Even though I have been disassociated for about 18 years, and I knew I made the right decision, every once in a while little nagging doubts would come up as to "what if Armaggedon really did come, what if they were right after all". Finding this board made me aware of the total hypocrisy of the organization and the brainwashing and wasted lives. Case in point,,, U.N. involvement as one of many...... With all the research and time so many posters put into keeping others informed of the false teachings of the society, I really know I made the right decision in escaping...... Not to mention,, so many funny and at times heartwarming postings that are so enjoyable, informative and/or thought provoking...Thanks to everyone who posts here , whether they are debating , arguing or encouraging,,,,, Its always great to meet here.

An End To Shunning
by Sunspot inwell, in my case anyway.
for those of you that may recall my posts about my family and that after i left the wts, how i wrote long (and painful) letters to my nonjw children among others.
i had tried to explain why i had shunned them and how very sorry i was, and for all the mistakes i had made throughout their childhoods as a jw mother.

Sunspot, Mending the scars that we carry from our lives as Dubs sometimes takes a while, but how wonderful when they finally are!! So happy for you and your son and now you can build more happy memories in your new life , free to be a loving family....

witnoid weddings
by katiekitten inwhen i was a kid weddings in the troof were a big deal.
probably because they were the main if not only excuse for a knees up.
if someone was getting married they were not in control of the decisions about the reception.

We had the typical "everyone in the congregation" is invited wedding. We had wanted just a small garden weddding , no fuss, but when the sisters heard about that, they insisted on a big wedding, They hadn't had a big wedding in a long time and its the only time it seems you can actually drink , dance and just enjoy yourself. The sisters all brought dishes, my mom cooked turkeys and baked desserts and they all cleaned up afterward... Well it was their decision..lol.. It turned out to be a lot of fun actually,, everyone actually talked about it for months after,,,,,,, sad isn't it.. how little fun they have in their lives that a wedding is such a big deal....... I also had the "personal" showers where where the sisters all loved trying to outshook each other with the lingerie they bought for me........One shocking outcome from our wedding... one sister who wasn't getting any action from her Dub hubby ended up going home and getting some from a single brother in the congregation..Guess they had a bit to drink and one thing lead to another................ turns out...her husband was actually gay and so wasn't interested in her sexually.... their marriage ended pretty quick after all that...

Letting thier actions give a thorough witness (a co-workers thoughts)....
by riotgirlpeeps inlate last week i got a chance to give a good "anti-witness".
there is a co-worker of mine who was raised around the org but never became one.
she recently has studied off and on.. she knows a little about my situation, ie divorce finalized in the beginning of the year, actual process started last june.

It was the opposite with an elder who worked with my husband. No one at work knew he was a witness, He never even admitted to having any religious beliefs at all. Even though my husband was disassociated, he never asked him why or tried to convince my husband to come back. When this elder retired a few years back, he and his other coworkers rented a room in the Skydome downtown Toronto and had a big bash... porn movies and all... He even invited his son,, who by the way was no longer a witness after having a lengthy affair with an elder's wife..........I think it was a case of this elder having all his family as Dubs... mother, brothers, sisters and he played the game of being good elder and Dub when needed and at work enjoyed just being regular "worldly" guy...

Would you go to a funeral at the Kingdom Hall?
by Dustin inso my brother and i have been having talks about what will happen when our dad passes away eventually.
most of his brothers and sisters have died in their 50's or early 60's.
i flat out refuse to attend any part of the service that would be done at the kingdom hall.

My husband and I went the Kingdom Hall for his father's funeral. I was worried about how we would be treated, An old couple I had known since I was little, came to tallk to us. They were very sweet and asked us to come visit them. Most others were friendly ,,but seem to look at us like horns would grow out of our heads at any moment..... The funeral talk was very annoying.. having to listen to the hope for the resurrection...blah..blah..blah..... but I enjoyed going back in the fact that they could see we were still a very happy normal family,,, 3 kids and all.... and our lives were going on just fine without the help of the society ..thank you very much...I just tried to view it as an outsider... not think about the bad crap that made we want to leave....We figured it was the last thing we ever had to do for his Dad as regards the witnesses...It was difficult,,, sometimes nauseating... but we did it for his parents...

As for the GB member, I'd hang him from a tree and beat him like a pinata. Hey, the WT allows that now, don't they?
Well,,, I have to admit I like that idea Nos.....LOL

Well.. JDubs always say that Jehovah takes care of them and rescues them from all sorts of dire situations, so I guess if he just lay there someone would come rescue us.... I think Dubs give off some kind of secret rescue beakon of some sort.

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

Mother started studying when I was 5,,, we didn't get seriously into it until I was about 11 as my father was very opposed. In my 20's I started to have doubts when I had my first child,, I knew I didn't want to bring up my kids in this cult...That's when my husband and I left... He had also been raised as a Dub since birth...

Thoughts please..
by WILKO inthis is something that i would like thoughts on, well two things really.
i was disfellowedship about ten years ago, so witnesses reading this will say am bitter, apostate, whatever they like, couldnt careless really, am just an ordinary gal married expecting her first baby working etc... but is it or is it not unchristian to be ignorant?.
thats what some witnesses do to those disfellowshipped.

No.. it is not Christian the way JWS treat disfellowshipped people. They say the act in "Christlike" manner... but that is their own twisted view of Christians. Jesus did not shun or push away anyone. JWs are taught to think they are better than "worldly" people. Their religion is the only "true" religion...... There is nothing Christian or Christlike about them.... It is just another cultlike way the governing body came up with to keep the masses following.. if they are always afraid of the world and the "worldly people"... they will not stray........... I think Dubs check out apostate sites mostly because they are told it is wrong and evil and human nature being what it is........... they are curious and check it out.. then they feel guiltly and feel the need to try and bring us back into their cultlike life...... well ...that's my thoughts anyways.......
