Kid has Xbox stolen, police buy him a new one
by Simon init's easy to get down and disheartened about depressing world events.. it's important to remember that the good guys outnumber the bad guys, they just don't make the headlines as often.. so here's a nice story:.
on sunday, 11-year-old tontrevion campbell went to church with his mom.. at the same time, police say, burglars entered his home and broke one of the commandments.. as the memphis police department describes it on its facebook page: "the thief or thieves stole several of his mom's items, but they also stole the young man's xbox game system and every single game that this 11-year-old owned.".
there are quite a few adults who'd be upset.

CEDARS (Again) Is it really about religious beliefs?
by Listener injohn cedars has posted his latest blog "the trouble with apostates (and why it shouldn't put you off becoming one)".
i acknowledge that he is entitled to his opionin just as we are ours but i am disappointed in some of his comments.. at this stage i'll try to be objective about it.
he is defending his own position after all.. what bothers me most is his comments about athiests and christians which he seems to identify as being in conflict with each other.

Lol Cofty, you're one of the foremost that comes to mind. Your post above mine is exactly what I'm talking about with you talking down about people's "delusions". To think any one of us knows it all is the height of delusion. You can no more prove the existence of God than that God does not exist. It ends up being divisive because instead of trying to have two sides trying to learn and grow from one another they tend to sit as polar opposites and look down upon the other's views as mere rubbish, as you clearly do. I believe in God but question it. I find it hard to find many athiests that will question their athiesm. As long as anyone goes into a conversation with an I'm right and you're wrong mentality, little is ever learned and the tone is condescending and off putting. Sadly that's what most devolves into.
I have a topic I've thought about starting. If I do you're free to reply and I'm open to real open minded discussion if you are.

I avoid talking much about the Bible or God on here because from what I see too many ex-JWs still believe that wherever they land in life is "truth" and everyone else is dead wrong. It is tiring and I have no desire to open a thread about the Bible to have it derailed by pompous atheists anymore than I desire to be pompous and go into athoestic threads and tell them they're dead wrong. I see a large divide even on here and see that divide as a lack of respect for the opinions of others reminiscent of my days as a dub. I'd love to have open, respectful conversations but it isn't possible, and I'm open to Bible criticism. I'm just not open to a-holes, which many ex-Witnesses become for their newfound beliefs. -

Merry Pantsmas Everyone!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inokay, i posted this in a thread that got locked and buried.
since then i've been really busy and have overdosed on christmas music in the past week.
so, i'm resurrecting this "holy day" holiday that most people will unknowingly be celebrating tomorrow.

Why, oh WHYYYYY, have I never heard of this before?! This is a great holiday.
Also, why, oh WHYYYYY, did I watch that stupid Jimmy Fallon video from SNL? I will never get that "tight pants" song out of my head!
Oh, and this site owes Billy an apology for not having the rating system back in the day when he made the original post. That thing is worthy of infinite up-votes. Hilarious.

The Elders are Coming Help!
by LaurenM inso the elders keep bugging me and pestering me about having a meeting with them to "introduce me to my new congregation" for some reason (do any ex elders know what that even means??).
i keep postponing and making excuses and they are getting more and more aggressive.
i finally agreed for them to come over today, but really don't want to..should i hide from them again?

I'm with LisaRose, why do you feel obliged to let them come over and give in to them. You asked "How can I make them go away?". Well, how do you avoid doing anything else you don't want to do? A simple no will do. No is a complete sentence. They say they want to come over, and you say no. They say why, and you don't have to explain yourself. No, I don't want you to. I so hate the JW entitlement to cross boundaries and push themselves into your life. I like the good old, "don't call me, I'll call you". Or just DA like I did and don't have to ever worry about them intruding again. -

We just got back from our first Thanksgiving and it was fantastic. A nice worldly family that we clean for invited us to their family's celebration. Good food, good people, and lots of fun. Well, we did rob a gas station, bow to Satan's altar, kill a homeless person, and by the end of the night it turned into an orgy at the house because we all know that's what "worldly" people do all the time as the Borg told us, but it was a good time. -

Suicide or Real Freedom? - My Story As One Of Jehovah's Witnesses
by dubstepped in"sometimes i think the only thing i could do that wouldn't upset someone would be to kill myself.".
those were the frustrated words of my friend as we stood out in his large yard in the country, just about to enjoy a nice bonfire on a beautiful night.
what was it that could have been a lesser evil than killing himself?

@Diogenesister - Feel free to share my story with anyone that you think it might help or that might help you by reading it. I have put it up on Facebook in one of the groups as well. I hate to think that all that I went through was for nothing, so I'm thrilled that it might help others. And I do know that it wasn't for nothing. I wouldn't be who I am today without some of it, but still it helps to put it out there and know that others appreciate it in some way.
@2+2=5 - Is that a reference to Orwell's 1984? Methinks it is, and I love that. I just bought the audiobook and listened to it at work and wow, it mirrored so much of the JW religion. I just felt like I needed a shower after finishing that book. So reminiscent of life as a dub.

I wish I had something of great impact to say, but all I can offer is my deepest condolences and to let you know not to judge your feelings. Let them be what they'll be. Don't try to control them. I'm so sorry. -

Recent announcement on literature placements
by dbq407 ini find it interesting that the other night they announced that literature is not to be left indiscriminately.
they said to only leave literature if the householder engages you in conversation.
it used to be that they would try to get any literature into every hand of every person.

If they're going to track videos shown I guess that goes to show that they weren't tracking placements all of those years for inventory control as some claimed. That was for people control. So are the proposed changes above.
