Lurkers: Is it true that no servant of Jehovah in the bible celebrated birthdays?

did you know that job's family celebrated birthdays?

the word translated "his own day" at job 1:4 is the same word translated "day of his birth" in job 3:1. .

seems deceptive, does it not, to change that translation.

If I remember from previous research on the topic the days you're referring to seemed to be celebrated in succession, so unless they were each born one day apart it wouldn't make sense. Additionally, if memory serves it was during one of those times where the kids were all killed by a tornado, again even if they were birthdays not a ringing endorsement.

With that said, my wife and I kind of celebrated ours for the first time last year, and nothing happened. We did disassociate a couple weeks following my birthday though. Best gift ever.

maria, who is one of jehovah’s witnesses, was publicly insulted by a prejudiced woman, who caused quite a commotion.

but instead of retaliating, maria calmly continued on her way.

Oh yeah, as kids both my wife and I had parts on assemblies where we were helped to make our stories "more encouraging" by embellishing and exaggerating. I don't buy much of their stories.

since i just signed up and posted a few times without doing this yet, here is my story..

i think that i became a jehovahs witness because of my immaturity.

i had some quirky personality traits, and i joined finding that i fit in because, as i said to myself: these people get me.

Love this thread. You see it so much on here. Too bad those who show their dubness are often not as humble as you. Often they're too lost in their own hype to consider anyone else, just like the dubs. Beautiful experience, thanks for sharing.

hi everybody, 1st post here.

20 years jw, elder for 6 years, regular pioneer for 3 years, have always been following the 2012 candace conti abuse case with much interest, especially since the case suddenly disappeared from www.watchtower.com's news section (thanks brother j. r. brown, office of public information, because it led me to "worldly" websites for more info), leading to more and more dissatisfaction , leading to jwfacts, jwsurvey, ad1914, wtdocuments etc., leading to my awakening about 4 months ago, now fading faster and faster to zero meetings and zero field service...and you know what?

it feels good!.

Are JW's allowed to have close non JW friends?

i am a non-participating christian who is fully respectful of but never had anything to do with jw.. i have a jw friend who seems to closely follow his jw belief's.

i have met most of his family and friends who all are also jw's.

he says i am his only non-jw good friend.. he is getting married this year to his long time gf and with our recent growing more guarded and distant friendship, i am wondering what is going on?.

Witnesses are encouraged "not to become unevenly yoked with unbelievers". Everyone not a JW is an unbeliever to them, regardless of their beliefs. Lots of friendships have been ended over the religion. Heck, lots of families have been destroyed because of it.

Sounds like Prince found the JWs more than the other way around. People with mental disorders often seek out religion. He sounds manic. I hope he finds help. I think getting around the dubs is more a symptom than a cause. I wish him well.

If YOU had to make the decision, would you respect a JW relatives wish to refuse a blood transfusion?

a few years after i quit the meetings my mum needed her medical directive signed and witnessed and she asked if i'd do it.

i was surprised to say the least!.

i think she was just angling to include me and maybe find some lever to get me involved again.

Man, you guys better hope your JW relatives are never put in this position for you with some of your views because you won't be getting a transfusion.

I could not violate someone else's body by forcing anything in it that they expressly objected to.

I am human and have feelings but to think my feelings trump theirs is to go back to the narcissist I formerly was. They are their own person. If my emotions got in the way because I wanted them to live for my own reasons I'd opt out of participation and let their legal documents speak for them.

Mark Zyche - jookbeard VERY NICE. I think however we ALREADY ESATBLISHED that the BAD OLE WBTS is a false prohet..I believe you were going to tell me WHO IS THE RIGHT PROPHET?

Mark, who said there is a right prophet? What if there isn't? What if the Bible isn't even the right book? What if there is no book or no God to begin with? You're starting off with a premise that the Bible is the truth, that there would be a prophet today that would be foretelling things in truth. Can you prove that premise? What if all religions are false prophets at best?

the primary purpose of this letter is to pave the way for a limited relationship.

i want to invite them to my son's celebration for finishing his leukemia treatment.

The second paragraph (of the letter she included) gets to asking them to read its entirety. I love that letter and everyone else seems to as well. Who knows, maybe you read it and find a tip that helps you in yours. Worth a look.

I like it. I could go back and forth on some things as to whether they should be said or not, and although I love this letter and the long one just posted to another family on here, I'm always left to wonder if short and sweet wouldn't be better. Unfortunately, the situations are so complicated I don't think that short and sweet cuts it. Perhaps you could borrow the line from the other letter that basically asks them up front to be sure to read to the end because this is such an important piece of correspondence that impacts people's real lives. I liked how that really put the perspective out there first that this isn't some petty thing to be dealt with lightly, this is a big deal, so please give it proper attention.

I wish you the best. I'm happy that it sounds like your son is doing well, though I don't know the story. I wish the best for you all. It sounds like you're good parents and you should be proud. Whatever happens with the rest of the family is on them.
