whats the funniest names you've come across at the kingdom hall?.
once i went to a hall were it was anonced that the seal's were away on holiday .in the closing prayer they prayed for brother pig.. i thought we were in a zoo.
We had a family with the last name "Cox." Naive little JW me, at age 12 or so, I didn't know that phonetically, it was a euphemism. I used to refer to the family in the plural as the "Coxes." Needless to say, I got lots of laughs whenever relating a story in which they were the subject, whether it was intended to be humorous or not. ;)

i've been told the glass moves around spelling stuff out.
my brother, before he became a dumbdub said it happened to him - but he was pretty young and probably p'd.
movies and tv play along with it.

I noticed your mention of the Runes, interestingly enough I was using those while still a JW, my boss had a set at work. <g> Of course, being a big bad eeeeeevil Pagan now, ;) I have a couple of sets of them and I'm actually starting to make sets of them from shed deer antlers.
Anyways I thought I would mention one of the best authors of books on the Runes is Edred Thorrson. He is quite scholarly and has sought to find the most historically accurate information on them from original sources whenever possible. I'm not sure if you have one of his books already, but I recommend his books highly. The best one for just getting a basic knowledge of the Runes is "Futhark."
Enjoy! :D

on the vasectomy thread someone mentioned jw opinion of body piercing.
do you have a body piercing or a tattoo?
did you have it done while in the dubs, in secret maybe?
Shortly after leaving the Borg I got a bellybutton ring, but it was not done properly and my body started rejecting it, pushing out the ring. :( So I had to take it out and let it heal. I might get it redone eventually, we'll see. I have the top of my left ear pierced, and double pierced lobes on each. I had triples but again had bad luck with the piercer who did it and had to take them out, she did about 1/2 lobe, 1/2 cartilage on each and it was just too painful. If it had been total lobe or cartilage it would have been fine. Oh well. I'll try again some other time.
I have two tattoos and I'm still contemplating what my third is going to be (something with an oak/acorn theme but not sure exactly what or where just yet.)
On my right hip/waist area I have Celtic knotwork, it's known as a trinity knot or triquetra, actually it's a double with a smaller knot within the larger one. It's based off of a necklace I own. Yes, the symbol is used on the show Charmed, unfortunately. I had the tat done in 1996, though, long before it was popularized by those 90210 'witches.' The other is on my right shoulder, it's a fairy playing a spiderweb harp/lyre. It's cool cuz it peeks out of my bodice at Ren Faire. ;)

here i sit using this infernal aol-tv box yet again.. i broke down and bought a real computer at best buy a month ago.
i don't have it now, though and that is as paul harvey says "the rest of the story".. since a good friend of mine since high school was a technician at best buy, i felt comfortable buying the system.
i should have seen it coming.
Hi Bendrr,
You might want to check this site out: http://www.bestbuysux.org
I, too, made the mistake of purchasing a PC there, and had trouble. Mind you, I have worked in IT support for about eight years (so why did I buy at Worst Buy, you ask? My PC died during semester and I needed a replacement FAST. Mistake, yes. Wouldn't do it again.) and when the problem arose I told them it was the system board, argued with them for a MONTH while they had my PC. I badgered them until they let me speak with the actual tech working on my PC who informed me it was the video card. I had already replaced the video card with a brand new ATI All-In-Wonder, and the problem still existed. But OH NO, their dinky little tech was more qualified than I. Turns out they did replace the sys bd on the sly although they told me they didn't. Heh heh, their egoes can be so fragile. Anyways I didn't know that when I picked it up, so I attached a condition to my acceptance signature on the work order - I wrote a note stating I disagreed with their diagnosis and had attempted to get them to take care of it properly, so that if I returned again, I would have that on file. I haven't had to go back (knock on wood). Just something to keep in mind if you aren't satisfied or are wary of the repair - make a note of it on the work order before you sign it, so it's on record. :)
Good luck!

Thanks Sirona, yours is lovely too. :)
I've gone by this nick for a few years now, it all started with people calling me "spidergirl" and it sort of evolved. ;)

Hi Hex,
I used to be more gothy than I am now, in fact, its one of the things I used to get pulled into the back room for ("Sister, you're wearing too much black" "We're concerned about you dying your hair <black> <candy apple red> <black again>" blah blah). One of my friends and I used to go out to the local goth clubs (ditching our now-ex-husbands at home I might add). Hee hee. It was a fun time, especially after I got out of the Borg and could really goth out.
But, I guess I've mellowed (or gotten lazy in terms of fashion LOL) and I just sort of base my appearance on my mood that day, which sometimes means goth-ish, but it's not every day such as it was in my teens and twenties. (I just turned 31.) But my new husband and I go out to the goth clubs occasionally.
I had really long black hair up until this past spring, when I cut it into an assym-bob. I'm growing it back out now.
And hey Sirona, nice to meet another Pagan in these parts. Reconstructionist, myself. :)

last night on one of the entertainment magazines shows they said that michael jackson just gave an interview to tv guide.
in it he says he is still a jw and still goes door to door in disguise.
i had heard a rumour recently that he still donated a lot of money to the society but had no clue he still claimed to be one.
Here's an interesting article he did for Beliefnet earlier this year, in which it seems that he is leaning towards Judaism. He also talks about his JW childhood.

hey rem,.
i saw your post in the astrology thread and decided to start a new discussion here about keirsey.
i noticed how many people have been enjoying the silly little emode tests and immediately thought they'd really be amazed by keirsey.
Hi Esmerelda,
I'm an ENTJ myself (Field Marshal). I'm in fairly good company, as Carl Sagan, Napoleon, and Alan Greenspan are also ENTJ's. (I wonder how Napoleon found the time to take this test while he was out conquering?) ;p
Anyways, here's the description for a Field Marshal:
Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition it is marshalling or situational organizing role that reaches the highest development in Fieldmarsals. As this kind of role is practiced some contingency organizing is necessary, so that the second suit of the Fieldmarshal's intellect is devising contingency plans. Structural and functional engineering, though practiced in some degree in the course of organizational operations, tend to be not nearly as well developed and are soon outstripped by the rapidly growing skills in organizing. But it must be said that any kind of strategic exercize tends to bring added strength to engineering as well as organizing skills. As the organizing capabilities the Fieldmarshal increase so does their desire to let others know about whatever has come of their organizational efforts. So they tend to take up a directive role in their social exchanges. On the other hand they have less and less desire, if they ever had any, to inform others.
Hardly more than two percent of the total population, the Fieldmarshals are bound to lead others, and from an early age they can be observed taking command of groups. In some cases, Fieldmarshals simply find themselves in charge of groups, and are mystified as to how this happened. But the reason is that Fieldmarshals have a strong natural urge to give structure and direction wherever they are -- to harness people in the field and to direct them to achieve distant goals. They resemble Supervisors in their tendency to establish plans for a task, enterprise, or organization, but Fieldmarshals search more for policy and goals than for regulations and procedures.
They cannot not build organizations, and cannot not push to implement their goals. When in charge of an organization, whether in the military, business, education, or government, Fieldmarshals more than any other type desire (and generally have the ability) to visualize where the organization is going, and they seem able to communicate that vision to others. Their organizational and coordinating skills tends to be highly developed, which means that they are likely to be good at systematizing, ordering priorities, generalizing, summarizing, at marshalling evidence, and at demonstrating their ideas. Their ability to organize, however, may be more highly developed than their ability to analyze, and the Fieldmarshal leader may need to turn to an Inventor or Architect to provide this kind of input.
Fieldmarshals will usually rise to positions of responsibility and enjoy being executives. They are tireless in their devotion to their jobs and can easily block out other areas of life for the sake of their work. Superb administrators in any field -- medicine, law, business, education, government, the military -- Fieldmarshals organize their units into smooth-functioning systems, planning in advance, keeping both short-term and long-range objectives well in mind. For the Fieldmarshals, there must always be a goal-directed reason for doing anything, and people's feelings usually are not sufficient reason. They prefer decisions to be based on impersonal data, want to work from well thought-out plans, like to use engineered operations -- and they expect others to follow suit. They are ever intent on reducing bureaucratic red tape, task redundancy, and aimless confusion in the workplace, and they are willing to dismiss employees who cannot get with the program and increase their efficiency. Although Fieldmarshals are tolerant of established procedures, they can and will abandon any procedure when it can be shown to be ineffective in accomplishing its goal. Fieldmarshals root out and reject ineffectiveness and inefficiency, and are impatient with repetition of error.
Now why couldn't these traits have kicked the "new personality's" arse a few years earlier? I would have my degree by now! <grin>
Cheers,
