Jaredg--thanks for posting this link. This whole talk was insanity. The thing that bothers me the most is those well-meaning ones I knew in there who I know in there who are still able to swallow this stuff down. Anyone who starts to use their brain at all will have to go on medication in order to remain in a state of denial when hearing stuff like this (many of them are already on meds). Sadley, I heard from some who atended the assembly who contacted me to let me know what I was missing out on and how wonderful it all was!!! I am sad over their insanity and uncomfotable to know that I was once involved in all of it.
i am in a relationship with a man who is jw.
the things he tells me leads me to believe that their beliefs espouse doing nothing to better the world as it is hopeless, and all is coming to an end anyway.
this seems like a cowardly way to face the hardships in this world.
JWs believe that anyone and everyone who is not JW will be destroyed (slaughtered by God) very shortly now. After that these dead non-JW will be dead on the ground (as manure) and the birds of the heavens will come and pick the flesh off their bones (there are pictures in the publications that show these sorts of things) They believe that only they "JWs" will survive and inherit everything on the earth. JWs don't believe in associating with anybody but JWs because the world is lying in the power of Satan and everyone not JW is on Satan's side of the issue is soon to be slaughtered.. Does that qualify as gloom and doom?

I haven't been to a meeting in over a year now. We're the articles always written like this? It sounds as if they are talking to children here. The sentence speaking of the FDS is the real clencher. "Trust the faithful and discreet slave"--in otherwords listen to their voice as they are speaking for God (in the place of God) and obeying them will mean our eternal life.
I also noticed their overly abundant use of the exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we?d have little more than 100 dollars for groceries, laundry, personal necessities, and transportation.....i became more and more depressed.
I have to admit Franny that one was a "bit" depressing. But being that you are here and writing about it gives me hope that you are carrying on. You are really pouring yourself out in these writings.... I will keep reading on....

Looking forward to it Wolfy. If they start talking like this all the time they are going to scare off even more of their more "sane" members. Then they will be dealing with a large group of paranoid crazy people. Any with half a brain who are left in there will have to shut down and go into total denial. this group gets more pathetic all the time. I really feel for the nicer bunch of JWs who are still stuck in there by family, familiarity, etc.

The illustration that was often used in the Org over and over and over and over and over again was the one about the meetings being like a physical meal. "You want to prepare for that meal and then you will get so much more enjoyment and nutrition out of it. Not preparing before a meeting is like not preparing a meal. Think about eating a bunch of raw potatoes without cooking them first--they would not be very tasty nor digestable. Thus preparing ahead for taking in "spiritual food" is much like preparing ahead for physical food" If you don't prepare ahead you could end up not enjoying the meal or perhaps, or as I had heard it "suggested" you could end up with indigestion.
Remember at the assembly when they reviewed at the beginning of it telling us to let all our cares go--to focus and prepare our minds for the fine spiritual food that we were about to partake of? I think this constant repetition and clearing the mind of all other though is all a part of their tecnique. I know some here don't like to use the term "brainwashing" but to me this term fits the description of the WT teaching methods to the "T"
I began to see the patterns with this over the years--in the talks and in the magazines -- much of the teaching methods used are based on the "sandwich". I have also heard of the elders use the "sandwich" tecnique when giving councel. The sandwich is a term used by some elders and they describe it like this: First you start with the "bread" (the soft squishy stuff) you build the person up and tell them how loved and worthy they are. In the middle to the councel is the "meat" or the hard hitting (beat you over the head) councel. After that you end with the bread again--the soft squishy stuff--the encouragement to keep on in the faith. The elders are trained in tecniques. As JW we were trained how to talk with people using convincing arguments. We were brainwashed to brainwash. That is the only term I can think to use for it.

" some of you had the privilege of going to the "ministerial training school.
" others of you had to wait 6 months after reinstatement for the "privilege" of commenting at the meetings.

Welcome ,I have seen your other posts recently. Yes, even getting a vasectomy was something that was "suggested" could cause one to lose their "privleges" in the congo. "Suggested" is one of words used by the WT, which seemed to create many grey areas and problems. These things were a "matter of conscience" or a "grey area." I once heard a talk where the vaz thing was mentioned as being one one of those unmentionable things--if you had one don't tell anyone--it could "stumble" some who are "weak in their faith". "Stumble" is something a witness doesn't want to do because the teaching is that if you "stumble" someone by your actions and they leave the "truth" because of it you will be held accountable to God for their death. Guilt, fear and paranoia is a major part of the WT spiritual feeding program. All I can say is for you to read on..... I have just recently left the Org after 20 plus years in there. Strangely I followed along with all these things for all those years. I think the WT kept us all so busy and exhausted with activity we really didn't have time to think from one day to the next. When I finally stood back and took a look at for what it really was--Yikes, how bizarre! I am still taking it apart piece by piece. This site has helped me purge up the bits and pieces of my past belief and examine it for what it truly was. Was it really a privlege to be cleaning a toilet at the Kingdom hall while wearing your dress clothes? If a man had a vasectomy was he then not capable of taking care of Kingdom hall business thus losing his "privleges" of doing so. Privleges: AKA giving talks, passing out books and magazines in the back room, handling the microphones and sound equipment, offered councel and support to others in the congo. Hey, I forgot about this one--I noticed those on "reproof" who were not allowed the "privlege" to answer at the meeting, but were still allowed the "privlege" of halls cleaning (an inconsistency?). Being on "reproof" means you did something wrong, but are repentant, but still being punished by losing your "prileges" for a period of time designated by the elders. Actually "being on reproof" was supposed to be an old term that was changed a few years back, but the elders in my previous congo were confused and being "on reproof" was still practiced in that congo. Or, at least that is what I heard, but like I said there are inconsistences in this Org, even though we were all taught that what really held the Org together was being "united in our worship."
