Dustin,
I understand why it's hard to go back to the kingdom hall, because they all act like they care, when usually they just want to judge you.
Excellent summary of KH life.
Welcome!!!
last saturday an old friend of ours took her life.
she and her husband had almost been married 25 years, and we had known her longer than that.
she was like a little sister to my wife.

to whatever religion's website you surf, all have a comment on the tsunami in south asia: be it catholic, protestant, adventist, mormon, new apostolic or whatever.
they try to give comfort and encourage people to donate for the suffering people there.
but if you go to http://www.watchtower.org or http://www.jw-media.org there is no mention of it (at least by now).
Welcome to the Board, Indelcio!!
I don't want you to feel unwelcome, but I think I should comment on a couple of points you made.
Since WatchTower is moving printing presses, and other neccessities, they're slowly abandoning buildings in New York, mostly for security issues.
This has never been proved. They are just downsizing and consolidating their assets.
Further proof to the lack of updating comes from the fact that the publications released at the 2004 DC are not listed.
They are not obligated to do so. And some conventions are still being held around the world, so they don't want to spoil the fun for the remaining witnesses.
BTW, my father and a group of others spent a month down in Florida doing relief work, so it isn't just local relief...
Are you referring to Hurricane Andrew? The WT never quits bragging about the disaster relief they've given even in the distant past. The "faithful slave" is above Jesus Christ, because they go unashamedly against his words in Matthew 6:1-4:
"Take good care not to practice YOUR righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise YOU will have no reward with YOUR Father who is in the heavens. Hence when you go making gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full. But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, that your gifts of mercy may be in secret; then your Father who is looking on in secret will repay you."
I'll remain loyal to the principles of the orginization, but not to the people that run it, who seem to be skewing the original idea.
It's a distinction without a difference. You seem to forget that, according to the WT, you bear a responsability if you support the organization. The Reasoning book says:
*** rs 330-1 Religion ***
If Someone Says?
?I don?t agree with everything my church teaches, but I don?t see the need to change to another. I?d rather work for improvement within my own?
You might reply: ?I appreciate your telling me that. I am sure you will agree that what is really important to all of us is having God?s approval, is it not?? . . . Even if we personally do not practice the wrong things, the Bible shows that we share the blame if we support these organizations.
I hope you stay in the forum! Have fun and welcome again!!

In the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the leadership in Brooklyn had an excellent opportunity to display their 'Christian love.' But any help given in Bethel to people who were fleeing from Manhattan was timid and apathic at best. There's too much to say in a single post, but it's interesting to note how the WT tried to put a spin on the attacks doing a most weird PR. Their site jw-media.org kept making changes about the kind of help that was offered in the first couple of days. For details about their PR fiasco, check the Watchtower Observer.
There's more! In the following days, most of the official relief effort consisted in offering "comfort" to people around Ground Zero, using - you can guess - WT publications... According to an insider who wrote at the time,
The Governing Body has apparently decided that the safest course is to do nothing. No words of comfort to the Bethel family, no press statements, no relief efforts to the nearby rescue operation have been organized.
Read more in the article Message from Brooklyn Bethel on the Terrorist Attack on the US.

cyber-sista,
Yep,
I think this indicates where their heads are at. On the second link you mentioned is the "top headlines" which are all stories about witnesses being persecuted or whatever--not one mention of the Asian disaster.
I think this indicates where their hearts are at! They are a printing company with a religious facade - pure and simple.
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6:21
after all the events of 2004 regarding the botchtower, what do you think will happen next year?.
i can think of a few events.. first of all, 70 years will have passed since rutherflawed took on the name "jehovah's witnesses" - a gross misapplication of that scripture in isaiah.. all the new man presses will be operational - already, the wt have increased their watchtower circulation.. "godly obedience" district convention next summer - we all know what that will be about; and don't forget the layman's km article on how to book a hotel, and not just any hotel at that either.. a new book to replace "organised to accomplish our ministry".
bro barr of the governing body turns 100 (i think this is correct).
Hi truthseeker,
The name "JW" was adopted in 1931, so it is 73 years old now. But 2005 will mark 70 years since the Door of Heaven was closed. The "great crowd" started counting from 1935...
I would love if a Witness could show me from the Bible the 1935 date!

in an informal announcement at service meetings this week (corroborated by the question box in the january 2005 our kingdom ministry, pg 7) jws interested in contributing to the asian tsunami disaster should contribute directly to the "worldwide work" (the general fund).. the entire article referenced above: .
what is the best way to make contributions for the benefit of needy brothers in other lands?.
at times, we hear about brothers in another land who have come into material need because of persecution, disaster, or other difficult circumstances.
It's good to remember that the Question Box on disasters in the January KM is merely a coincidence. The article was written at least since november.

Some charities have high administrative or fund-raising costs, leaving only a small portion of the collected money for the intended purpose.
ROFLMAO!!! Priceless quote!

You contribute to the disaster relief, but the cash goes to WT's general fund, and then the WT decides how much will be really directed to the tragedy or whether it will be used for that purpose at all.
Considering their current cash flow, we all know what they will do with most of the extra money.

this guy needs a friend...and a life.
definitely a few fries short of a happy meal.. http://www.flyinhi.freeservers.com/.
Daniel,
I'm glad you explicitly disobeyed the Humble & Faithful & Discreet & "only channel" Slave by coming here. You'll learn a lot by calmly comparing what the Slave says with how things work in real life.
There are Many apostate sites to look at, i read them
Great! Not every single piece of information found in them is accurate but I believe you can use your "power of reason" to "distinguish both right and wrong." (Romans 12:1; Hebrews 5:14)
There a lot more sites than can you imagine. Take a look at a long list in http://www.freeminds.org/othrlink.htm.
I don't like everything they do and will not copy them and it surprises me to see that they let some things happen
I'd love to know who are "they" you're talking about! Do you refer to those who take the lead in Brooklyn?
although it is not a perfect organization there are many many witnesses who also don't like some things that happen and don't practice them
Yes, of course it is not a perfect organization. But that's not the problem, we know the Witnesses are imperfect. The problem is: the Governing Body says they are the only ones in the world that have been chosen by Christ himself!! They say that they became God's only channel to humankind in 1918/19!
Did you ever see the Live Forever book?
The book says in page 32:
There cannot be two sets of truth when one does not agree with the other. One or the other is true, but not both. Sincerely believing something, and practicing that belief, will not make it right if it really is wrong.
So, according to the logic of the organization, either:
1. The Governing Body (aka the Slave) was chosen by Jesus.
or
2. The Governing Body was not chosen by Jesus.
Both cannot be true at the same time. If it is shown proof that they were not chosen by Jesus, then the Governing Body is simply wrong and the Witness religion, though having good people, is not the Truth.
Is this reasoning correct?
