That was awesome! Well written summaries of the crazy. Thanks for that. It lightened a tough day for me and made me laugh. I'm sorry you're stuck for now, but sometimes laughter is truly the best medicine.

Never Thought I'd Say This, But I've Found Something to Look Forward to in the Meetings
by Sorry inmy therapist inspired me to start looking on the bright side.
even though i've pretty much given up listening to the bs and usually tune out the meeting by playing on my phone/tablet, i find the local needs talk oddly fascinating.
probably because it's the only part that doesn't seem outlined to death (at least at our hall), and you truly don't know what you get.

Cirencester Congregation UK: My story
by erbie indear all,.
i have been a member here for some years although mostly in the background.
many of you have bravely shared your own experiences and i am very grateful for that but i have never been open about my own experience.. nevertheless, i would be very grateful to those of you who would now take the time to read about my own personal journey from the jw religion and the circumstances that caused me to abandon that way of life and how i landed up where i am.

I think it's great that you finally shared your story. To me that's the beginning of healing. I'm so sorry you went through that. The good news is that you're awake now and can find a life authentic to you rather than by default. Things are looking up Erbie.

Indoctrination or insistence on being right?
by OutsiderLookingIn innobody likes to be wrong.
so after being taught that they have "the truth" for so long, is it that jws just don't want to admit that they are wrong so they'll keep going in the same direction rather than reversing course?
this is different from indoctrination when you truly believe what you're saying.

I think it begins as indoctrination, pure indoctrination. Over the years people are given chances to see that it's wrong and then they're so invested that cognitive dissonance kicks in and all of the thought stopping techniques taught by the cult kick in. They are blind to it. Over a longer period those chances to see that they're wrong combine to form a moment of awakening. It is in that moment where people now see it as wrong, and only then is it a matter of wanting to be right, and whether they'll come down on the side of real truth or "the truth".

Dude, quitting isn't failing. Successful people quit things that aren't working and find those that do work for them. This clearly isn't working, and you can cut your losses and go find something that works and will be a success. Hitching your wagon to a bus heading for crazy town will result in failure and lots of years lost that you can never get back. I know. I was a JW for three decades because my parents hitched out family wagon to a bus called a cult that lead us to crazy town. Damn I wish they had made different decisions back then. It destroyed our family and wasted 30 years of my life. I'm glad to hear that you're not signing up for that heartache.

JWs don't test to show that outsiders are evil, they just believe it. It's kind of hard to tell what actually happened from that last post that was clear as mud, but she sounds batshit crazy on top of the cult stuff. I feel for her, as she needs help, but at this point trying to analyze everything she does is a lost cause and waste of energy.

You Can Encourage An Inactive Christian!
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu inhttps://www.jw.org/en/publications/jw-meeting-workbook/april-2017-mwb/meeting-schedule-apr10-16/encourage-inactive-christian/.
this is part of the clam meeting this week.. how contradictory is it?.
first, they instruct people to avoid inactive ones and to shun them and to treat them the same as da'd or df'd ones, .

I don't think they ever made a blanket statement to shun inactive ones in the first place. They said to avoid inactive ones that lead an immoral life that would be disfellowshipped if they were in the congregation. People ran with that as though they said to shun all inactive ones. Inactive ones are not all equal in their eyes.

She's a super damaged person in a cult. People here can't get their spouses out. People lose their entire families. Don't underestimate what you're up against. The cult alone is devastating. This girl will likely always be attracted to it. She's damaged and it offers denial and false hope that will be in the back of her mind until she gets healthy, and that's not likely with her current trajectory.

I think it is easy to confuse wanting to save someone with loving them. If you take away your feelings about what she could be and focus on what she is, I think you'll see that you don't love her, you love a version of her that just isn't reality. You have invested a lot, which makes it hard to walk away from. Kind of like how she has an investment in the JWs that she struggles to fully walk away from. If you met her today and had a crystal ball that showed you this future you'd run, but you're in it now and rationalizing the future. You need to do a sunk cost analysis. Look at it with fresh eyes. You met her for the first time today. Would you pursue this. I doubt it.

Go bags?
by punkofnice ini heard recently that there was a talk given at the kh about having a 'go bag' ready because the big 'a' must be soooo close as evidenced by syria and the russian jobo thing.. does anyone know if this 'go bag' thing is substantiated in publications or just a local nut job being paranoid and attention seeking?.
i also wonder about this 'go bag' thing, apparently, you need to make sure your biscuits (that's cookies to my over the pond friends), are not out of date.
don't carry water, it's too heavy.. too many questions do i have.

What I liked was the way that the Borganization acted like they created the idea of go-bags in the first place. I remember people in congregations freaking out about them. My wife and I have one each. It took a few years but I put some together. It's not a bad idea and is endorsed by various governmental agencies. Where I live tornadoes are a possibility, and if disaster struck it would be nice to have some kind of supplies, in a backpack or otherwise. I don't like relying on anyone anyway, and like to camp and such, so it wasn't a waste. But I don't think it was ever an Armageddon preparedness situation other than what people ran with it, which shows the mentality of those that did so. I remember looking it up and seeing that it was a good idea in certain situations and a town was devastated north of us in a tornado, so I figured why not. I actually had fun putting it all together.

Maddox v Integro USA, Inc, et al
by Richard Oliver ini know that this is old but going through and posting about every lawsuit that i can find in this decade with watchtower either good or bad if it has not already been posted.
this lawsuit was brought in the federal district court for the eastern district of louisana.
it involves a family whose mother had died at a district convention in 2011. the mother, patsy, was descending stairs at the convention which was held at the mitchell center in mobile, alabama when she fell and was fatally injured.

I agree that it's an issue that the dubs are so broken up. It's a move to displace responsibility and funds in such a way that their liability is limited, and it is disgusting. They did all kinds of this in Australia from what I understand so that they don't have to pay for anything. It probably is legal though. It just shows that the dubs have no ethics and morals and only care about protecting that almighty dollar, their real savior. That is concerning, but nothing new. That isn't necessarily what the thread was about either. I get the issues with it though.
