Don't look at it as giving her the power. Realize, instead, that you have reverted to conditioned responses that at the root are based on thoughts. Thought in and of itself has no power to harm you, they are just insubstantial waves of energy flowing into and out of awareness. "You" are what witnesses those thoughts, you are awareness itself and awareness can never be harmed. Stand back, as it were, and watch those thoughts come and go while "you" remain unaffected.

14 years later- still a wreck! What's up with me!

which was a lovely thing to say, and made me feel 'valued' (thanks listener!).
but, you know, 14 years on, and there are times, when i feel like i just left.. i took the children to the pictures yesterday (to see 'wallace & grommit').

When it comes to fast food I'll take Arby's. They used to have an ArbyQ which was fantastic. Now I have to get the plain ol' roast beef and put their barbeque sause on it, which is very good IMO. I always get extra packets of the BBQ sause and use it when I go to Hardee's for their roast beef sandwich. One thing I dislike about Hardee's is that all condiments are in individual packets - annoying! That, and the fact that they oftentimes get my order wrong.

I would say that living for today is wiser than living for some imagined future time. Wiser still is seeing/realizing that all there ever is is what lies between all ideas of the past and all ideas of the future. Right now, this present moment, is all you've got and all you'll ever have. In the realization of this life takes care of itself.

I don't even like to use the word "god" because it has too much baggage attached to it. People automatically revert to acquired beliefs rather than experiencing the actuality to which the word points.
As for idle discussion, in and of itself there is no harm; it is another arising within what is. The usual result, however, can further solidify one's core beliefs about who one is in contrast to those who hold contrary beliefs, and it is this which keeps separation from others as well as separation from "god" in place. It is this separation which becomes the fuel for conflict of every sort. And the irony is that the one who would hold any belief has no basis in reality, for when searched for, no such entity can be found. When searched for, the "me" that would cling to any belief and reject an "other's" belief doesn't even exist except as an idea.
"ME" is only an idea - look for it and find this out directly. What is real, however, is what every belief arises within - that is what you are. "That" holds no judgment.

Isn't it ironic that in using a name for "god", or anything else for that matter, automatically creates distance, creates separation from that which is being named and that which is naming? And isn't it ironic how disputes concerning "god's" name in particular creates further distancing and separation, how it creates tension and argument. Do you think "god" finds this pleasing?
Wouldn't it make more sense to drop all names for "god" and seek instead that to which the word god points to? Look for the presence of what the word points to, look in the only place that presence could possibly be: in what is arising in the here and now. Notice what is doing the looking, and in the finding of that separation dissolves.

The future? Isn't it always now? Discover this truth and then see what happens to "problems".
Not to hijack the thread, but a more pertinent question would be, "Now that you've left the JWs how are you living your life right now? Are you viewing life through a lens of belief and idea which is based on the past, or are you totally open to what actually is in this present moment, without deference to any idea or belief? There is a vast difference between the two, the difference between total freedom and being bound by delusion.
