Sex and Marriage
by nicolaou inmost religions indoctrinate a standard sexual 'morality' into their followers.
sex before marriage is wrong, gay sex is wrong, same sex marriage is wrong, masturbation is wrong.. let's not turn this into another religion bashing thread (too easy), i was wondering how much of that pre-packaged thinking you still hold to?.
i still value marriage, more than ever.

Contrary to popular belief, the concept of "sex before marriage" is not found anywhere in the bible. Under the Mosaic Law a man could lie down with any woman who wasn't already someone else's "property". Sleeping with harlots was commonplace. In the New Testament, the word fornication from the Greek "porneia" has to do with greed, lust, and adultery. Never did "porneia" have an original meaning of "sex before marriage." How could Jesus say that a man could only divorce his wife if she committed fornication if fornication meant sex before marriage? -

If you feel Catholicism brings you closer to God and helps you more closely follow the Christ, then follow what you feel is right. Only don't fall into the trap again that you've found the one true religion. What you've found is what's right for YOU. -

Don't know if this has been answered or not but are they only stopping the shipment of literature to that country or are they also no longer printing in those affected languages? -

Revised NWT...cross references...Has anyone noticed....?
by 4thgen injust let me say, i hate the gray bible.
when i read the revision of mal 3:10 and they included tithing, i almost vomited.

I'll never forget sitting at the hall during the live stream of the annual meeting when the RNWT was released. The spin was that the old version had all those pesky cross references that made the pages look too crowded so we got rid of some of them for you to make the pages look cleaner. I made an audible groan which prompted a glance from the brother sitting next to me because I knew instantly why they were really reducing the cross references. I still use the older NWT because it's a great way to show through all the cross references that much of JW doctrine is wrong and THEN show the RNWT and the lack of certain cross references to prove that it is not simply a matter of "waiting on jehovah" to bring "new light" but that there is clear scheming by men going on behind the scenes. -

EITHER or NEITHER or BOTH? FORGIVENESS vs ATONEMENT
by Terry inon (new testament scholar) bart ehrman's blog, the topic of luke's view of the purpose of jesus'.
death has been discussed.. in that discussion, ehrman points out how luke did not set forth the idea of atonement, rather luke set forth the idea of forgiveness.. on the other hand, mark and paul teach atonement.. these two points of view have been "mashed together" into a package deal, apparently, throughout history by theologians.. _________________________.

I'm currently researching Paul's usage of "gezerah shavah" in his writings. Is it possible that Paul, being a Jewish scholar in his own right, applied the scriptures regarding the Jewish messiah to Jesus purely in an effort to convert his Jewish audience to becoming followers of Jesus? In other words, is it possible that Jesus DIDN'T die for our sins but Paul used this concept to help the Jews leave off their system of sacrifices and to form a relationship with God based off of Jesus' teachings, namely love? -

Jesus The Perfect Reflection Of The Father?
by JW_Rogue inso this week's wt study was all about jesus and the miracles he performed.
according to the study this proves that god wants to heal mankind in the same way.
because as we all know jesus is a perfect reflection of his heavenly father.

Hi jw rogue,
The Father is God. Jesus is the perfect reflection of God so when we read about Jesus and his love, mercy, forgiveness, etc we are seeing the Father in reflection. The angry vengeful god of the Old Testament is only who the Isrealites perceived to be God at the time. Yahweh, the God of the Israelites, was a conglomeration of tribal gods that the Moses gave to the people to represent the "true god". Jesus came to truly reveal the Father's personality which has nothing to do with the Old Testament. To borrow a common JW phrase, it's like Jesus brought "new light" about God. He was NEVER this jealous vengeful God; he was always a loving merciful Father. Not all events in the OT were truly Gods doings. For example, it was never God who commanded the Israelites to exterminate men women and children of entire nations.
i have a lot more info on this. Hopefully I didn't confuse you more.

Jesus is the perfect reflection of the Father. The Father is NOT the god of the Old Testament. This is why you can't put new wine (Jesus' teachings) into old wine skins (the teachings of the Old Testament). And this is one of the fatal flaws of the witnesses. They continue referring to the old wine for their teachings. The Father is NOT Yahweh, the vengeful, desert god of Sinai. -

by Gigi2121 ini'm new here but not new to researching and questioning the jw beliefs.

Hi gigi2121!!!
im new here as well though I've been lurking for a couple of years. To put it shortly, Jesus is the truth. You do not have to believe in any specific religion or doctrine. Jesus said the only two commandments were to love God and love your neighbor. His true disciples would be recognized by the love they showed. This is not specific to any one religion. He is the church. The wheat and weeds are all mixed together, remember?
