  Do born-agains dominate EX-JW's?

  do a quick look on the web and you will find most ex-jw or anti-jw sites are made by so called born again christians.

  i remember from being a witness that the general view of apostaes was that they had become born again christians.this was probably because so many actually do.

  is this having a negative effect or reducing the chances of witness reading information that may help them?

  I'm not going to be pedantic, but the way you've phrased this, you are drawing a conclusion that may or may not be so, and doing so with "proof" from what you've seen on websites. Again, it doesn't necessarily support the conclusion you're drawing, for the reasons I said in my last post. However:
  
  I agree that perception can be different from reality. (Isn't that what life as a JW is all about?!?) So based on that it could very well seem that ex-JWs become born again and then feel the need to continue "witnessing." Again, my point is still valid...you're only going to hear from those who are passionate about their subject and you don't have any way of knowing the situation of those who aren't talking.
  
  So your subject question "Do born-agains dominate ex-JW's?" is perception and can only be answered by perception, not fact, unless you actually research it (and using statistical analysis, not by looking at a few webpages). Otherwise you're just speculating just the JWs do when they say that "most ex-JWs become apostate born-again Christians." Right?
  
  Personally, my perception of *this board* is that it's a fairly well-rounded bunch...I see Christians or those who've retained some spiritual faith in a deity or system of worship, some agnostics, and some athiests. I would have to say that what the JWs believe about ex-JWs isn't correct. My opinion.

  Making a correlation about ex-JW websites and born-again "content" and then using it to theorize that a lot of ex-JWs become born-again is a little skewed in logic. You'd have to look at all religious sites, how many of them are "born-again" from your definition, and then determine how many of those are ex-JWs. You'd also have to look at all ex-JWs, find out if they have a religious belief now, whether they have published it on a website, etc.
  
  All it means is that those ex-JWs who 1) have something to say, and 2) have the web-savvy to publish it on the www, are doing so. People that have something to say and go to the trouble of making up the site, buying the domain, etc., are going to be passionate about their subject. So the majority of the sites you see up are religious in nature, or warning against child abuse, the "big" subjects. There's not too many ex-JWs who feel a burning desire to pronounce to the world that "I left JWs and now I'm just living my life quietly and happily. The end." ;) And if there are some, you'd better believe that they're probably not focusing on the ex-JW part for the most part.
  
  Personally, I'm in the process of learning how to get my designed site on the web...it's on writing. There's enough ex-JW info out there for those who need it, and more than enough people willing to expound on their views, write dissertations refuting the logic, etc.
  
  It's an interesting thought, though. I just don't know if the web is a good place to gather your data. I don't think it's without sufficient bias to be of value.
  
  Of course, that's just my opinion.

  Heck, we heard St. Helens in 1980 way up here in Vancouver BC!

  Fiancé lives VERY close to that mountain and is driving up to visit me now (going through Seattle at last call)...and he got a call from his catsitter that it (the mountain, not the cats) "burped" and it's over. So good news for him, he was a little worried about being away and the possibility of problems at home.

  So I'm glad for everyone involved.

  (What kind of place am I moving to? Here I only had to worry about earthquakes! hehe)

  No Trespassing!! Breaking news for local JW's.

  this week at the book study, at all congregations in the u.s., a letter was read saying if you go to a house or property with a "no trespassing" sign, you must not enter, or knock on the door.

  you have to leave immediately.

  a sign saying "no solicitors" is too ambiguous, and they are to use their own judgment, and don't have to knock.

  It intrigues me that the WTS should be running scared of those type of suits - anyone know of any cases?

  While not a "no tresspassing" suit, this reminded me of situations that occurred here in Canada that had nationwide implications. Two small towns in Québec passed bylaws outlawing JWs ability to preach from door to door. (My memory is somewhat hazy here...I don't know if it was a complete ban or a time ban, ie nothing before noon.) I believe the US had some similar events occurring in a town or two in Ohio around the same time.

  While the lawsuits were pending, the congregations throughout Canada were instructed to make the morning service arrangements later in the morning. Ours went from 9:15 to 10:00. The rank and file were encouraged to adjust their end time accordingly; instead of 9:30-11, 15 minutes for coffee...hah!...then out till noon, it was suggested we stay out until 1. That didn't happen, and to this day there is still a late start, long coffee and ending at noon.

  Albeit, it was in our best interests to keep our noses clean, lest other cities do the same, so not exactly the same scenario as the one described here. However, it is interesting to see response reaction to civil situations...

  Why aren't you guys working?

  as a stay-at-home mom, i can occasionally find a few minutes every few days to play on the computer, but the amount of activity on this forum during us working hours is pretty surprising.

  folks from other parts of the world notwithstanding, how are you american members able to post during work hours?.

  My job is slow enough that I can post on this and another forum, work on my university courses and complete some of my home business writing work. I've asked at least 20 people from other departments to give me overflow/something to do work and collectively I can get about 5 hours total a week of actual work.

  It sucks, but it's a steady paycheque at least until November. *shrug*

  does anyone find this statement a little strange?

  even if they had their first kid right after being wed, he/she would still only be 11. and they are all baptized... there is a picture of the family... there are no triplets in the picture, and they are all young... so the sentence means how it reads.

  Is it a second marriage for either and the kids a result of the first one? Maybe they're older.
  
  The article may not even say but 2nd marriages where I am, among JWs, is pretty high.

  How did you deal with your Bible Studies when you learnt the WT secrets?

  i don't know if this question has been posted before, but for those of you who learnt the truth about the organization, how did you deal with any bible studies you had at the time?.

  did you come straight out and say, "excuse me, but everything i have been teaching you is a load of crap"?.

  did you terminate the bible study?.

  I only had one study who I suspect was in it more for the friendship. She studied under my sister (pioneer) and then when sis moved, me. It was going on 8 years and she didn't progress much more than to the Memorial every 2nd year or so.

  When I wrote my DA letter, my friend who still talks to me let me know that they'd take care of her, getting her sorted out with someone in the congregation that spoke her language to study with her. I let them do that, knowing that that was the one thing she didn't want. Of course, when I left I still believed in all of it, so I figured that she wouldn't progress much either way, so it didn't matter.

  This is probably still my only regret; that I haven't contacted her since to explain how it REALLY is. I don't think she's really into it, but I feel bad from the friendship point of view. I've considered showing up where she works, just to keep it on neutral ground. I still might, just have to find the time.

  problems with jw daughter-in-law

  i haven't been here in awhile and i'd like to say hi once again.. i have written what i am about to tell once posted it and it disappeared,must have hit the wrong button.so here i go again.

  over a period of time my grandson who is 15 has been making regular contact to my youngest son (who is his uncle)they talk about what teens talk about,football and music,cal my grandson has also been allowed to stay over once in a while,which i might add surprised me a little,you know staying with his worldly gran, his mum is a jw and my eldest son cals dad is almost one you could say.. anyway since cal has been staying over at our house he has opened up about a lot of things none that were instigated by me i must add.he said he dosen't want to be a jw he hates it and his mum and dad have been hitting him quite hard.i believe him because his mum has always been heavy handed since he was a young baby,i did threaten her once after i heard she had knocked cal to the floor hitting him when he was about 3yrs because he said ' oh god ' has kids do sometimes,my young daughter was there at the time and she told me.

  not long after that they left the village,after sometime normality resumed with our family and we got back on speaking terms.. cal has always been rebellious and i know his mum has always hit him and now he is 15 he is questioning more and fighting back so i quess he is in more trouble.then about a month ago my young son had a distressing phone call from cal he was sobbing and asking if he could come and stay he had some clothes packed so i spoke with cal and asked if he had been hit again and he said yes very hardbecause he forgot to say a prayer before the meal and his mum lashed out at him.

  i had to have my 7 year old persian puddy.

  kashmir, put down on sunday.. poor thing was crying all the time and would hardly move, so i took him to the emergency vet.

  he had a huge tumour blocking his intestines.
