A Thought Experiment: the TALKING DOG
by Terry ini was just sitting here performing a little gedanken (thinking experiment) in my widdle head.. .
imagine dogs could talk.. .
in one of our conversations our dog tells us that their hearing is so acute they can hear sounds we don't even know are there.. we acknowledge that this is true.

This is a little off topic, but it reminded me of a movie I just watched called Dean Spanley. Dog lover's will really enjoy it, but check it out even if you aren't one.
From Amazon: SYNOPSIS: Multiple Oscar nominee Peter O'Toole adds yet another offbeat role to his long resume with the mystical comedy-drama Dean Spanley. Adapted from Lord Dunsany's popular novella - My Talks with Dean Spanley and helmed by Toa Fraser, the film stars O'Toole as Horatio Fisk, an irascible, cantankerous septuagenarian living out his final days at the turn of the 20th Century. Despite his distant and slightly strained relationship with his son Henslowe (Jeremy Northam), Horatio willfully joins the young man on regular outings; the tedium and monotony of these routines eventually grow so overwhelming, however, that the two decide to attend a lecture on the Transmigration of Souls by a visiting Hindu Swami. At the meeting, their paths intersect with the eccentric Dean Spanley (Sam Neill), and a friendship blossoms between Spanley and Henslowe. When Spanley joins Henslowe for a private dinner, and accepts his invitation to sample a rare Hungarian wine known as the Imperial Tokay, Spanley instinctively brings forth reminiscences of a prior life lived out as a canine - and his recollections hold a rather bizarre connection to Horatio's familial past. ...Dean Spanley (2008) ( My Talks with Dean Spanley)

I woudn't describe it as a comedy though there are moments of humor. It takes a while for it to get going, but the wait is worth it.

Great post, Jeff. People generally think that happiness must be acquired, and therefore go in search of it in some fashion. What they don't realize is that happiness is an inherent quality of what they truly are, and since they have no knowledge of what they truly are they are influenced by outside sources. Those sources will send them on endless quests to fulfill their desire for happiness and peace, and no matter how successful they are in achieving some particular goal to meet that purpose they will shortly feel a need to set another goal. In the meantime, they completely overlook what's already present within themselves.

The WT, the Millerites and Orson Wells
by Aussie Oz init is well known of course that ct russell was a fan of william miller and the mans teachings.
indeed his colaboration with millerite nelson barbour cemented russells love of all that was millerism.. i recall some time ago a thread wherin it was mentioned that fred franz had a library stuffed full of millerite books and so on, and that he himself modeled his own style of address and writing after william miller himself.. with that sort of impact on the doctrines and teaching methods adopted by the society at that time, i am also wondering about orson wells book 1984.. could it be plausable that this book also has its place on the shelves of some locked away private library?
published in 1949, the wt leadership has had plenty of time to study the methods of the novel and try them out.

Orson Welles was in the 1941 film '1984' which is probably the reason for the mistake.
George
Huh? That would be quite a trick for Orson Welles since George Orwell didn't write the book until 1948. The only film Welles appeared in in 1941 was Citizen Kane.

All this is what is called "contemplative prayer."
Yes.
Thomas Keating is an excellent source on how to practice centering prayer, which leads to contemplative prayer.

I am amazed at the ignorance............
by Night Owl ini read with great interest the evil spirits thread, amazed at the ignorance on this forum concerning the occult.. if you do not believe in the spirit world, you are certainly akin to toothless hillbillies.
good for moonshine making, cousin marrying and not much else.. both the usa and the russians continue to pursue the occult, following in the foorsteps of nazi germany.
they are not ignorant people, such as yourselves.. hopefully, you non-believers will slowly breed yourselves out of the population, since you are the ones holding back progress, with your precious "science" which is really bullshit in disguise.. so tell me, what separates you "intellectuals" from those so called ancient ignorants?

Coolest thing about the Packers is they are fan owned!!
Yup, and they just offered stock to the public again - 250,000 shares were made available to the public at $250 a share (not available to corporations or businesses). Sounds like they will be making an additional 30,000 shares available. And people who own shares will never make a profit from them. It just shows how deep their loyalty is to the team.
From http://www.packers.com/community/shareholders.html
"Green Bay Packers, Inc., has been a publicly owned, nonprofit corporation since Aug. 18, 1923, when original articles of incorporation were filed with Wisconsin’s secretary of state.
A total of 4,750,937 shares is owned by 112,158 stockholders none of whom receives any dividend on the initial investment.
The corporation is governed by a board of directors and a seven member executive committee.
One of the more remarkable business stories in American history, the team is kept viable by its shareholders — its unselfish fans. Even more incredible, the Packers have survived during the current era, permeated by free agency and the NFL salary cap. And, thanks in large part to Brown County’s passage of the 2000 Lambeau Field referendum, the club will remain solvent and highly competitive well into the future due to its redeveloped stadium.
Fans have come to the team’s financial rescue on several occasions, including four previous stock sales: 1923, 1935, 1950 and 1997.
To protect against someone taking control of the team, the articles of incorporation prohibit any person from owning more than 200,000 shares."
