Noah’s flood
by dothemath ina few years ago at one of the conventions, there was a talk on gods remarkable creation.
one of the slides showed a giant sequoia tree, approximately 5000 years old!.
later another talk was about noah etc.

You are right. There are a few ways to interpret Noah’s flood and have it make more sense.
Notwithstanding that I believe the whole religion is in error, they could easily change many doctrines and teachings that they are literally shooting themselves in the foot with to make things easier and more believable for people.
1. Shunning- not associating is one thing; shunning is a different and unnecessary level.
2. Blood doctrine - if that’s what you believe, fine. But it shouldn’t be a mandated belief for everyone punishable by disfellowship.
3. Restrictive view on higher education.
4. Not open to change or varying interpretations.
Just to name a few.

Removing Historic Monuments and Statues - Does the Term "Historical" Make it Right or Wrong?
by RubaDub inafter further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.
you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.
would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?

If you haven’t heard of attempts to have these monuments removed until now then you have not been attune to these issues. If officials had removed them DECADES ago when people really started petitioning to have them removed, then there wouldn’t be people tearing them down now. As long as I can remember, I can think of times when people wanted these things removed.Statues and monuments are symbols of honor and reverence. Now there is a difference between remembering and honoring. Should we remember all of these historical figures? Absolutely! But that’s what museums are for! Let’s put these statues and monuments and other artifacts in a museum where they belong. People can visit and see and learn all they want. But it is a different story to have a statue honoring the president of the confederacy, a rebel nation, sitting in the middle of a public park.

Nobody is erasing Gone With the Wind from history.
“The streaming service pledged to eventually bring the film back “with a discussion of its historical context” while denouncing its racial missteps, a spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday.”
All they are doing is temporarily removing the movie while they add a disclaimer discussing historical context. They are not removing permanently or even editing the movie in any way.
Let’s not over dramatize what is happening.

I hardly post on this forum because the discussions always get heated and any points made lose all credibility behind the harsh attitudes many people here have. I chose to speak on this issue because I feel personally affected by it. I spoke my peace. I tried to do it as respectfully as possible.
From this short exchange you have insinuated that I:

- am possibly trolling
- and/or lack the intelligence to take part in a productive discussion
If that’s the way you treat people who disagree with you, then that’s fine. I was willing to respectfully engage with you.
I shared my experience and my view and you wanted stats.
I provided stats and you said I was twisting the stats.
I asked you to present stats for your side of the argument.
You said it’s not about stats, it’s about experiences.
Simon, there is no trolling here. We just disagree. You don’t have to insinuate that I’m too dumb or that maybe I shouldn’t be on the forum. Not everyone with an opposite view is an enemy that you have to beat down to a pulp.
I’ve said my side. It’s on the thread for the record. I’m glad I was able to be one of the very few voices to give the other side of the coin. And people can judge either way as they see fit. That’s all.

To say that 13% commit 50% of murder is to lump me and the millions of other law abiding black citizens into your murder percentage. Do you not see the statistical fallacy?

My official government statistics are BS? Ok.
Like I said, I had a feeling I could provide statistics and it wouldn’t make a difference. All of the statistics show that crime is committed by whites and blacks pretty evenly across the board.
