been discussed previously, i apologize, but next week i unfortunately must attend the dc which is being held at the local assembly hall.

  there are benefits to this as i don't have to rent a car or room for myself and family.

  the downside to this is that it will now be harder to miss segments of the program or an entire day without being scrutinized.

  In my area they are meeting in high school auditoriums for the DC this year.

  But since they are still building kingdom halls, even if they are in fact selling off other halls at the same time, I don't think anyone around my area thinks they are going through a decline in numbers.

  if you mean "es", where you put "eh", I really don't see how the person who announced they are laughing laughing laughing at the board as a whole, would take such sensitive offense to someone saying they are laughing laughing laughing at one of her posts.

  jeez!

  but with message boards, misunderstandings always happen, it's hard to know the meaning of a post or who it's directed to sometimes.... as you probably know....why am I still on this thread? .... ahhhh!.... bye!
