  i was wondering if anyone could tell me how a jehovah's witness service goes.

  what is different from a run of the mill methodist or baptist service?

  You pegged my question right on the nose - why would you not be able to associate with your old friends - wouldn't you have a greater chance of bringing them over to your "side" if you kept associating with them?

  So you sorta answered my question abou tthe interpretation already.

  When they come to my door - is it for my benefit or their own. There has to benefits to following the rules even if it is simply promises of somehting better

  What peaked my interest was that I was considering going to a service just to observe - but I wanted to understand a bit more first.

  What does confuse me I think is - if they are trying to rule you and get their interpretation of the bible into you - what IS their interpretation? What about me (a young adult - caucassion - engaged - woman) would they try to change or get me to believe?

  I see - so you are expected to follow their rules - what role do they play in the services? Are they like a main governing body or individual ones?
