Hi all you former (or still in lurkers heh heh) bethelites. My question to you is: Was your time in Bethel the turning point in your jw life? If so, what was it that started you on your way out? boa 'bethel life was my key to the real life'

I wonder (now that I freed myself to wonder - simply wonderful doncha think) what the difference a TITLE is when everyone around refers to you as CO, DO, PO, PIONEER, ELDER, MS, GB, BETHELITE etc? The title to me is applied in all but some official document, uhhhh, except oh yah, you do get a document if you're a reg. pioneer, special full-time servant (read bethelite). Even before bethel, it seems the seeds of discontent for the clergy class in the org, were sown in my discussion with our po for capitalizing 'Elder' or 'Ministerial Servant' on the bulletin board - and I don't mean when they were used at the start of a sentence or line! Of course, the wts can spin any yarn with their definition of 'clergy' to supposedly make them not fit the definition such as no salary or 'special class' but like I said above, what is the real message and understanding of the r&f? I'm becoming accustomed to straining out bs now, and seperating the wheat from the chunks. boa

Cicatrix. We were surprised as hell when we first saw the jw commercials especially cuz we're in a much smaller city centre and yet it seems quite a few in bigger cities haven't seen them yet. Definitely seem like a knock off of the Mormon ads. The jw ones sound like they're using a recording of bro Glass (I think thats his name - he's dead I believe and he used to be a teacher at gilead).Heatmiser, I'll stop derailing your post now :). boa

Did You Enjoy Simply Passing The Bread & Wine At The Memorial?
by minimus ini remember how little kids got so excited when they got to actually touch the glass and the dish!
yet, most people seemed to (respectfully) keep their heads down and try to look morbidly serious.
was the act of "passing the emblems" a thrill for you?

sure as a kid I enjoyed it and later was more bored than anything and the odd brief question would drift about my noggin that this was a ritual just like any other church, and in the last few years I appreciated that it had to be short and sweet so as to get every congregation at that hall through the spiel. I too was always very concerned about spilling the wine. I always thought that the way the bros passing the emblems all around and then sitting down and passing it to each other was REAL weird, then someone said they do this in case one of them wants to partake - uhhh, ok I guess. This will be my first time in over 30 yrs that I will not, thankfully, go to the memorial which even hardcore faders, spiritually 'weak', df's ones etc go to, so I must be a real spiritual 'loser' in their eyes, HAH, and no doubt between that and when I'm gonna soon cancel my mag order, will get attention from the kh brass. I just love the same old boring talk, with the same old false importance for the 'other sheep' to be attending. Its sick that this is now totally accepted as a legitimately Bible-santioned event in the eyes of most dubs imo. boa

People in other religions...
by boa ina thought occured to me today about a formerly held view as a jw regarding people of other religions and people who left the 'truth'.
the first view which had bothered me for many years and for some time hotly disagreed with, was the ol' bro or sis who comes back into the service car and remarks on how the householder was catholic and how they must be so stupid and blind!
the second view i actually believed before was that all people leaving the org must certainly be hopeless and lost spiritually and obviously would never go to another religion.

allo all, Approximately 3 weeks ago, a friend forwarded an email to me regarding the submission by some whacks to the UN about eliminating religion worldwide. I thought this was quite stupid but decided to do a search for the site of the group 'formulism' which of course was down, the link wouldn't work. So I searched and searched on the net for the actual article without a lotta luck. Somehow, this site came up for whatever reason, and I, having been inactive for about a year and in decline for 5 yrs, was very ripe for the picking from all you awful apostates :) uhhhh, thanks by the way heh heh Anyway, I lurked for a week, during which I picked up coc at the library and somwhere in there joined as a member. This is the first site of this nature I've ever joined, and really appreciate the environment for what it is. Excess negativity would only turn me away regardless of subject and in particular this subject (becoming exjw) is one I want to move on from, not wallow in only negativity. heh heh, minimus, great gum story - yer a hardcore rebel! I like it.
k, a few I could think of
Not preparing for advanced education - even though I was I had a full academic course load and passed with high grades in math, sciences, electronics, and computers. I graduated and promptly began to clean someones toilet for a few years while pioneering.
I had a very strict but hypocritical step-dad who forbade most music - especially rock. Later, when I was still at home, he forbade me talking to my future wife (also a reg. pio) cuz he thought we were too young according to the society's interpretation of the 'bloom of youth'.
I've never really believed or understood prohibition against birthdays and intend to celebrate this year.
As a kid, standing out in the hall during the anthem while a couple hundred saw us on the other side of the door sucked. The rule against eating hot dogs with 'animal byproducts' especially during sports day sucked, but at least our parents usually brought 'beef only' weiners for us. Feeling bad about doing the cake walk raffle during 'fun night' sucked.
The youth books prohibition against masterbation in all its evils sucked big time. Talk about an extrememly damaging guilt trip dealing with this normal desire! I guess the 2% who don't partake in this horrible sin (male statistic) at some point in their life are all other jws - thats what I figured. Jeece, my overbearing, frightening and domineering step-dad dared ask me if this was a 'problem' one day when I was around 16 and my heart nearly stopped, my liver turned to jelly, my knees knocked and somehow I got out of it without actually lying. Another time he asked whether I looked at girls behinds ever cuz doncha know that is a sin too and could lead to heavy intercourse I guess. To that question I just agreed with whatever he was saying and remembered fondly the last lassy's ass I had checked out at school (again I was around 16 yrs old).
Man I could go on and on - basically all the things the society goes 'undoubtably', 'evidently', 'perhaps', 'quite possibly meant this', 'quite likely' on, with regards to conduct suck suck suck.
