  What are some books to read

  i apologize because i know there must be information on the board in a thread somewhere, but i read.

  in another post about a book called the crisis of conscience that was a suggested read.

  any other suggestions?

  The first book we read was sent to me by my older sister who had already, unbeknownst to me in another part of the country, made her break. It is:

  WHEN GOD BECOMES A DRUG (Breaking the chains of Religious Addiction and Abuse), by Father Leo Booth.

  Being a lifetime JW myself, and dealing with an elderly zealot of a JW dad, this title spoke volumes to us. It dealt with the fear, guilt, and shame issues that so many need to confront. A great read - we then went on to C of C and many others already mentioned. We have never read so much in our lives - now, we actually have some time to do so without the hectic pace we'd kept up for so many years. The organization wants you to remain ignorant, and unread to keep control of you.

  Would you ever go back to an organized religion after leaving the Witnesses

  i was wondering just what the percentage would be on those who .

  have left and at some point turn to another group or church.. i know from my own trials that i will never be a part of any.

  was there a comment made at a meeting that finally convinced you, this is not right?

  for me a couple of weeks ago was in the service meeting, they stated that if the children didnt finish their homework because they were studying the bible or at a meeting that teachers should understand that their meetings and study are more important.

  i looked at my wife and went "what"??

  Yes, New Castles - Sunday meeting prayer.

  We are new to the board too and are really happy to have found others who share so much in common. First thing we did was read Ray Franz's books as others recommended to you - that's all it takes to realize - you are on the right path now! The org. was my life for 43 years and it is just about indescribable to now, finally, experience true freedom.

  Our teens were suffering from depression and not attending meetings with us for a few weeks. Elder's son had stopped by to count his time on Saturday and I told him about the kids/depression. Next day his elder dad gives prayer after WA study, with us sitting right up at the front without our kids, and says - "Be with those whose children no longer attend meetings because THEY DON'T HAVE THE PROPER VIEW OF THE TRUTH. Blew us away and next meeting was our last.

  A thought experiment

  have you ever stopped to consider that the best thing we can do for ourselves as recovering cultists is simply to move on?

  i know that is impossible for some, as they have deep connections with the organization due to family.

  but for many the best move is simply to refuse to let the jws occupy much of our time and energy -- mental, physical and emotional.
