hi, i just got registered and am looking forward to getting to know others who have escaped from the controlled environment that i was so faithful to for so long.
i hope to meet others with similar backgrounds.
i've been out about 4yrs and love the feel of it, but to be honest, as much as a definiate decision it was on my part, there was still a long time of adjustment.
Hi Butterfliorchids. Welcome.

i thought i would let you know that my dad, passed away a little while ago, tonight, january 23. they called me at 6pm to tell me.
he had been failing rapidly for the past month, and had completely lost his hearing and was totally blind.
the dementia was extreme too, and he still knew me on thursday, but didn't wake up to know me in the following days.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. ((((Mulan))))

when i was at bethel in the 70's the president of the watchtower society nathan knorr was really unpopular among a lot of bethelites because he supported the four year oblligation for bethelites to stay at bethel and stay single for four years.
i had heard that over nintey percent of the people who left bethel fell away from the jw religion afterwards, i was among that number, and i had heard that the majority of people who came to bethel did not keep there four year commitment but left in less than a year, i know the majority of people i started with lasted about a year at bethel, i was dumb enough to stay at bethel three and one half years.
i guess it was because i was raised in the witnesses and didn't know what to do after i lost my faith in that religion while i was there.
A very appropriate name then. Thanks for answering.

(a) since god will soon destroy this system of things, what question do we need to ask about our worship?
They replaced it with "You Can Live Forever In Paradise On Earth". They've replaced that book a few times already, so I hear. We've been out awhile too.

there have been much research lately into the biographies of ct russell and "judge" rutherford, the first and second presidents of the watchtower bible and tract society, but not so much research into the biography of the third president of the wbts, nathan homer knorr.. as there are many people still living, and who also post here at jwd, who knew nathan knorr personally, it might be worthwhile to start a thread about the life and personality of knorr.. so if anyone has any knorr stories, please post them here.
i will start off by posting some basic biographical information.. --vm44.
nathan homer knorr.
Well, I don't personally have any stories. I've heard a couple though. I can't remember the details, just the overall.
The day before a D.C. was to start, the brothers were having trouble getting the sound system to work. They struggled with it all day and still didn't have it working by evening. Knorr in all his loving kindness said, "I don't care if you have to work all night. Have it working by morning." He then went off to have a good night's sleep. The brother who related this to me (he was there) seemed to be favourably impressed by the authoritarian manner. What I remember most about this story is that it made me cringe inside.

this is actually something that fascinates me and i'd like your own opinions on the subject.
i list here things i feel are quintessentially english (with apologies to the scots, welsh and irish as they have their own uniqueness).. first of all, it's got to be a cup of tea (yes, i know it wasn't originally made here, but it has become an integral part of 'englishness').. cup of tea.

We would love to go see Biltmore.
On a side note, has anyone watched the Judy Collins Christmas concert that was held there?
