Yeah, my first thought was "Why don't I deserve the latest issue?"

Someone left me an Awake magazine
by poppers inmuch to my surprise i found an awake magazine in my front porch the other day.
surprising because my neighbor's are jw and they know i'm not, and that i'm not interested - the father is an elder and they are always having meetings over there, but they themselves have never approached me.
so, i looked through it with the eye of a skeptic based on what i've read here.

No it wasn't - but that sure would catch my eye! Seems to me it was the January or February issue of 2003 - it already has been put in my 'circular file'.

Slip of the tongue and other embarrassments
by target inlove it when someone is trying to say something and the tongue chooses to rearrange the wording.
i think my favorite was one sunday a particular ms who had a thing for perfectionism was announcing the song to be sung "jehovah's happy people".
it came out "jehovah's happy peepee".

I was riding a bus when coming off furlough from the service, wearing my Marine uniform and just looking for someone of the female persuasion visit with when this downright gorgeous girl sat next to me - that sort of thing never happened to me. So, somehow the conversation got steered onto the subject of local water supplies. I informed her quite seriously that I was suspicious of local water supplies and "all the little orgasms" swimming around in it. We both laughed, and she knew what was really on my mind.

Much to my surprise I found an Awake magazine in my front porch the other day. It seemed harmless enough - an article on being sleep deprived and what to do about it. And an article on personality types based on blood typing (which I had never heard of before and which they derided). Then it struck me as being a rather ridiculous attempt at innoculating the 'unknowing' against even talking about any kind of blood issues, lest the reader later join their club and are confronted directly with their stand on blood. Or to provide another reason for members to steer clear of anything to do with blood.
The implication I got was that even though they think personality based on blood is groundless, the seed is planted in the mind of the reader that it could in fact be true. It also said that each individual has their own unique blood type even within each general type. So this would mean that if you were to take blood from a donor you would also be importing his personality type (if in fact it were true, which of course, they say it is not). Very clever. -

I passed on my first try. I was the last person tested that day and as the examiner and I got in the car an old buddy of the examiner showed up - seems they hadn't seen eachother in many years. So the examiner invited him to ride along in the backseat. During the whole test they visited, with the examiner looking back at his buddy and not really watching what I was doing. I was on the road a total of 5 minutes! All he really cared about was talking with his friend and getting rid of me as soon as possible - thankfully he passed me with only a minor discrepency on my left turns.

Why does God need to be worshiped?
by Scully injust curious about this question today and wondered if anyone else has pondered this.. is worship meant to be a reverent show of appreciation for life that god imparts to individuals?
if that's the case, and someone - by the mere accident of their birth - has a truly crappy life, why should these people worship god or show him "appreciation" for their unfortunate circumstances?
why should anyone who endures hardships worship god, particularly if they have been worshiping god and then all of a sudden a heap of trouble just plops into their lives, unannounced and unwelcome??.

As others have pointed out, the need for god to be worshipped is an invention of man. Man invents god which he automatically sets apart from himself through an act of worship, then man wonders why he can't find god. What the word 'god' points to through what man claims god to be has no relation to what is beneath all concepts of god. But man is largely unwilling to uncover what's beneath every concept, including the concept of god.

Afraid of Dying?
by PointBlank ini don't know if this subject has been discussed here before.
if it has, could someone help me find it?
if it hasn't (i can't imagine that it hasn't), here's what i was wondering.

No. When the 'you' you take yourself to be is seen to be a fiction, it has in effect 'died' already. What is left after this death is what's always here and always will be here - pure awareness. Yes, the body dies, but the one occupying the body doesn't exist in reality, so what's to fear?

Meditation still evil?
by Bryan ini remember, it seems, years ago the society inc. taught that meditating allowed satan into your mind.
yoga was bad!
i learned after a fall in '92, with the help of a bio feedback dr., that with meditation i could adjust my body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure.

"The goal of Eastern meditation techniques, he pointed out, is to separate oneself from the world of reality and conscious thought, oftentimes by inducing a trancelike condition. In this way, as it were, a person "finds himself," comes to grips with his problems and, with the help of "his inner self," is able to solve them."
Whoever said that has no grasp of what real meditation is. You can't separate yourself from reality to 'find' yourself. Most people who talk about or teach meditation have no idea what they are doing, and often rely on so called 'experts and gurus' who are equally ignorant. I will grant that meditation is beyond conscious thought, but nothing needs to be done to achieve it because meditation is simply one's natural state of awareness. There is every possibility of being in meditation (consciously) at all times by simply resting in one's natural state of awareness - no techniques required. A whole slew of techniques has grown around the idea of getting there, but they only keep it at arm's length. Techniques may lead to altered states of awareness but these are not meditation. These techniques may have beneficial health effects but they don't reveal reality, which is what meditation does. Real meditation is simply seeing what is, as it is, without the distorting influence of the mind or through the filter of the ego. Nothing needs to be done to see what is. -

Brenda,
I'm just curious - what do you mean exactly by this, " I belive (he, she, it, they) resides at the center of THE universe..."
Are you saying that god resides in a specific physical locality in the universe? Whatever your belief is, what is it that leads you to that belief?
