  Runaway Kids

  since i am home a few days, i figured i would try to post a new question and see what happens.... were you a runaway from home, due to the jw's, or were you the parent of a runaway?

  as many know, i was.... i split in 72 when i was 15, waiting for the world to end.

  i ended up in prison, lived on the streets, and tried/sold drugs to survive till i was 18 or so.

  Since moving to Arizona, I ran into one of the kids I was warned against corrupting. She is a few years younger than me, and I was wild about her back when I was home for the short time between my runaway episodes.

  We compaired notes, and she had no idea what we went thru... the typical hush hush of family affairs in the JW's. She now understands why I did what I did. Funny tho, her family was "normal" by JW reasonings, yet they had thier own problems. Luckily, her folks didnt push them into baptism, so when they went wild (and they did), none of them were tossed aside like yesterdays garbage.

  I relayed my background, to an extent, to my own kids... so they dont make the same mistakes I did while on my own. I also told them that running away from home was the best thing I ever did. They tend to agree.

  why did you choose the nickname you did for this forum??

  also who do you think has the coolest/funniest/weirdest name on the board?

  i choose kelpie because that is my partner's nickname for me as my initials are klp.

  I have used "Animal" online since I got online... in the 80's.

  I got the nickname back in the 70's... a funny story itself.

  Thanks Joy.. you are right on the money.

  I had a short time at 17 when I was released from jail and was sent home.... moms hubby was an elder, and they took me before the elders..... and informed me that I was a "bad influence" and to keep away from the other kids in the congregation. Being the ass I was, I walked out of thier meeting. I think it was a few weeks later that I split again.

  Several of my friends from that era are dead, self inflicted.

  We always have a big xmas....

  When growing up, mom would be in the JW's one year and not the next, as far back as I can remember.... so we would have xmas and birthdays one year, and not the next.... on and on. The neighbors liked it tho... she would sell all her xmas decorations every few years, cheap, just to get rid of them. We never knew one year to the next if we would get gifts or not. Wierd, eh?

  My wife taught me how to enjoy the holidays tho.... its for the kids and they enjoy it best of all. 2 years in a row, we did a live webcast of us all opening presents, so all the reletives could login and watch.... might do it again this year.

  The Homeland Security Bill

  the patriot act and the new bill creating a department of homeland security leave out something very important.

  with these two bills the government will be allowed to create a central database that will contain information on every purchase you make with your credit cards, every medical prescription you fill, the web sites you visit (including this one), the e-mails you send, your bank deposits and anything else that leaves an electronic record except for one thing: gun purchases.

  the government is not allowed to use the fbi's records of background checks for gun purchases to find out if a suspected terrorist has bought guns.
