Hmmm... sometimes the rewards in this life are soo temporary... if only there was a way we could put them into a savings bank of sorts.... You know... like storing up your treasures...

Love and be loved...

Trust me... I never go soft on a chick, if ya know what I mean... <nudge nudge> But yes, it's not all wuvvy duvvy romantic... truly a gift... what to do with it though? ("You received free, give free")
Nos:
You do make a good point... what really is love? The only way to know... is to experience giving and receiving... hehe
Biz:
Yup, life can be wounding... in fact, I hear that it is terminal... and isn't it just great to absolutely know that you are really loved... and you are, you beautiful little frenchy

I'm glad you have also found the joys of love. And sometimes, yes, it is the small things that really count...
Talesin:
I understand what you mean, and to be honest, I did verge on not using scriptures at all, but I decided to use them as an example. I tried to make it clear that belief system is optional... I really did!
Orangefatcat:
Awww... a warm and fuzzy little orange fat cat... dontcha just love it... hehe
Danny:
It's all good mate. You are loved in more ways than you know.

After that cookie, everything went weird... I was in bed, and it was dark... then all of a sudden there was this bright light, and a tall man silhouetted wearing a bright white robe. And he said unto me... "Hey man, these hotel robes are pretty nice ain't they... now where did we put that bottle of Tequila?" It was almost a religious experience. But then Gumby turned the bathroom light out and went to bed.
Seriously though mate... thanks. Though I also have to disagree on something... im no smart... i jus luvs u
Danny again (lol):
I'll be honest with you, I still don't quite get the reason that Jesus had to die as he did. But, what I see, is that whether he had to or not, he did that death (IMHO)... and that is good enough for me
Puter:
You have just wrote in two sentences what it took me a whole page to write... lol, I guess I just like the sound of my own keyboard... thanks though mate, what you say is so true...
Danny.. yes... again:
Yep, you are getting it... altruism is everything... the key is to check your ego at the door, get a healthy dose of altruism administered, then eat a humble pie every day.... you'll soon feel the love
Allgrowedup:
It's an honest question, you're no party pooper... You see, the kind of love we need to express on a daily basis is not the kind of love that we "fall in love" with. It is just a general love... just like you love a friend, or even a sibling. It's not a passionate love (trust me, having that kinda love for everyone gets you in all sorts of trouble lol)... As far as the "payback" goes... the answer may not be immediately visible....................

D'oh, thats me... these long posts with multiple people get me so confused...

But you miss the point! The point is love. Regardless of if you believe the Bible to be true, if you find the portrayal of God to be offensive, or if you think that any time love is mentioned in relation to spirituality that it is a trap.... Why not love anyway? It takes very little, but comes back to you in spades......

"One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love." Sophocles (496 BC - 406 BC)
Love is as old and timeless as life itself. Even before humans were created, animals showed forms of love to one another; mating for life, a mother's love for her baby, the loving bond a family shares.
Love literally makes the world go around. The Creator (whoever you believe Him to be) lovingly created our solar system in such a way that allows us to experience the amazing rhythmicity of our lives. Day to energize us and give us light to live by, night to relax us and let us sleep by. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, all beautiful and necessary in their own ways.
All of these examples of love, do they not make you feel... well... loved? And when you really feel loved, does is not make you feel like you are on top of the world? You see, this is a basic need of humankind: to be loved. Without it, we would perish. Even if it is only a love of oneself, it is still required, as it gives us a reason to live. And how much better it feels to have someone else love us! Whether that be a husband, wife, child, friend, even God himself, we crave the feeling of being loved by someone.
"Life's greatest happiness is to be convinced we are loved."
Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885)
There are many forms of love; not only passionate and burning love, but also quiet love, friendly love, the kind of love that some people exude. Yes, you know who they are... those people that selflessly give of themselves, always there to give a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. It is often said that it is people like this that make the world a better place, how true!
So, just imagine a world in which everyone simply loved... would you agree that the world would be an amazing place to live? One could almost go so far as to say that such a world would be just as the Creator intended. And even if there is no Creator to have intended such, I am sure we all want a better world for ourselves. It seems, though, that over a period of time, humanity as a whole has forgotten how to fully love... but wait! A certain book springs to mind that teaches us how to love in this day and age.
When I started reading the Bible (specifically the New Testament) with an open mind, something struck me about the character known as Jesus... he was, quite simply, the personification of love. Everything he did was totally selfless, right down to the end when he offered up his life for us.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16 (NIV)
In life, Jesus preached only love... he did not preach religion, nor hellfire, nor anything else, only love. In fact, the only two laws we are given in the New Testament are to love God wholly, and love everyone else as you love yourself. Two simple rules that would change the world completely.
All that we know about the Bible (for an absolute fact) is that it was written. We do not know any of the "who, what, where, why, when"s of it for a certainty. But in all actuality, do we really need to know these things?
"You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you'll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me!"
John 5:39 (NIV)
There are people that study the Bible all their lives, and yet do not quite realize the point. They get caught up in finding out whether Genesis really was written by Moses, and why this scripture says one thing and another says something different, the list goes on. But here we see it in all it's plain glory... The scriptures are all about Jesus, and Jesus is love!
Let's not all get caught up in facts, figures, dates, people, or places. Regardless of our belief system, we can all agree on one thing...
"To live is human. To love is divine."

Starting today... go ahead and love. Do not hold back, do not think twice. Give everything of yourself to others. Feel the love, let it shine throughout your life. In doing so, no matter what you believe, you will have made at least one person smile, and that smile will make the world a better place to live.
I love you all. May God bless every single one of you in his eternal love.

for skeptics, true believers and people like me.
i have heard or read, on this forum and in other mediums, of people who claim to have had experiences that can only be described as "ecstatic, mystical, spiritual, supernatural" etc.
they all claim that the experience was real, in fact, more real than reality itself.
Extremely interesting thread Bradley... the question almost nullifies the conversation we had in Dallas... hehe
One of those unanswerable questions that sometimes goes through my mind is... The taste of celery makes me want to vomit, yet other people really love it... How can they possibly love that taste? Could it be possible that to them it tastes completely different? (Again, unanswerable, so please no-one even try!)
My point in this is that in one way or another, we all experience things quite differently. In the example you gave of the priest, the hand on his back and the voice may simply have been the best way for him to come to a realization of the facts. In exactly the same position, others may have just had a "feeling", even a vision. When the facts from differing experiences clash, (i.e. hellfire / no hellfire) about the only thing we can do is to ask for the answer... and quite possibly we may have an experience not much different from the priest .
But... what am I saying? This is all fluff... lol. Knowing whether there is a literal hellfire or not really isn't the point of such experiences. Sure, as Ross says, one of the common denominators is love, but have you noticed another one that results from said love? All the people who have these experiences generally want to shout them from the rooftops! It gets people talking about spiritual things, Jesus, and (yes) love. In the grand scheme of things, that's what it is all about.

over the last couple of years i've been trying to experience activities and interests that would have been frowned upon when i was still a dub.one of the things that i've really developed a passion for is metal and hard rock, in particular metal really strikes a chord with me (pun intended).
i'm pretty much a big fan of almost anything metallica has done, i also dig a lot of the more recent groups like tool, a perfect cricle, sevendust, etc.. but there's still a lot of old school metal groups that i want to go back and listen to.
any suggestions on any good late 70's-80's metal bands?
Well, of the genre you are looking for, my faves are:
Thin Lizzy <<< AWESOME
Sound Garden
Megadeth
Ozzy / Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Some good stuff for you to listen to to ease yourself into something a little heavier is Forest of Shadows. They are quite heavy, certainly not satanic. I refuse to listen to any song with satanic lyrics (glorifying the devil etc.), but I listen to some of the heaviest stuff out there. It's all in the lyrics, my friend.

if you keep picking your nose, your nostrils will get as big as a horse's!.
we can use your face for a halloween mask if it freezes suddenly with that expression on it.. how would you feel if your sister died after you said such awful things to her?
(this following a normal, sibling scuffle).
None of those really are deterrents if you look at this way... the warts would give a lovely sensation, and you wouldn't care how tall you were when you couldn't see anyway!!!!
LMAO.... this is possibly the funniest thing I've seen yet on JWD. Did I mention it's good to have you here?
