hey i've been studying jehovah's witness beliefs but i had a question, how does anyone know who the 144,000 are?
if you could respond with what you know that would be great.
thank you.
Welcome to the board, JCinme.
How do they know they're one of the 144,000? That's the eternal question. It's been asked here on the board repeatedly. The closest answer you'll get is: they just know!

anybody here on the board make their own wine?
we just put together our first batch.
crabapple wine.
Anybody here on the board make their own wine? We just put together our first batch. Crabapple wine. We don't expect to replace the wines that we buy. We just hope to supplement them. We have alot of fruiting trees and bushes and think this is a good way to use up the extra produce. There is, after all, only so many pies and jams that you can eat in a year.
And, yes, I do know that to properly be called "wine" it has to be fermented from grapes.

We relied on it when we were first fading. Nobody knew we had it though. We don't use it anymore.

i will begin by stating that i have been an inactive jw for about four years now and i currently have no plans on returning to the organization at this juncture.
i have read many of your experiences with the jw's and wts and i can certainly understand the rage, hatred, depression, anxiety, and sense of hoplessness as a result of your association with the jw's.
personally, i have had simliar experiences with the jw's such as an elder constantly chastising me for every "bad" thing i did by always informing me that " if i continued on the course i was on i would be destroyed at armeggedon.
Welcome to the board. And, good luck with your studies.

eventually i'm going to be fading out of the orgo.
but while i was choosing what i was going to do, the thought of becoming a career witness came up.. .
i've been working as assistant account servant and the ministerial servant above me is a career witness.
I've met plenty of "Career" witnesses. Very unpleasant people in my opinion.
The one that comes immediately to mind was an elder. Just before the donation arrangement for literature came in, he gave a part in the SM berating anyone who gave the literature away for free. He was assigned to give the talk announcing that the literature was to be given free and a donation asked for. He gave that talk just as enthusiastically. If the WTS told him that black was white, he would agree.

here is some news from a source within one of the wts branches:
hot news from todays morning worship announcement worldwide -- letter from gb being read on 1st of march 2006 to every branch (hopefully we will have a copy of the letter soon.).
as of aug. 31, 2006 the bethel elder arrangement will be dissolved!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're still going to be in Bethel. (Aren't they?) Just minus the title. It sounds like a power restructure to me.
I would still like to know why they're announcing this so far in advance. What I remember from reading WTS histories is that everybody would hear about this sort of thing the morning it went into effect.
