Returning to school the same day after peeing my pants in 2nd grade. My mother made me take a bath and go right back to school. I didn't live that one down until the following year when a classmate peed her pants. Well, it may not be the hardest thing, but it sure sticks out in my memory.

On the day my father died shortly after seeing him for the last time, dead on a hospital gurney, tears flowing down my face while in total anguish, a "good hearted Christian" approached me to give me the "key" to overcoming my grief. I was never so angry with a "christian" before - what arrogance, what conceit - she was like a vulture patrolling the hallways of the hospital looking for people to save.

"I had a really bad corn on the inside of my left big toe. It has started to recede."
That's great to hear, Richie. It's those little things that can really make a difference.

Death watch
by poppers init just occurred to me that if a family member were lying in their death bed, or that it was known they were about to die, that the family members would make an effort to spend as much time with them as possible.
afterall, they are going to die aren't they?
isn't it logical that you'd want to spend as much time as you could with them, or at least make the time that you still have together as enjoyable as possible?.

So why is it that in the JWs if a family member or someone else associated with them is believed to be condemned to death at the big A there is this unwillingness to share their remaining time in as pleasant a way as possible? It seems to me that this would be the compassionate thing to do.

"Buddha is a false god"When the man who latter was called the Buddha awoke to what he really was, someone asked him who he was. He did not say he was god, or a god, he said "I am awake." He never claimed to be god. He didn't even talk about god. He had no control over the subsequent conclusions and claims that followed him during his life or through history. I would venture to say that if he saw how his teaching has morphed into what it has he would be disappointed, just as I feel Jesus would be disappointed if he were to see what has become of his teaching.
Buddha's whole teaching was to point the way to discovering the truth of what one actually is right now in this very moment. His teaching was simply one of pointing out how there is suffering in the world and how to overcome it in the discovery of the truth of one's very Being.

Shining One,"and I can agree that actual, physical proof of God existence (by your set standards) is unattainable."
Isn't this the problem, that proof of God's existence isn't possible, and that all of the various religions and philosophies are nothing but attempts to prove the unprovable? And furthermore, isn't the disagreement between opposing beliefs the foundation of the violence and hatred in the world? Can you see the irony here? Beliefs which cannot be proven are used as an excuse to isolate, separate, and denigrate those who have opposing beliefs, which also cannot be proven.
So I ask, what are your standards? Are your standards any more relevant than anyone else's, and if so, what makes them more relevant?

"think about it: where does logic come from in the first place? It is a transcendent proposition."
I don't see logic as a "transcendent proposition" since it is within the realm of the thinking mind. How is the mind transcendent?

Is there any way I can find out from God what is "Truth" without resorting to the bible? Without relying on pat definitions of God can you tell me what God is or where I can find him so I can find out first hand, for myself, rather than having to accept something outside myself written by others? Prayer doesn't work. What must I do? And how will I know ABSOLUTELY whether or not truly and unequivicably what is revealed is "Truth?"
