putin pressed over jehovah's witnessescombined reports .
a leading human rights organization has appealed to president vladimir putin over a court's decision to ban the activities of jehovah's witnesses in moscow, calling it a serious failure of the judicial system that could increase harassment of believers, mosnews.com reported.. the international helsinki federation for human rights urged putin in an open letter to meet his "international obligations" and set the record straight by addressing the issue publicly.. the ban came into force on june 16, when the moscow city court upheld a district court decision prohibiting jehovah's witnesses from engaging in religious activity under a provision that allows courts to ban religious groups that are considered to incite hatred or intolerant behavior.
jehovah's witnesses spokesman christian presber said at the time that the ruling would prevent the group from renting premises for worship, holding bank accounts, or otherwise supporting their religious activities.. there are about 10,000 jehovah's witnesses in moscow and 133,000 nationwide, according to the group.

roflmao Confused... you rock mate, never cease to get me chuckling.
Lehaa, the plane is currently grounded after one or two botched hand launches by my kid (not his fault though, just very hard to get it actually in the air). I just need to epoxy the throttle servo back in place, and I'll be taking it out again today... lol, it must be hilarious seeing me cringe every time it is airborne.
Fe203Girl... I will try anything once. Might even try it twice if the first time bordered on pleasure / pain.
Special K, I just found it hilarious that some guy was just sat there one day, stood up, walked up to his pregnant wife, kissed her, and said "Hey babe, where's the shovel? I'm gonna go dig a hole"... But I agree, very interesting. I have enough room in our back yard I could build / dig (?) a hole. I'm serious, I want one! lol, the kids would get a kick out of it. (Or kicked out of it, when I put my "No kids allowed" sign up)

it occurred to me yesterday that, for the most part, the jw dream of paradise could be created by us lowly humans.
sure, the animal kingdom would still have predators and prey, we would not be immortal, and the weather would still have a mind of its own.
however, most of the conditions you see pictured in jw literature could be created by us humans.
Man if I just had a little control I could do so much.
OS mate... you apparently don't realize just how much power you have. Ever heard the expression "He doesn't know his own strength"?

New Light... what a beautiful post!
This goes along with what I have posted a few threads about recently... and that is the concept of "love". All of the things you list (selfishness, pollution, war, etc) are all very much the result of us disconnecting from our love of everything, including each other, ourselves, and the very Divine itself.
If we all made a concerted effort to love unconditionally, then this world would be a much better place, regardless of creed, nationality, race or religion. Admittedly, that is a somewhat unrealistic state of affairs right now (with no intervention), but that does not mean we can't do our own bit.
This is all possible through "connection"... loving the Divine so intensely that it becomes part of you, and you become part of it. In doing so, you will learn to love and respect the very ground you walk on, and the strangers you meet.

there's gotta be some blues fans out there.. i have been listening to a recording of a live show back in '68 with b.b.
king, jimi hendrix and probably other greats i don't know about and i'm finding i really enjoy it.
any blues buffs out there want to make some suggestions etc.?
I love the blues... unfortunately I never (dunno why) bought any blues CDs or even know any distinct blues players (apart from the King, obviously). My first stop of any night on the town has to be a blues bar though.

yea, i know this subject has been batted around time and time again.
but i've always been bothered by the extreme difference in nature between yhwh of the old testament and "the father" of the new testament.. i was thinking about this last night and had an epiphany.
what if it is two viewpoints of the same god.
Interesting, and in my opinion, quite close to the facts.
You see, we cannot take the Bible as a whole to be accurate unfortunately. There are many inaccuracies and even some non-truths in there. This is because of how the books of the Bible have been passed down, and filtered through various people / governments / attitudes over thousands of years (read the book "Who Wrote the Bible"). The Bible has been edited and revised by so many that it has now become very difficult to tell what is true and what is not. That's why I tend to look at it on a book-by-book basis, and even then - carefully.
Yes, there are many different points of view of Jehovah. We can quite clearly see distinct differences in the way he is portrayed throughout the Bible, just the same as if you read the gospels in the NT, you will see Jesus change ever so slightly depending on the author.
But, between all of this... between the argument that YHWH is pronounced Yahweh or Jehovah... and between whether the OT shows a different deity than the NT... etc... there is one thing that we cannot forget. We must form our own opinion of Him personally, and the only way to do so is to start a relationship with Him. Regardless of everything... there is one scripture that would be a good place to start in your getting to know Him (and once you realize the true meaning, it will also be the end of your path to connection to Him), and that scripture says "God is love". That's it! When you truly understand that, IMHO, you will realize that nothing else in the Bible really matters.
You are right, it's all about viewpoint. But what is really important is your own.

well, i just finished building my first model airplane from scratch.
all in all, it has taken probably a little over 20 hours to construct, cover, and finish.
i have got all the rc gear in there, gas engine fitted, and it is ready to fly.. but... i'm scared!
lmao you guys... Thanks for the support and encouragement.
Well, I took the plane out a total of about 3 times yesterday (between various repairs etc). It had an airtime of approximately 10 seconds in total.. lol
Fortunately, I can say that the plane is still intact, apart from one servo that worked its way loose, which I will fix today. When that is done, I will take her out again and see if I can't get her more than 10 feet off the ground. Wish me more luck, apparently I didn't have enough yesterday... lol
