Why WTBTS Disfellowshipping Works...

i just wanted to share with you, briefly, what i have come to understand as to why disfellowshipping by the wtbts works... why it can continue being fomented as it is.

i realize there are pages and pages of studies regarding cults and cult mindsets, etc., but i am not going to inundate you with such but rather try to keep this simple.

I TRULY do NOT get this heightened sensivity! Really, I don't! I was NOT insinuating that C would even engage in such conduct - to the contrary, that's why I used HIM as the example... because I could NOT imagine it!

I don't think you were insinuating that, but I can totally understand why someone would be upset with their name being used in such a way - I know I would be! You could have made your point just a well by using Uncle Joe, Ron etc or some other random name.

All MANNER of things are said about me on this site. I take it with a grain of salt because I KNOW the folks who do it don't know me. But goodness... surely you all know I wouldn't think C a molester (OMG!)... or even seriously insinuate he was!

I know and we have been making the effort to clamp down on this as you know but we have to be fair to both sides. I don't think you think he is a monster but again I can see why he was upset and it is the type of comment that is only going to continue that bad feelings.

I would love to see this thread continue as I think it is an interesting discussion which is why I didn't want it to be derailed due to one poorly worded example.

Would Elders You Knew Have Ordered Stonings If They Could Have?

for those of you who used to be jws, or who are active, if the society was in charge of the earth, how many people do you think you would have seen stoned during your lifetimes?

i realize some elders can be zealous about their work, but if they'd actually had administrative authority to have kh members stoned to death, how many elders did you know who would have been zealous enough to really order them?.

did you know any elders who would have ordered stonings, even if the condemned people had been willing to repent?.

The thread was locked eariler as it wasn't going to go anywhere useful and was going to just cause more bad feeling - there was fault on both sides IMO

Don't be fooled, dear one: that same "stone 'em" mentally now exists right here on good ol' JWN. Never did before. But post that you can hear the voice of the Fine Shepherd (John 10:3, 4, 16, 27; Hebrews 12:25)... and then wait for the pelting. I assure you... it will come, and quickly.

Give it a rest Shelby - you seem to be going out of your way to bring things on yourself sometimes (not all the time) neither side is innocent here, but the type of comment above does not help at all - I am not going to let another thread get derailed into a "voice" debate. It is also disappointing to see what you really think of this forum, we have bent over backwards to keep things under control when there was alot of unfair bullying being thrown your way, but comments like the one above seem to imply that you want it to continue.

My Humble Opinion of This Forum

first off, i love frequenting this forum.

it has given me the opportunity to truly put jw stuff to the test and i thank everyone for their helpful responses.. however, i have noticed a couple things.. 1) the use of the word "troll" is completely childish.

this is no different than the name calling used by jws (e.g.

Pet peeves of mine - Troll labeling, why can't we give people the benefit of the doubt, if someone is a troll they will show themselves up, there is no need to start a "troll clock" based off a couple of first posts.

Also if someone comes on the forum and mentions that they are still and active JW and still believe some of the teachings - we do not need the "Have you told the elders you are posting here" type of questions, for an active person coming here and posting is a huge step and is probably very scary but it could be the start of their exit - they do not need to be told they are doing something wrong and shouted down because they may still hold onto some of the beliefs which happens occassionally.

Need advice from a female

long story short.

ive been married for 18 years to my beautiful wife.

when i was younger i had a lot of attention due to my looks which has always made me extremely uncomfortable.

Exercise classes always motivate me more - I find just going to the gym to work out on the treadmill so boring and I don't push myself but if you are in a class you tend to work harder. I recently started going to a Zumba class, it's a great cardio workout but fun and doesn't feel like the usual chore of working out.

The pitch invasion at Manchester Maine Road - they were selling off the flowers on the last day, one minute there was an orderly line the next someone ran up to the front and start grabbing all the flowers and this started a trend, it turned into absolute chaos with people just running up to the front and grabbing anything they could - by the time it was finished everyone in the stands had stopped talking and was just watching what was going on on the pitch , there were trampled flowers everywhere. Very embarrassing !
