  this is an interesting article posted by the christian left from thw huffington post.

  i know jehovah's witnesses do not teach the rapture (except maybe for the 144,000) so all of them expect to live through the tribulation (whatever that was to them).

  I agree. Televangelists are the most brazen about it though.

  "Jack Van Impe ministries would often reinforce this message and preach that if you were left behind then the chances of your making it through the tribulation were slim to none. Though he did get 'new light' and released a video saying that there was a chance, he named it Left Behind and my dumb self ordered a copy just in case."

  Jack van Impe (what a clown) and his fawning wife, Rexella, give me the giggles. Boy, they sure know how to create, feed, and and then exploit people's fears.

  my wife got me started watching this show last year.

  we've downloaded the previous seasons on netflix and have found it to be really well done.

  the story line, scenery,costumes,old cars and compelling characters have us hooked.

  i live next to jw neighbors.

  i was a jw 1000 miles away over 20 years ago, never here.

  as far as i know, nobody here knows i once was, including the neighbors.. so there wouldn't be any reason for them to shun me.

  "most Witnesses don't want to be a neighbor and avoid any eye contact to avoid implied humanity."

  Boy that's the truth. I've lived 2 doors away from JWs for at least 30 years and I can't remember a single instance of them acknowledging my existence with a simple hello, unless I say it first. It goes without saying they don't even look my way when we are outside at the same time. It's actually kind of creepy.

  Conversation with a Seminary Student in Starbucks today

  this is a distilled (and from memory) reconstruction of a chat this morning.... my 81 year old ex-baptist minister friend dub and i went to starbucks for coffee and conversation.

  dub likes to start conversations with strangers.. today a seminary student caught his eye.

  they talked for about half an hour before dub dropped me into it.
