What Are Your Rights?
by Simon inrights seem to be everywhere nowadays.
say hello to someone in the wrong way and you've violated 101 of their human rights.
people imagine they have the right to all sorts of things - food, healthcare, housing, internet ... so many things are labelled basic rights and then you get onto their human rights - a favourite of the do-nothing bodies such as the un to declare.

"As is typical with those who scream "bigot", you fail to point to any specific example, you just make insulting comments about people having a WT mentality. Always a sure sign of a strong argument (not)."
The fact that you felt the need to start a thread about "rights" is a terrific example in and of itself. It reeks of JW bigotry. -

People aren't whining about having more rights these days. What's really happening is that A-holes are finally being held accountable for their BS, and anyone who complains is obviously one of those A-holes.

Is Being a “Manly Man” a Bad Thing?
by minimus inso much is said regarding men , in a negative way.
shaving commercials are now lecturing us as to how bad we really are.
men should be less masculine.

"I'm not sure who invented the term 'toxic masculinity' but everybody who uses it should be embarrassed by their own stupidity."
I'm embarrassed for you for thinking you have a valid point when what you really have is just further proof that toxic masculinity is self-damaging to men such as yourself.
"Being a responsible man is not synonymous with becoming more like a woman."
At no point did anyone anywhere ever say that it was. Why are you choosing to gender intangible concepts such as responsibility? Nobody ever said that men should be more like women. They've been saying that they should be less self-damning and more supportive of each other. THAT is what toxic masculinity is about: not hiding your emotions or ridiculing other men and boys for showing theirs. Telling someone to "man up" is incredibly damaging because it tells them that having feelings that are perceived as weak makes them weak and therefore worthy of contempt."Women who push this misguided doctrine on a generation of boys are hypocrites. Study after study demonstrates that women ultimately choose men with typically masculine physical and psychological traits."
None of this has anything to do with masculine TRAITS. You need to stop seeing what is clearly not there. And by the way, MOST women prefer men who ARE sensitive in certain ways, such as being openly affectionate with their children, doing something romantic for their SO, and being unafraid to be caught enjoying hobbies and entertainment that is seen as feminine. You can be both soft and rugged, you know. I know a few men like this personally. -

"Shaving commercials are now lecturing us as to how bad we really are - I look forward to Gillette putting out a commercial that tells women not to get grumpy during their periods."
In other words, basically every other commercial targeted at women over the past century? We've been surrounded by all forms of media telling us to smile and shave and diet and cook and clean and dress nice and be perky all our lives. -

"Men should be less masculine"
That's not even remotely what the message has been, unless your definition of 'masculine' is mocking other men for being emotional and taking an interest in things that are deemed 'girly' or 'gay,' scolding little boys for the same things, dismissing bullying and sexual harassment in schools with "boys will be boys," objectifying women, gendering jobs and household chores as either men's or women's work, etc.The message has simply been to stop doing those things.

Yet another example why you can't reason with a JW
by nowwhat? inso i mentioned to my pimi brother that the org.
only grew by 1.4 % 2 years in row and if you factor in the birthrate of 1.1 % that's only 3/10 of 1% growth for all that hard work.
i thought people would be streaming to the mountain of jehovah in the last days?

I thought eight people were aboard the ark? There was Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and each of their wives, totaling eight people. Who is your brother leaving out?

Christmas arrogance
by stillin inone of the witness rebuttals that is used to belittle the christmas holiday is the one where they say that people reduce jesus christ to being just a baby in a manger, whereas the witnesses recognize him as a mighty king, a much more accurate and current way to view jesus.
a baby in a manger is a sweet sight on any day, it's true, but more is going on than meets the eye in the case of jesus.
this particular baby is the first baby to have been born without an earthly father, the immaculate conception.
-

Actually, the immaculate conception refers to Mary's own conception, in that she was the only human born after Adam and Eve who did not inherit original sin.

Baby it’s cold outside...Is That Song Offensive To Ypu?
by minimus into think that this classic song is “offensive “.... is absolutely ridiculous!.

"To think that this classic song is “offensive “.... is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!"
Think about what you're implying here. It sounds like your only defense for the song is that it's a classic. If a very similar song were written today, would you defend it just as fiercely? Nostalgia can create bias. Why do you think it took so long for the infamous Censored Eleven cartoons to be banned from syndication? People argued that they were classics, that's why. You are being biased toward a song for no other reason than that it has been around for a long time and you have fond memories of it. I am sure that there are other equally "classic" songs, books, films, etc. that you do not like at all and probably wish you could erase them from history. Again, that is bias. -

Smallfoot Movie and Jehovah's Witnesses (or almost any religion)
by AnonVet ini just watched the movie smallfoot not long ago.. i wasn't expecting much, but almost from the start i felt a strong connection to religion, especially jehovah's witnesses.. the premise was about protecting lies for the benefit of the village.
hiding the truth for their own good.. one line in a song stuck me:.
"protect the lie and you protect the village".

Smallfoot was a pretty good film, and I walked away from it with all the same thoughts in mind that I'm reading here today. Glad to see someone else saw what I saw in it.
The conflicting ideas of "all we are is curious, there's nothing wrong with that," and "the only thing stronger than fear is curiosity" were interesting bullet points to address.
The two best songs in the film, with the strongest messages:
