Guess i didn't think that deeply about it, because I am still impressed by the fact that those who held these lofty positions in the Org--who knew the inside scoop on things--had the guts to get off their high horse and set things right. Kind of like a high government official admitting he was wrong--way more impact on the public than if Joe Doaks admits he was wrong. I think the fact that some of these men used to be elders is more impressive to the public in general. But the point is they are no longer in the Org and most of us are no longer in the Org and the fact that we can relate to each other in the way that we do on this site and express our open opinions to each other is proof of this. So it's all good. I am impressed with everyone who has the guts to stand up for what is right despite the consequences--no matter what position they held in a past life.

Aloha Kibi,
Do hope that you and your hubby can exit together. It will be harder for him if he was raised up as a JW, as the programming was more deeply instilled. Many of us here were in for many years and left, so it is possible, but the breakaway can be tough. Without overwhelming hubby all at once there are things you could share with him that might be easier for him to process. The beginning of my end was doing cross referencing on some of the subjects in the WT --the inconsistencies of doctrine and instruction made me realize how unstable the religion was and how it was impossible to follow the ever changing law books of the WT publications. There are many sites that bring out these inconsistencies by cross referencing the WT magazines with each other. About the UNs involvement with the WTBTS; this information can be found on the UNs own website. If you need some help finding that there is a post in here somewhere that tells you how to navigate their site to find it. If you need some help with that send me a message and I will find it for you. There is much more proof out there is a person wants to see it. The problem is some are not willing or able to change. But there is life beyond the WT so keep on reading...
The best to you and hubby,
Love cybs

I think this list would be impressive to ones who are newly out...I mean if elders leave then it gives the average JW a feeling that WOW, I can do it too. I was happy to know that those who had loftier"positions" in the Org left too. I had bad experiences with elders applying their corrupt WT policies and was comforted to know there were a few good men who stood up for what was right. While not bowing down to them because of their former positions I applaud them having the courage to speak out for the wrong and in stepping down from their lofty places in the Org. I was impressed in this way...

The people who write Watchtower articles - what do you know about them?
by truthseeker ini don't know if this topic has been discussed before, but i have some questions about how witnesses get to write articles in the watchtower.. while reading a few of maximums' posts from 2 years ago, there was one from barbara anderson who briefly described the internal politics between the editors of the awake and the editors of the watchtower.. i'm more interested in the watchtower writers though than the awake, as this is supposed to be the "spiritual food" we are all to take in and absorb.. so how does one get to be a watchtower writer?
do you have to be able to write well?.
what are your experiences with any writers you have met?

The writers always seemed to be a bit bi-polar to me. Sometimes there will be an article that seems almost loving, such as something along the lines of working good towards all, showing pictures of some good JWs shoveling their elderly non-witness neigbors sidewalk, etc, etc...Seems like after those talks we'd all be floating around the hall feeling all syrupy and saying what a nice talk that was--how loving the Org is and blah, blah, blah....Then the next week--whammo--suddenly the elderly neighbor has sprouted horns and we should not even be speaking to or in anyway associating with people who are not approved members of the Org....It was all so confusing...

Ok, Question: Was there a comment made at a meeting that finally convinced.
by New Castles inwas there a comment made at a meeting that finally convinced you, this is not right?
for me a couple of weeks ago was in the service meeting, they stated that if the children didnt finish their homework because they were studying the bible or at a meeting that teachers should understand that their meetings and study are more important.
i looked at my wife and went "what"??

Was there a comment made at a meetin g that finally convinced you, this is not right?
Well, there was a lot of things that had been building up, but the last meeting I recall was a thurs night. An elder as giving a talk on association and using the example of Dinah who got into trouble because of worldly association. He was using one of the newer books and an outline it appeared...
Anyway, the elder suddenly stated screaming like one of those TV evangelists: He said Brothers, we may reason that we know people in the world who are honorable. We might say these are good people, they don't smoke, they don't drink etc. etc. But brothers remember we should not be associating with these people. WE SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING BASKETBALL WITH THESE PEOPLE--WE SHOULD NOT EVEN BE SPEAKING WITH THESE PEOPLE, BECAUSE IF WE SPEAK TO THEM WE MAY BECOME LIKE THEM!!!
He had just said that these were good people--yet in the next sentence he said if we spoke to them we may become like them, which was not a good thing??? He went on to say that we should only be with people who are members of the Org, etc..and on and on...
There was one man who was sort of a bible study of someone in the congo--wasn't a real regular meeting attendee, but during that talk I saw him jump out of his seat and run to stand in the back of the hall with a rather horrified expression on his face. I heard he never came back again. This and many other things also occurred in the final part of my WT daze....
Also heard an unloving talk about about the "widow and orphan" I think the talk was supposed to be how to help those kids who have no "spiritual father" An elder, while not mentioning by name, pointed out a sister and her son as a burden to the congo...
PS the basketball thing also killed me too--never heard of the old basketball rule before...

I have never known anyone in the writing department, but I have written the society about the many problems that occured in my congo and in a personal situation that I had with the elders and I really wonder who in the world writes these responses.
I wrote 2 very heavy letters to the society and asked them please for their help. I recieved a brief impersonal form letter that didn't address the whole issue of the congo problem, but it did side with me, or so I thought. The elders in my congo also received a copy the same letter, but didn't like the answer. I wrote the society again with the details of how the elders were arguing the societies letter and asked them once again to please help me (even though they had told me previously that a letter from the society would be a final answer). The elders with some help from some others in the Org wrote their own letter to the society. I never received an answer to my letter which was a desperate plea, but later an elder came to me and told me the society had written them and now agreed with their thinking, but what he said to me sounded absolutely insane and the elders never gave me a copy of this letter to (as if it was secret info for their eyes only) So who in the world writes these letters? When I recieved my first letter and showed it to a couple of people they felt as if it was almost like a letter from Jehovah himself. Who are these guys? By the way, so much for new light--the first letter I recieved had quotes from old WTs in it. When the elder told me a bit of what the 2nd elder's letter from the society said he gave me a partial quote from an old WT 61, which didn't even apply to anything that made any sense. It was at this point that I totally lost faith in the all benevolent society. Very sad that some would base their life decisions on one poorly written letter from some guy they don't know at a desk somewhere in Brooklyn.
By the way, I had commited no WT sin.

LOL cyber-sista, on the 'meltdown' part. If I dare relate a 'conspiracy theory' I read around here somewhere in days gone by...
The WT is a 'big experiment' by the Illuminati who are and always have been using the WT org as a religious 'mind control experiment.'Weird, but because of some of the bizarre nonsense I have seen in the past years I have actually wondered about things of this sort. Once I came woke up out of my WT haze I realized how absolutely brainwashed I had been and really wondered to myself who was behind all of this. One of my first questions to some of the "apostates" was where did the WT learn all these powerful brainwashing tecniques? They truly do seem intensional. So many are JWs I have known are getting more and more mentally ill because the WT society seems to be getting more and more unbalanced. What really scares me is how far they will push people. Absolute obiedience to the Org is so emphasized now. To what extreme would some JWs go if given the order to do so?

On Friday, they were discussing Amos' prophecies. This got very interesting.
The speakers kept saying several times that BETHEL WAS THE CENTER OF FALSE RELIGION FOR ISRAEL! The speakers said that about 5 times during the Talks about Amos. They went on to talk about how golden calves were worshiped at BETHEL! Then, the speakers said, about 5 times, that Jehovah condemned the Israelites in Amos' time because fathers and sons were having sex with the same GIRL, and the Judges of Israel were being bribed to cover this up.So what is the modern day application of this one? I don't get this--it sounds as if they are talking about themselves and in a very unfavorable lilght. JWs are trained to look for dual meanings to things usually relating to the Org. Just like in the days of Noah...ten men holding on to the skirt of a jew....all the examples written for us aforetime as warnings. Now this one would have made me think. Even in my JW daze I would have wondered why in the world they were using this as an example to the flock? It's late and I have to go to sleep now, but this feels unreal like I am dreaming it up. Would the WT really say something of this sort without it having a modern day application? And if so, what kind of a game is this? Are the GB having a meltdown?
