A flag is nothing more than a logo for a country.
Perhaps to some...but a canadian flag sewn onto your backpack can save your skin when traveling in some countries...
friends, i apologize if this is old information.
sometimes i can't keep up with (all) the posts here.
the thread lists this as (janurary 25, 2003) so thats why i thought it to be old.. i remember that serena williams had (won) the cup and championship, and was photographed carrying the american flag, or engaging in what (some people) considered as (idolatry),--but what was (news) to me, was the fact that she was also photographed (dishonoring) the american flag as well.

Voyager....great topic....got me thinking about this subject....beyond Serena's disrespect whether she realized it or not. I read the 'rules of the flag' as well and they make sense from a certain standpoint.
In a simplistic explanation, people come together over time for various reasons and form a country to pool resources leading to a form of security and self-preservation for that group. A flag representing the ideals and goals of that country is an important symbol that unites people to the cause including protecting freedom (in the USA, liberty) and feeding the homeless, hungry, sick, of that country and others.
Thus, Utopian Reformist is either ignorant, yanking us, or a jerk-off (insert additional choices here).
I was a dub for a long time and even I somehow knew that respect for a revered symbol would include NOT laying it on the ground nor sitting on it. Would you put your grandma's heirloom prize-winning quilt on the dirt and sit on it??? I doubt it and virtually everyone should know even a dumb dub that the flags are important and revered national symbols of pride that wars are even fought over.
Voyager, nice thread but your last post above sounds like a lot of whining ass-kissing. Utopian Reformist is allowed as much as anyone a valid, however stupid I might think it, viewpoint on a public db eh : ) If you think he 'trashed' your thread, omg, you haven't been around much....that was very tame
boa....gonna go find the canuck flag rules now....
steven wright, very low key, monotone delivery, but one of my favs.
his mind sees things differently than we do - for example:.
i woke up one morning and all of my stuff had been stolen...and replaced by exact duplicates.
I love that guys stuff!!!!
He's in the Mike Meyers movie 'So I Married An Axe Murderer' and when flying his plane, the passenger who is very concerned he even has a clue he knows how to fly and who is asking him what different gauges are points to one and says, "ok, what does THAT one do???" Wright says, 'thats the artificial horizon....<pause>.... Its even better than the real one'.
Its a dark and stormy and the passenger asks him if he's ever done this before (fly), Wright says, 'Oh ya, all the time!.... ....then in a dead tone ' I've never done it at night'....
I know there is a video out there with some him doing standup and I've been trying to find a store that rents it....
boa......to Steven Wright
this is cassidy.
he's sooo sweet.
he's getting used to his new home and his name etc.
Very cute pup!
Had a black lab ourselves many years ago...he was a real gentle ben but big!!!
Wasasister...just a note....that breed and colour of lab are called Yellow Labrador Retreivers
This is a common switch with Golden Retreivers....many people do it...no biggy
boa....married to a dog guru...
what do canadians have to be proud of!
1. smarties .
2. crispy crunch, coffee crisp .
I concur with the thought that nationalism can easily neutralize intelligence...
My post was a tongue-in-cheek response to a canuck (still, it seems) guy I've enjoyed spending time with on chat...
Perhaps the greatest p'off is the arrogant attitude he has in the 'I see it...EVERYONE should as well and AGREE with ME cuz I GOT DA STATS'....well bullox on that idea and I don't need stats to argue with said buddy....I LOVE Canada and would never want to leave due to higher wages, less taxes (read: no Medicare and lower standard of living) or any other reason from this great country....(btw, not everyone enjoys the USofA's attitude towards 'soft' drugs like pot as well as their seeming high tolerance of violence yet prudish fear of sex)
Me thinks NOdenial doth protest too much...perhaps he feels guilty about his new found love...and he can have it and I really don't care or have a problem with it...just don't expect others to see YOUR light due to some shitty stats....keeripes! The dubs have forever taught me to be wary of stats and the great distortion of reality they lend themselves to!
I concur its not personal NOdenial, which is why I still like you and there's no prob on my end between us...but for those of us still in love with our homeland...you're not gonna make friends pal....
And...
I didn't appreciate this:
Oh.... and by the way... I have the right to say what I said and have the feelings that I do - regardless of which side of the border I live on. This discussion was never about SHAMUS, boa, Uzzah, lawrence, michael or any of the other people that found it appropriate to sling insults.
when my post very clearly had multiple 'LOL' to show I was posting with fun in my heart to you.
I am proud to be canadian and can easily discount most of NOdenial's points under the idea of 'cuckoo' LOL
Seriously, there is so much I love about canada that it would take pages to list...other countries including the states have their own supporters (SHAME NOdenial SHAME LOL) and similar reasons they love their own land.
I chalk it all up to some very intense feelings you have right now buddy...no problem unless you really mean I was actually insulting you...
.
i tried "sporting clays" today and i'm hooked.... been shooting shotguns afeild for years, but trap, skeet and clays are fun games... and really improve the shooting skills.. any other "dead-eyes" in here?.
hill (if it goes "bang" i like it class)
YES!
I love hunting...shooting trap...and guns...though we prefer to call them 'firearms' in canada lol
I also love the smell of fired gunpowder.....
I just had a great day shooting a buddy's Colt .45 semi auto custom stainless as well as his custom competition Beretta 12ga with hydraulic recoil and cheek piece....good times!
Plus, a new Remington Wingmaster 12ga 3.5" mag shotgun on the trap as well!
I'm just considering a 300 WinSM vs. 7mmMag rifle right now....composite stock and stainless barrel.
boa.....

I hope I never leave this great land....
"i'll be honest about it.
it is not atheists who get stuck in my craw, but agnostics.
doubt is useful for a while.
"I'll be honest about it. It is not atheists who get stuck in my craw, but agnostics. Doubt is useful for a while. We must all pass through the garden of Gethsemane. If Christ played with doubt, so must we. If Christ spent an anguished night in prayer, if He burst out from the Cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" then surely we are also permitted doubt. But we must move on. To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation."
'But we must move on.' is an assumption. Assumptions are the basis of 'believing' something. 'To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation' Thus, doubt = immobility? And there's a problem with that? Indeed, the assumption <again> by this writer is that immobility is not a long term viable option because 'mobility' is much better. The tone of my response is a result of my current 'assumption' which is immobility lol. And damn, I'm enjoying it! boa....
and how much have you spent in your lifetime on booze?.

i'm rated as ozzy osbourne.
i was reading ecclesiastes 1 -3 today(excerpt is from chapter 2)..... and i'm not a bible scholar and dont claim any wisdom... but these scriptures seem to just say you live and you die regardless of who or what you do in life.
its all vanity...... is this the true wisdom of the bible?
that we exsist not by or for any reason.. we just exsist then we die..... end of story?
Of course it matters how we live. But unfortunately a lot of people dont care about others which is pretty much what that passage says. Someone who does nothing but good all their lives making people happy and helping people gets the exact same end as a pedophile or suicide bomber. Whats the point? This really gets to me. Surely this isnt all there is to it, there has to be something that makes all the suffering worth while.
It does matter how we live, but only because to do to others as you would have done to you makes your life happier, yet even if you do live this way, 'bad' things can happen in spades - real fair eh? Life isn't about it being fair, that is a myopic dream that armchair warriors sit back and fantasize about. The end is the same for all and its dreaming that it would be any different that leads to a real let down for people. Indeed, DO good for others, sacrifice your youth and life in the service of your fellowman but DON'T do it because you think you'll somehow get blessed or given the 'Prize'. Its saying and thinking that this 'can't be all there is to life' that leads to depression and dissappointment since there is no proof that anything else happens. Give me proof that there is something 'beyond' this life worth sacrificing time, energy, and money for, and I'll consider putting my signboard back on warning the world of impending doom. After hours I'll work in the soup kitchen too! boa....feeling a little nasty today...
