What's Your View on Tipping?
by minimus intypically, i give at least 20% on my total bill.
if the service or the waitress is especially charming, maybe more.. i wonder, when you sit at a bar/restaurant and have a meal and drinks and then order a take out ( i do this for my mother quite often) are you supposed to tip on everything, including the takeout??.
when i stay in a hotel, i typically leave 2 or 3 dollars per day for the maid.

wow lots of Brit generalisations on this thread !
We usually tip between 15 -20% sometimes more on a sit down meal. We always give a few extra dollers to delivery takeout. I dont usually tip for takeout that I pick up because you are not tipping for the food your tipping for the service so I don't consider it necessary then when all they are doing is handing you a bag.
Usually tip hairdresser between 15 -20% depending on how happy I am, last time I went I only tipped 10% because I wasn't at all happy with it.
Oh and I don't tip my dentist but my teeth are good and so are my kids

Is internet dating for losers?
by Newborn inafter almost a year of internet dating on various sites, i've concluded that it's not the place for me to meet the man of my dreams.
anyway, i'm happy i've given it a shot and i've gained lots of experience and even made a few male friends.
anyone here who's had better luck?.

I agree so far it doesn't seem to have much atmosphere about it, maybe it will improve over the next few weeks.
I don't remember much about the first one other than wanting to watch it but getting sent to bed instead so I can't compare!

for brit ex pats: is there anything you miss about dear old Blighty?
by highdose inits taken the better part of a year but i'm finaly having pangs of homesickness... it all started when i saw a red london bus ( they use it around here for tourist tours) .. got worse when i went to a out door ex pat event, were it suddenly poured with rain, it was amazing to see the blitz spirt come out!
the locals packed up and left but the brits started singing ( " i'm singing in the rain!
") handing out free wine and chips, almost like a party really, everyone was so happy... and you could see the locals looking at them as if to say " you british werdios!".

Good choice Newborn - I've read the first one of Stieg Larssons, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but am waiting for the paperback to come out of the next (I hate reading hardback books - I know its weird) I didn't know they had made a movie.
I'm reading Dune by Frank Herbert at the moment - pretty heavy but good.
If you want something more classical - Women in White by Wilkie Collins is really good.
