Jeez Gumby, reading that initial post in this thread was like looking back at a picture of someone when he was a kid wearing knickers.

What event in your life significantly impacted the choice you made to worship this religion?
What a great choice of words, worship this religion. I would guess that most ex-JWs (which I am not, I've never been a JW) would recognize just how apt that phrase is in regard to the JWs. It wouldn't surprise me if most would rephrase it thusly: worship this organization (the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society).

Thanks for the input Poppers...btw Eckhart's new book A New Earth builds on the Power of Now and is just as profound and beautifully written
Yes, A New Earth is very good. Stillness Speaks is also very powerful, especially when listened to. I would characterize it as a distilled "teaching"; if you are ripe it will take you right into the core of Being, if you are not ripe your mind will think you've been had because it doesn't appear to have much substance to it.
I'm glad to know that there are others here who have discovered Tolle.

Good evening, JW spy visitors...........
by Sunnygal41 ini have it on the most impeccable authority that our site is regularly monitored............my first reply was "lol...........no surprise.......we've known this for some time.........and we spy on their sites, also.
" my next thought, or rather vision was of the iconic "spy vs. spy" cartoon in mad magazine.............guess my years free are showing.........

Ya mean the WTS is starting to take secret pictures and can identify some of us from our butts?
They must have a real "crack" squad of investigators.

It has nothing to do with any group or religion or organization. It will simply give you profound insight as to the magnificient depths of your being. What you are and how you can enhance your life experience. It's based on deep insight that is found in the essence of all spiritual teachings-i.e. Buddhism, Christianity, Taosim, Toltec ect.
By implementing some of the ideas I personally have grown tremendously. I have a confidence, sense of security, joy and peace I've never before known. A far cry from the fear, guilt and unworthiness that a cult produces.I agree with you entirely, onesong. I would also like to add that The Power of Now will destroy the possibility of ever getting caught in any sort of cult ever. It illuminates how we as individuals become identified with beliefs about who/what we are, and how that identification clouds our real nature. After realizing one's real nature falling into a cult is an impossibility.

missed out
by aoxo inbecause i grew up in the truth i missed out on a whole lot of kids at school that i could have been great friends with.
also a couple of girls that i could have had a first relationship with.
i missed out on family moments each year exchanging gifts with relatives that i could have enjoyed (or not enjoyed) seeing during holidays.

"I have a lot of regrets, but trying to not dwell on it but move forward... Jumping into the "World" with both feet and it's not only enjoyable out here, but just ... nice. So, although I've missed out on a LOT of things (even as an adult), there is still much time to live life."
Good for you, merfi! Live life fully, in this very moment - that's where life is.

Are you a drama queen / king?
by G Money inwould you admit to being a drama queen or king??

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Christian?
by Scissorhands inlike mormons, jehovah's witnesses believe that christianity died with the last of the apostles.
they believe christianity was not resurrected until their founder, charles taze russell, began organizing the watchtower society in the 1870s.
in their view the cross is a pagan symbol adopted by an apostate church and salvation is impossible apart from the watchtower.

Welcome Scissorhands. It's clear that you need to read some more posts here before continuing your line of threads. I'm just wondering, what is your agenda beyond pointing to those here that JW isn't real Christianity? Are you advocating some particular set of belief other than JWism?

Brainwashed Children
by I-follow-the-narrow-path ini noticed an elder showed a picture of "paradise" and asked "who are the people dipicted"... .
serveral children answered and said the same thing "they (look like they) are witnesses" -- .
it was as if these children were taught that only jws are right... which they probably were.

Those pictures of destruction make me ask, why wouldn't god just have everyone who isn't worthy simply die, why would it be necessary for earthquakes, fire and brimstone, explosions, erupting volcanoes and so forth to happen? Couldn't god just wave his majic hand and have all those who didn't accept the WTBS party line just keel over dead? Does death have to be preceded by all of the melodrama of a world literally falling apart? There would be a lot less clean up afterward and more time for meetings, right? I can't view it as anything other than a scare tactic.
