It means the cult is looking for loopholes to protect assets. It's always about protecting their ass-ets. Weaseling out of some sort of responsibility I'm sure.

Do You Ever Wonder Where Are They Now?
by minimus ini remember so many witnesses who were pretty liberal minded.
i knew some that were the ones someone would talk to to get a “balanced “ perspective.
they were not hardliners.

Many liberal JWs stay because they've made the cult what they want it to be rather than what it is. It helps them get by and they feel no reason to leave.

Politics and Hope
by lriddle80 inso there are a lot of atheists on here.
my question: where does your hope come from?
that the right people will be put in political positions and will eventually form a utopian society that will meet all needs and we will have equality for all?.

I'm an atheist and unsure of why I need any sort of hope. Isn't the need for hope a religious value based on a fundamental brokenness and debt to a sky daddy? I see the entire premise of this thread to be lacking. I dont have need for some overreaching hope. I'm happy and living a good life. Many are. Those that aren't can look inward or toward a governmental shift if they truly live somewhere awful. There's a lot of false hope and comfort given by religion.

Election Day Violence?
by Iamallcool indo you think there will be violence on election day tomorrow?
.

I think the media and certain people hope there is. All I hear is fear of the conservatives (white people with guns) while the reality of the violence this year has been all from the other side of the aisle. The news media is stirring the pot and just waiting to live steam all of it.
I think something will happen, there are idiots out there being whipped up, but I don't think it will be a widespread chaos. Like said above, in the end most of it seems to be about stealing and getting free stuff than about anything substantive, at least from those participating thus far.
I just hope whoever wins does so by a large margin without much question.

If a JW becomes inactive is he then labeled as an apostate?
by Pallbearer ini have heard a rumor that if a jw becomes inactive he or she is considered to be an apostate.
is this true?
has anyone here on this forum had such an experience?
-

No. Inactive are not considered apostates. Apostates are one that have left the JW faith, not simply the activity. I and many others were inactive for years and not considered apostates.

Do you think Social Media has been Bad or Good for a peaceful Society.
by pistolpete init does not matter if your political ideology leans to the far left, to the far right, or somewhere in the middle, we are all humans, and as humans, we are not immune to bias.. freeness of speech in the united states gives about 350 million citizens, plus an un-measurable amount of global citizens to say whatever they want and spread any ideology they want on social media, to sway their audiences to their line of thought.. social media is a very powerful platform.
for example facebook has about 2.23 billion monthly active users .
youtube has about 1.9 billion maus.

Life isn't binary and neither is social media. It's both good and bad, like most things.

I'm not an "oldster", at least not old enough to have been watching in the 60's, but I watched reruns when I was a kid in the 80's, maybe in the early 90s as I went into high school years. I just caught it in whatever order I found it and whatever times I got to watch it but I remember it being a good show. I liked the movie too when it came out. Honestly I just remember the overarching story at this point, the one armed man, etc. Looks like quite a commitment to watch all of that but that's a good find.

Have You Changed Your Viewing Habits Regarding Sports and Entertainment?
by minimus indo you still avidly view sports and entertainment?
have you been affected by athletes views on racism, the national anthem, white peoples vs. black?
same question for those in the entertainment industry.

Sports have always been a big part of my life. I'm no longer in a cult and don't need everyone around me to think like me, so although I don't agree with the support given to certain organizations by players or leagues it has no impact on my enjoyment of the game other than minor annoyance that the subject has to come up at all. In fact, I'm going to a college football game this weekend. I agree with those that say we shouldn't take celebrities or athletes seriously when they're espousing their opinions, so I don't, and I just go enjoy the games. I don't look to anyone else for my beliefs, nor do I need them to support them. They play a role in my life, and it is for entertainment.
