I want to know this one too. I remember years ago it was a matter of conscience, but then heard or read in a mag or somewhere that if a man does have one he should not talk about it as it may stumble others.

That is why some of us were never that good at converting people. I think deep down we knew something was amiss so we were a whole lot less zealous at the door than others. I personally never insisted or cohersed anyone into a study--if they weren't interested i never pushed it, thus in all my 20 years I never had a successful bible study or one who became a JW because of me. Some though were quite pushy (AKA zealous) and had more success. You had to be really persistent to get anyone to join the cult--it was hard for most to swallow....

They were always putting down the Pharisees for all the burdens they put upon people in ancient days. But from the other side of their mouth they were micro-managing our lives to the extreme...There are long lists of articles warning us on the dangers of incense, windchimes, parades, fireworks, sending valentines, participating in after school activites and on and on and on--none of which were mentioned in the scriptures....
Makes me think of Jesus when he called the Pharisees blind guides, who strain out the camel and gulf down the gnat and overlook the weightier matters of the law, namely justice, mercy, and faith... After that he called them hypocrites because they looked good on the outside, but inside they were full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. Don't know how much of the bible I believe in anymore, but this part seems to fit the Org to a T.

Remember when they used to tell us that the reason many didn't enjoy field service was because you weren't doing it enough and the more you did it the more Jehovah's spirit would bless you and the more you would love it? (The old taste and see if Jehovah is good routine.)
Well, the more I did the more I didn't like it and then I would feel bad and think that there was something wrong with me--why didn't I feel like I was suppose to feel? I shudder to think of it all... Sure was a bunch of twisted mind games they played on us.

Yes, I suppose if you ad the times and the times and the times and half..and then there was the bit about the 2 witnesses that were dead and came alive again and started to preach again in 1918, but of course there weren't actually 2 of them--that 2 symbolized a group of those annointed ones who seem to be getting rather senile now in their old age...

Haven't read the mags for a while now, but any JW that can add and subtract will be looking at the Noah's 120 years and adding it up. 1914 plus 120 years--not to difficult to figure that one...I can imagine they will be losing a few more after this when they think to themselves: only 34 more years of meetings to go (or 56 weeks times 3 meetings per week equals 168 meetings per year times 34 years equals 5712 meetings) Oh boy, it's the countdown now only 5712 meetings to go!
