i came home today to find my wife crying whilst reading the 'when a loved one leaves jehovah' article.
its been a good few months now and i can appreciate how she feels.
but it just irritates me how my disagreeing with this religion has such a catastrophic effect on our everyday lives.
Personally I hope my parents do have miserable bloody lives and get upset lots and lots! They have given me hours of grief - they deserve it back. Yes thats you mum and dad and especially you DAD because you are not stupid and you should have seen through this whole scam!

I'm dealing with that situation, but took a different road. You said your decision tore the family apart, but it was really their decision to make to join this religion and allow it to push them around. I know what you are thinking, though. The more I think about it, the more I feel the government should step up their "freedom of religion" laws, making harrassment after leaving a religion illegal along with government sanctioned religion. They really get away with way too much. It's not right.

IMHO - a troll usually posts something to get people angry, like a person who represents himself as an active JW and comes here to tell us we all deserve to die at armageddon or something like it. This person represented himself as what he thought would be our wet dream - a recently laid off exbethelite who is now disillusioned with the religion. I didn't buy it from the moment I saw it because I assumed there are jokers out there who figure it's the sort of story JWD would love to hear.

You're probably right on that point, Lonelysheep. I just think of all the people out there looking for babies, babies, babies. The kids and young teens just need a home, period. But the babies - there are plenty of people wanting those, let those go to families better equipped to care for the child's physical, mental and emotional needs and provide them with what they need to "integrate into society" as someone mentioned. The JWs just don't do that for their kids. Although I'm sure plenty of adoptive parents are just as crazy.

I don't think anyone from a cult should be allowed to adopt. I feel adoption agencies should add it to the extensive list of their restrictions definitely.
I can't imagine growing up in a JW family and then finding out I was adopted and the adoption agency knew they were JWs and let them adopt anyway. I would be so pissed off.
Although, that doesn't mean a JW family can't be one of those rare families that are actually ok - you know the kind - they pick and choose what they will and won't do and they are probably ok in some cases.
Does anyone know if a non-JW family who has adopted a child is allowed to become a JW after the adoption?

I pitched most everything I had, but only kept my Revelation book, Live Forever in Paradise book. Also, from my grandfather's old collection, I have an older bible from the 70's (?), which has some different wording here and there from the newer bibles, and a Watchtower BV from some time in the 1950's stating they would approve of putting to death all disfellowshipped people (or was it just apostates?) as was done in Hebrew times, but those pesky "laws of Caeser" keep getting in the way of them having any fun. I really liked that one.
Off topic, I've seen two different videos from Africa (one internet and one on the "current" station on cable) of women getting stoned to death. Horrendous. These ancient Hebrews the JWs aspire to copy? Savages.

Not to make a fuss, but we were pretty harsh on this guy from the very beginning, culminating in a moderater calling him "troll". Which he deserved, definitely I'm sure. Well done Scully!
I wish the hate spewing JW believers that come here to start fights would get the same treatment. I'm just saying... we usually coddle them and hold their hands until they push it too far and get deleted. Same waste of time, different day.
the jehovah's witness religion is destructive to families and debilitates personal, individual development.. it corrupts and weakens any society which allows it to thrive..
without explaining details, this is as concise a statement as i can make regarding the entire witness structure.
i thought about this late last night and wrote this.
It's pretty screwed up, but I don't think I'll live to see them shut down by a government, at least not in the US, or pretty much anywhere else.
They will continue to have their legal problems, of course, but for the most part what they are doing is not illegal. The misleading, false prophesies, outright lies, and controlling nature of this group is all very upsetting but it is, at the moment, not illegal.
What I would like to see is someone raising an issue about the voting policy. This policy is illegal, of course they think they have themselves covered by having "it's a conscience matter" in writing, but we all know that means "we can still disfellowship you for it". That sort of harrassment disenfranchises many people and should be stopped. If I end up getting disfellowshipped for that, I will sue them.

You have a good face, nice bone structure, but you look ordinary with the beard. And kinda mean. And we know you you're not mean. Not a bit. Although you do look younger with it, so if mean and young is what you are going for, then keep it.
