i would venture to guess it has something to do with the fact that the memorial is today.. the last upsurge i noticed was during christmas.. welcome all newbies!!
!.
Thank u for your welcome.
I have been around for a while, just not posted a lot.
How long till I am not classed as a newbie...and what will my next ranking be? Jedi Master?

my closes friend asked me today if her and her husband should just go ahead and write a letter of disassociation or wait to be df.
many months ago i talked with them about 607, etc.
all the things i was finding out.
I chose to D'A.
My family had already started shunning me for letting them down by not attending anyway!
Not having to look over my shoulder, avoid the door or phone was a huge relief!
Do whats right for you.

i remember one year i was in my late teens and living away from home and needed a ride to the memorial.
i was invited to go with a couple from the hall and on the way they picked up a bible study they invited, this bible study ended up being a person i worked with who i knew was studying.
we did the memorial thing, and dropped off the study and went home.
Looking back, when I took someone new I didnt have an overwhelming feeling of pride about the whole process. I was actually quite embarrassed by how sickly sweet everyone was, it was quite un-natural.
The worse bit was always the little speech at the end to all interested person to attend the special talk on the following sunday and to have a bible study.
I didnt realise at the time just how much of a recruiting campaign it really was.
What they should have said was "And those people sat at the back who no-one is talking too...well thats whats happen if you dare to think for yourself!"

i have a friend who has been inactive as a witness for nearly six years.
yesterday i mentioned that i had wednesday off and wanted to see if they wanted to get something done wednesday, we had been trying to find time for, for awhile now.
out of the blue, they said "i can't, the memorial is wednesday.
I never understand this one either.
My parents invited my ex husband who was never a witness, has since said he only went along to please me and thinks its vile. He said he wouldnt mind going to the memorial though...wot the hell is that all about??? I mean I know he likes a drink, but surely there's better bars near where he lives!

i am the youngest of 6 children (the only on that is out)and between us we have 12 kids.
the last i knew only one was still attending meetings.
two others were never baptized and see my parents once in a great while.
Out of 4 of us
3 baptised
3 out!
I still in...he's the youngest, and still very much hooked by it all. I feel sorry for him even though he shuns me, he knows no better.

how ludicrous is that witness idea?
wifey and i have been out for well over two years - and had 'faded' some months before that.
not a single 'shepherd' of the flock has given a flying shit.
Hi there,
I left in Dec 03, and they never tried to get in touch with me at all for over a year and a half. Then out the blue, my dad tells me its going to be announced that I am disfellowshipped, wld I like to meet with the elders to sort it out. I was pregnant at the time so said I didnt need the stress could they wait a couple of months till the baby was born. They obviously couldnt because they summoned me a week before baby was due and asked me if I still wanted to be a witness, said it was just a little chat. But I knew the signs....3 of them turned up! Thats a committee!!!!! So I said "Nope I am not prepared to discuss anything with you as you know I am due to have this baby any time and I dont need the stress. I'll talk to you afterwards when I am ready!" Still not good enough...4 weeks later I get a letter they are disfellowshipping me!
Like heck are they...I wrote a letter telling them exactly what I thought of them, how hypocritical they all are blah blah blah, really got a lot of stuff of my chest, and disassociated myself!
So I have been free officially for 9 months! Wah-hey!
Kick them ...before they kick you!

Hi Noni
Welcome.
I too have just started posting again, after quite a while of just lurking.
I am shunned by my brother, and partly by my parents until they want to see their grandchildren. So I commend you and empathise with you and your situation.
Look forward to getting to know you.

hey everyone.... i dont really know what to say, here i am, i guess.
i was raised as a jw in a very small town, and da'd myself when i was 15, because i just didn't care about meetings.
im now in my early twenties.
Welcome to the board.
I found that the ones who professed to be holier than thou, were more often than not .... the most hypocritical!!!!
Have Fun!
