  My Story - Trying to Enjoy Life.......

  my name is mike.

  i am from houston texas, and i am 29 years of age.

  i've been reading these message boards for about a year now and i figured it was time to post my story... me: i was raised in the jw religion, and attended meetings until about age 12. i stopped attending after my grandmother passed away from cancer.

  Pet Peeves

  anyone have any pet peeves they'd like to air?

  here's one that just happened at work that is an annoyance for me: when you are speaking and the person interrupts the conversation with a corny play on words or the like.

  for example, "i had to sit on the phone on hold for about 5 minutes, waiting .

  People who go to the fridge, take the last of something and leave the empty packaging behind [>:(] (not mentioning any names here)

  I'm with you TR on people standing in the doorway or in the aisles. At our supermarket the taxi pick up point is right outside the door. So get all these stupid people just stop and block the way out while they wait to their taxi - I get very tempted to ram them out of the way with my trolley.

  over at kent's cozy discussion forum, at http://kent.steinhaug.com/forum/showthread.php3?s=576c225fa464b8a850eaf84a8f511cad&threadid=62, redhorsewoman started a thread wherein she wanted comments about an old highschool classmate (also a jw) that she recently met again.. responding to her post, i said.

  too late for your situation, but i'd treat her as i've come to treat my jw family: leave religion, the truth, jehovah (and the rest of that jw baggage) out of all conversations... unless they bring it up.

  and even then, don't expect much.

  We found the pen thief !

  i always need a pen in my hand when i'm working - i jot things down and do a lot of scribbling (i'm sure a psychologist would have a field day with my doodles).. over the last few weeks though all my pens have been disappearing.

  i blamed angharad who had borrowed them and not put them back, she thought it must be the kids who wanted to draw with them (they've discovered a great paper supply which i like to call 'the printer') but they said they hadn't.. this morning, the culprit was discovered .... i put my pen down on the desk and up popped one of the cats, picked it up in it's mouth and calmly walked off with it.

  we followed it and found a stash of them behind a kitchen cabinet along with a good selection of the kids stickle bricks.. now, i just need to teach it to bring them back!

  Stickle bricks are bricks, all different shapes and have pointy bits which make them stick together.

  Parents' scare tactics

  those horror stories that parents tell their children to keep them from doing something annoying or potentially dangerous (e.g.

  "your face will stick that way).

  This was told to me by my older sister, think I was about 5 or 6:

  If you swallow chewing gum, it will stick to your heart - I remember once swallowing some accidently, I was terrified!
