Wow, thanks Blondie! I really enjoyed reading about this study.

Translation: the evil slave is anybody who doesn't agree with us, and they don't agree with us, not because we are full of BS, but because what they really don't like is going in field service. That was the whole reason the evil slave decided to become evil, not because of failed prophesy. You don't want to be an evil slave, do you? Then you better get back to business!

How ridiculous. And to think a few years ago, this stuff just would have made me feel bad. Now, seeing it for what it truly is, what a great feeling!

True. Still, many Witnesses pride themselves on thinking they know more than most of "this world's" experts in most subjects. After all, they were right about that Dr. Spock! hmm..

I, for one, didn't have much of a choice about college. 1975 or not, my parents weren't going to pay for it because it was "dead works". And at the time, it was ok for guys to go because they were someday going to need to care for their households, but not for girls, unless they made the full time ministry their goal. (I should have just lied about that and said that's what I intended to do.) Still, all that doesn't stop me from trying to get a degree now. It's a lot harder that it could be, with working full time, but lots of people have that situation. Yeah, I'm way behind everyone else my age, but I really feel bad for people who are in their 40s and 50s now, who are so far behind and really need to scramble to get ready for retirement.

some feel that you should put out a history of who you are, what your life was and is like now and express it in a very simple way so that everyone can "know" you.

we've had posters say they were elders, elder's sisters, hurt jws, etc.

it could all be a little fantasy.

i opened the daily text yesterday at dinner with my family, and at first glance i see the scripture quotation of april 20. short and to the point, i must admit.... "she just made us come.

"- acts 16:15. as funny as that scripture is by itself, what's funnier is that there is so much more to verse 15. i dont know if someone did that on purpose, but it's just such a weird piece of scripture to put, without putting the first part of the scripture there, so that it actually makes some kind of sense and means something.

i read the text at least twice a week and i have found that they do that frequently.

brings back some great memories... My parents only did that when we were real little. And they would ask us questions.. that stuff was so hard ! Made dinner time lot of fun (not really) my dad would get so mad when we didn't know any answers. They should have known from that I'd grow up to have no appreciation for spiritual things!

it sure sounds like it to me; jw doctrine more or less scared me into thinking that god is going to kill all persons whom he/she thinks is not doing his will.

my question is, how can god kill someone for not being "christian", or following the bible out of sheer ignorance?

Yes, I'm thinking along those lines, too.

There should be more people that want to take over the world nonviolently by using auto indoctrination. Entire governments should pick this stuff up. It is a ready-made template for social reform.

I think governments have used religion in this way all along and will wish they could continue to. It's easier to get people to agree to keep themselves within the law, and can be used to get people to agree with more difficult policies, etc.

IMHO.

"Because They're A Cult"........

yesterday, a business associate asked me why jws would not celebrate a birthday, a bar mitzvah, or any other holiday.

he asked why they literally believed only 144,000 go to heaven.

he asked how they could celebrate everything 1 year and the next year, tell their families that everything is pagan........my answer to all of his questions, were "it's because they're a cult.

Do I think Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult? I keep flip flopping on my opinion on this. I think it depends on what perspective you have of religion in general.

As of today, I think Jehovah's Witnesses are typical of disappointed millenarians still expecting the end of the world, desperately clinging to their beliefs despite a long history of failed prophecies. Yes, they use "high control" tactics as part of their strategy to keep people from leaving, and to get new people to join. I've seen where that has been defined as a cult, but I just hate the word "cult". I'm sick of feeling like a cult victim.

I can understand the need to keep it short with people who don't know anything about the Witnesses, but I don't want people to paint me with the "former cult victim" brush.

what purpose does it serve?

It seems that those that have even a glimpse of spirituality and faith, are the ones that are ridiculed most..............shame on the ones that this applies to.You know who you are.

I can see your point here. Just because I haven't figured out if I can believe in God or Christianity doesnt mean I should criticize anybody who still does believe in it. I'm sorry for having done that to a few people on this board.

If JWD were to shut down tommorow......

for good....... just say...... all contacts on here would be shut off, you would have no way of contacting anyone on here that you may have done before or do now, you would be left as you stand now, still with your family and friends, work colleagues in whatever capacity you enjoy them in real life, but without those you now know onscreen through this forum.

would you be able to pick your life back up and carry on.

i don't ask this lightly, i just wonder after reading a few posts recently in the last couple of years just how seriously some hold this forum almost to the point that it seems central to their lives (and that maybe so).. how would you feel?.

Well, I sure as heck would get more work done, if you know what I mean... I think my boss would like it.

I would be a little sad, though. I get a few kicks out of coming here and discussing the Witnesses. I'd probably go through a few sudden withdrawal symptoms at first, that I hope would level out after a while, and then I'd be ok. I guess. Yeah, I'd be ok.

i came in from my break and she was reading a watchtower!

i said "are you a witness?

I still can't get past that she was reading the Watchtower in her cube. She doesn't know there's nobody from the KH there to give out brownie points for that? How lame.

I guess I was never really a good dub.
