@Simon - My point was from the admin of the group chat, that they can't turn your camera on. I can request someone to do it, but I can't turn it on. The average person isn't going to know how to get around measures to turn it on, so your congregation elder won't either. I don't see the grand conspiracy here that many are intimating.

Zoom existed long before the JWs used it. Nobody can follow you with your camera. They can't even force you to turn it on. You can have a static image, your name, hell you can even just call in on your phone using the meeting ID and a phone number.
People will be clumsy with it and that can be funny, or just annoying. But you can turn your video off during the meeting, it's only engaged while in a meeting, you can mute your mic, use a static image, create a background, use a green screen and get creative, use many types of devices, etc.

Happy 20th Birthday to JWD / JWN
by Simon inas sgt pepper sang, "it was 20 years ago today" ... that i made my first post on my first forum.. i obviously didn't put too much thought into what it should say although i must have burned 45 posts testing things and was too lazy to reset the counter before going live (?):.
https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/46/welcome.
but somehow, it worked and grew and here we all are, 20 years on.

Happy birthday and thank you for all of the hard work that goes into this. I know that coding and maintaining the site is enough work, moderating can really take it out of you though. This is the place where I first woke up and now I get to help others do the same and I'll never forget that.
Any idea how many members you've had over the years? That would be an interesting number showing how many have been impacted, even if some were just trolls or what have you. It still made an impact.

2020 Memorial - No Need To Actually Have The Emblems
by pale.emperor inover at jw talk they're saying because they're having to hold the upcoming memorial at home, they dont need to actually have the emblems.
apparently, listening to or watching the talk is the thing that counts.. "do this in rememberence of me" apparently means watching tony morris on your phone give a talk.. this begs the question... "what's the point?
".

Lol, shows how dumb and pointless it is, doesn't it. I wonder how they'll work the present doomsday circumstances into the outline. Please let the speaker go off script and show his ignorance.

Can You Believe This Insanity From Lett!
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara incan you believe this gibberish coming out of their mouths now; specifically from the clown-horse's own mouth :.
"things unfolding around us are making clear that ...(wait for it).."we are living in the final part of the last days, undoubtedly the final part of the final part of the last days, shortly before the last day of the last days"!!!!!!!!!!!!.
i wonder what next...ummmmm...final part of the final part of the final part of the finalpart...(on a recurring loop), you get the idea!.

They've been peddling this same message for a long time. I remember hanging on every word as the speakers would talk about being in the final part of the last days. Then the last hours. Then the last minutes of the last hours. Lett is an imbecile but I can totally believe him saying this. It's just shocking the farther you get from it. He's playing to his audience. They were already there before he said a word.

You can also simply call in to meetings on your phone. You have a number to call and a meeting ID number to call in with. No video at all, audio only. You can turn your video and mic on and off during a normal video call. The admin can turn your mic on and off and stop your video but I don't think they can turn your video on. I don't play with that much. I've muted people that had a lot of background noise. Zoom is pretty cool. I've never had more than 12 or so at a time. I don't know what the screen looks like with so many people at once. There may be settings that I've never needed to explore.

I host online support groups using Zoom each week and use it in my coaching practice. I would pay to see these meetings. People doing all kinds of distracting things on camera, dogs barking or kids making noise, etc. I guess they could shut off everyone's mics and video but if they allow it my guess is that it will be a shit show, at least at first. People will struggle to find the controls on each device, get their mics working, lol. Service drops for people and they drop off and the whole screen rearranges.
This will be great!
At the same time, my prediction has been that eventually they would no longer need buildings and could just have an online cult with occasional meetups for service or conventions, and this could hasten the switch as they get even leaner and amass more wealth.

Should I feel sorry for unprepared jws?
by solomon inthose that discouraged working full time and/or getting some post secondary education and will now feel the pinch because of a tanking economy?.

Sure, I feel sorry for them. How quickly we forget that we were once them. It doesn't mean I'm codependent and obsessed with their feelings, or that I would help them, but I have empathy with the members that have been fooled like I was for so long.
"Should" you? You feel how you feel. Should implies there's one correct standard and you are where you are in your feeling with this and you don't owe anybody anything.

A friend said that in at least some part of Seattle they've stopped meetings and field service. I have no other details, but that's not something I had ever heard of.
