Hospital Liason committe--another deception?

i posted this on the wt no blood expose topic, but thought i would start it under a separate topic, because i am curious to know what experiences others had with the so called "wt hospital liason committee.

while i was still a jw one of my close family members was bleeding and in need of a blood transfusion .

like good little jws we immediately called the elders in the hall that were in charge of the hospital blood liason committe thing hoping they could help us with the situation.

I read this article carefully and this is how these facts could have been twisted to suit the WT agenda.

Yes, it says this film took the gold camera award in the catagory of Medicine, health and current issues.

It appears that this award is based on cinematorgraphy more than the actual content of the film. This WT article here starts off quoting scientists, but it doesn't exactly say these scientists are recommending this film--I think it saying these scientists are in the film and these are quotes in the film. Sometimes awards such as these are won in categories where there are not too many entries--maybe the subject of Medicine, health and current issues are one of them. And, the WT has the funds and the means to put together a good production. The WT makes it appear as if this award was because of the content of the film, but this may not be the case at all and the scientists quoted at the beginning of the article may be in the film, but not talking about the importance of this particular film. I think it would be interesting to investigate these gold awards and find out what they are really about--maybe I will later. The above is purely my speculation, but my suspicion is this film may be nothing more than a hollywood production and not necessarily based on the actual facts of the matter. In other areas, where the hospitals don't have such programs or where their surgical staff is indifferent or even antagonistic to minimizing blood use, the HLC may not be very active. Or they may be active but not very effective.
The Society would like you to believe that the handful of very effective HLC's is the norm.

Willyloman...I think that explains the inconsistency. It was just another WT exageration of the facts. They never give the whole story, but twist it enough to build up the confidence of their followers--such as how sister so-in-so pioneered with 8 children and an unbelieving mate. The don't tell you about the kids and how they were neglected and abused by fanatical JW mother who was never at home to care for them.

It's the WT deception game and we were all taught to play the game when we were witnesses. I remember not giving the whole story when explaining my JW religion to others (we didn't want to flounder them now did we?) It was after I got baptized I found out that the true teaching of the WT was that my unbelieving mate would die at Armegeddon. I studied off and on for a couple of years and whenever the point of my husband came up and I asked what would happen to him I was told that scripture about how the unbeliever is sanctified by the believer. I was never told the straight story. I was rather disturbed when I found out the real teaching. But I hung on for several years after that. I won't make the statement that I was deceived, but I will say I allowed myself to be deceived when I continued on ignoring my own instincts and conscience.

While I was still a JW one of my close family members was bleeding and in need of a blood transfusion . Like good little JWs we immediately called the elders in the hall that were in charge of the hospital blood liason committe thing hoping they could help us with the situation. They came all dressed up in their suits, briefcases and bibles in hand, but didn't say a word when it came to anything about the alternative treatments, etc--they had no info to give us at all. At the time the WT had talked about some sort of shots that would increase red blood cells and other alternative treatments, but even at a large university hospital he was eventually transferred to these treatments were not available and we were told these treatments were not widely known or used.. Members of the hospital liason commitee in that area were suppose to meet us there at the hospital and be there during the surgery, but they never arrived (they later made up some excuse that they got their wires crossed somewhere) I never did buy that one--I mean this was a matter of life and death--you would think they could have followed up on us and made sure that all was taken care of. We were hoping that they could help us talk with the doctors and our family about all the alternative treatments that the WT had always written about.

My relative did come close to dying and his recovery was rough, though he did live. Somehow I had expected (from the way I had always read and heard about in the magazines) that the hospital liason committee and the elders were supposed to rush to the rescue of any JWs who were in need of a tranfusion and offer them aid. But this was not the case at all--nobody helped--we were on our totally on our own. It was a few years after that when I totally left the Org, but this is one of the things that got me thinking. The WT didn't at all offer the help we had expected--the whole hospital liason thing seemed like a hoax. I think this may be another component of the deception around the blood issue. The WT always made it sound as if it the hopital laison committee was there and ready to use when any JW needed it, which gave us all a false sense of security around the blood issue. I wonder if others had this same type of experience too (?)

Higher Education

hello all...just cant stay away from you...hehe .

at our recent co visit, at the elder/ms meeting where co goes over a branch approved outline with us he spent 10 min on the subheading "avoid snares of pursuing higher education"...something like that, my notes are at home but you get the gist.

he essentially spent the time bashing university education citing among other things that a full 30% that go to college dont find employment in the field that they studied in.

Many big companies do have on the job training programs, but they would rarely hire someone who didn't have a college education. It doesn't matter what field you have studied in --having the degree puts you in the top running for jobs. College educated people have more options to change careers if they wish and don't need to be stuck in one particular job.

OK, so 30% don't get a job in the field they are trained for, but how much higher a percentage of hiring opportunities do they have in general than those without a college ed? The 30% is such a dopey statement--the WT is always twisting the facts on things like this--the 30% is a highly uneducated statement.

I must say I got a bit of a chill reading your story. How cold hearted is the Org to send their reps around to harass those in need of comfort. How could anyone participate in such a thing and even believe this to be the work of God? They must be out of their minds

Just know that you are loved and there are people in this world who truly do care. Sending you love, healing vibrations, prayers, and warm fuzzy feelings.

I'm sure someone has mentioned this earlier--so many posts here. I think it would be quite scandalous if the JWs found out that their beloved Organization has been using their donations for purposes they were not designated for. And, if there were documents to prove this all the better. Hmmm... what could that be?

Did you ever see or experience prejudice in the religion?

besides the strong hatred of woman, that we know the witness religion teaches, did you ever see black bothers ignored in their attempt to reach out to be ms or elders?

did you ever see latinos treated different because of how the local community viewed them?

i know the watchtower teaches that this does not happen, but i actually experienced an event with a black brother that was a friend, that bothered me when i was in the religion.

The last meeting I attended was like this: It was a talk about keeping separate from the world and about the how we should not associate with anyone not JW approved (some talk about ancient Israelites, etc).

I wrote these words several times and even concluded them in a letter to the society, so remember them well.

It was an especially venomous talk about worldly people and at one point he said in a mighty voice "You might reason that your neighbor is a nice person-- a decent moral person who doesn't drink or smoke, but I tell you brothers you should not associate with these people! you should not play basketball with these people! You shouldn't even be speaking to these people, because if you speak with them you may start to think like them!

The basketball comment got to me, but I think it was thrown in there because word was out some of the teenagers were playing basketball with worldlings after school.

The comment, though, about the nice moral decent non-witness neighbor didn't make any sense--what could be wrong with thinking the way a nice person was thinking?

There was a bible study in the audience that night. He had attended a few meetings. I was sitting close to him and noticed looked over to see his reaction, as I was feeling very uncomfortable myself. He was turning red and starting to sweat across his brow. He suddenly bolted up out of his chair and ran to the back of the hall with a horrified expression on his face. I was pretty fed up with the JWs by then and this meeting was a good one to call my last. I still see this man around town and it doesn't look like he ever became a JW. I wonder how they ever make a convert these days...

" it instructs parents to indoctrinate their kids to refuse blood and make themselves a martyr.

As one poster mentioned earlier the thing about blood fractions. They are now a matter of conscience right? What about a child's conscience? Could a little child make a decision to use blood fractions? What about hemopure? Can a child be expected to make a complex medical decison when confronted with the trauma of life threatening situation when they are scared and in shock? this is too much. Poor little kids...

The religion is all about prejudice. We were taught to be prejudice towards anyone and anything that was not WT approved or related including our nice neighbors or kindly old Grandmother--even our own mates if they were unbelievers. In the congo those with unbelieving mates were treated as lesser ones than those without. Those who were povertly stricken or of a lower class were not invited to the homes of the elitist JWs. I attended a congo here in rural Hawaii. The community here is a larger percentage native than white, but all the elders were white. JWs are prejudice against people of different religions and even cultures (if they don't conform to the narrow minded WT culture) I think that the JW religion is about as prejudice as it gets. When my non-believing daughter married a man here who was part native the elders came down hard on all of our family. They didn't treat my son-in-law with any respect at all. I honestly believe that part of that was because he was not all white and it wouldn't been a different story if he was white. I sensed their prejudice. It was very ugly.
