  What a great day!

  this is a very special day me and i would like to share it with you all.

  it was one year ago today, oleg and i came to the apex of our journey together.

  not knowing each other, we put our faith in god and our fantastic doctors at texas transplant institute, and went under the knife that oleg may live a better, longer life.

  Oleg had travel insurance when he came here. It covered his dialysis, though did not cover organ transplant. The Texas Transplant Institute and doctors took Oleg on as a charity case. My being the donor didn't need any insurance.

  Oleg comes from a relatively poor family. His parents are divorced. His mother being an alcoholic disappears for months at a time. His father does odd jobs and watches over a small parking garage at night. In order to drink the water from their pipes made of asbestos, they first draw the water to a small trough behind the house and let it settle for a day or two. Once the sediments have fallen, they skim the water with a pail then boil it. After it cools, they let the sediments fall again, then poor the water into plastic containers and freeze it. Oleg says something about freezing it, forces even more sediment to be forced the bottom again. They take the frozen block out and cut the ice above the sediments. Now they can drink the water.   Are you by any chance affiliated with a group known as Jesus' Christians?

  No, I am not affiliated with any religeous organization. We at times do attend Unity Church, though I can say most likely I would never join. I think it was just life experience which created this desire to others.

  Prescription Sleep Aids

  i have been talking to my doctor about my inability to sleep as of late.

  he says that some prescription pills will help.. so, what do i take?

  does anyone have any experience with sleeping pills like ambien, temazapam .

  my wife and i grew up as jw's.

  i got disfellowshiped sixteen years ago [one of the best things that ever happened to me] and my wife left at the same time.

  Thanks everyone.

  I had decided seven years prior to hearing of Oleg to donate. I wanted to help someone in a way they could not help themself, though I did not want to look for the opportunity. Oddly enough, once I found out about Oleg, even after the surgery, I never thought twice. It was almost as if I had a job to do and this was my job. No soul searching or second thoughts. Very odd if you ask me. Regarless, Oleg is doing great and so am I. I hope many more people will consider the idea of donation. I have absolutely nothing telling me I have one less kidney. My scar even is almost non-existant.

  Cheers! And a week after tomorrow, we're off to Vegas!

  valis' thread about toad in a hole got me to think of when i used to camp alot.

  we used to make the egg in hole alot because it was easy.......and you got toast and an egg in one pan, no toaster needed.

  what food and drink concoctions do you remember or were pretty nifty??.

  Hello Everyone,

  This is a very special day me and I would like to share it with you all. It was one year ago today, Oleg and I came to the apex of our journey together. Not knowing each other, we put our faith in God and our fantastic doctors at Texas Transplant Institute, and went under the knife that Oleg may live a better, longer life. I am happy to say, one year later, that we are both doing amazingly well. Oleg has become a part of our family and we speak by internet or phone almost daily.

  I am so happy to have had this opportunity, and even happier to have met such a wonderful young man so full of life.

  Approximately 58,000 people a year die waiting for an organ. Those of us who are blessed to have healthy lives can live with one kidney just as well as with two.

  hi all,i have been reading the forum avidly for about 6 months,what a great idea it is !

  !ive done the careful fade thing for a while and all is good,i have been left alone,albeit with the usual waffle from parents et al....and now ive decided to say hi to all the wonderful people on the site.......hi!!.

  i was raised in the t***h since 6 and had the hell that is school etc,the crap job etc,but for the last few years,realizing it was a joke,bettered myself (i think)and am having a blast!!.
