Another Question, if I May...
by AGuest ini truly hope you don't get trite, cliche, anecdotal, or sarcastic, but share with us what you really believe/feel/think.
i will start: for me, i define "success" as peace of mind.
mine.

I think success is when you realize what you really are; that leads to what AGuest and exwhyzeee define as success.

Are we really mortal?
by cptkirk inor could we be immortal?.
what is consciousness?
is it not the formation and function of the organ we call the brain?

You see, I think this "consciousness" that is such a mystery is at the heart of the human dilemma. People create ideas in their mind about God and who they are and then build an identity and attachment around those ideas, but those ideas arise within consciousness itself. This begs the question, "who am I if I'm not an idea arising in the mind?" and what is this consciousness that is necessary for those ideas to exist? No matter what an idea is it must rely on consciousness, so what IS it and who am I in relation to that consciousness?

i personally would have to say the animal works purely off instinct,
I agree. My point is that animals are conscious, they have awareness/consciousness, just as humans have awareness/consciousness. Even when driven by instinct an animal is still conscious/aware - so what is consciousness? I'm not talking about intelligence, logic, or instinct, but consciousness itself. And I don't know if it can be argued that the bare raw consciousness of both animals and humans differs in any way because we don't know what it is . You can easily say that some people are more intelligent than others because that's measurable, but how does one measure consciousness if you don't even know what it is? How does one separate consciousness in order to examine it? And the examination itself requires consciousness, so how would that affect the examination?

your conduit transformer thing is fine, but based on the evidence, doesn't it suggest the brain would need to be of a grade of quality (an evolved state), before that can happen? meaning to some degree (or large degree) the physical world dictates whether the organism will be able to attain consciousness....
Though limited in reasoning and intelligence compared to humans, animals are conscious beings, are they not? Even if they can't "self-reflect" as we know it they are still aware/conscious. In my opinion, consciousness is the great mystery. It's already established that consciousness affects that which is observed, which begs the question - just what IS it? I don't think we'll ever really know.

what is consciousness? is it not the formation and function of the organ we call the brain? (along with it's supporting cast of organs).
Nobody actually knows what consciousness is. It's not like you can isolate it and examine it; besides which, that which would examine consciousness IS consciousness. Perhaps the brain is a kind of conduit or transformer through which consciousness flows rather than originates from.

Stating the OBVIOUS with such a sense of "discovery"! False prophecy
by Terry incharles taze russell, j.f.rutherford, fred franz and the entire watchtower writing department from 1879 to this day have fallen into a trap.. they state the obvious with a profound sense of "discovery".. meaning what?.
they look at "today" and look at the "past" and ignore the fact that nobody can look at tomorrow!.
in what sense?.

The supposed invisible return of Jesus is what I can't wrap my mind around. How in God's name can they state such a thing and expect people to believe it? I'll never understand how anyone can accept such an idea to begin with, but obviously there are people who do.

by cptkirk inwhen you were in the borg looking at the yearbook, none of the middle-eastern countries were accounted for were they?
did it ever strike anyone as odd that the region of the world which this religion was born in, had no "preaching" work being carried out there?
all the while the wtbs is shouting the end is sooo close?

I'll bet he's getting kick-backs from the Lie Detector Administrator's Union and The DNA Testing Board. MP is the lowest form of television out there; just disgusting. He's such a phoney in his care and concern for those hapless individuals who display their train wreck lives for all to see. What's sad to see is that there seems to be an audience for this; his show keeps rolling on and on, each episode a repeat of the last.
