I can really feel your pain in the words of your original post, and I'm very sorry that you're facing this. I wish there were some wise words to make you feel better, but all I can muster is to let you know that people here care and that we're all sorry about this. It was a fear that so many of us had, or still have.

akid, one thing you have to realize is that the people teaching this to you like your aunt have been lie to also, they just can't see it. Try to have some compassion for them. You are clearly a smart young man to catch on to this. Those other people aren't stupid, they've just gone so far down a path and have so much to lose that they are blind to the actual truth. You haven't gone down that path yet, so it isn't as big of a deal to you.
Myself, I was 38 when I woke up to what was really going on. Some wake up very late in life.
Your skills at asking questions will serve you well in life. Be curious, but also be willing to challenge things to see if they hold up. Challenge yourself too. Sometimes it is uncomfortable to do so. It hurt me a lot to challenge my JW beliefs that I held for so long. But it was worth it for me. I'm not sure that everyone has what it takes to do that. Humans are very complicated.

7Okay then, it sounds like there are repercussions. It sounds like your aunt is a JW and so is your big brother, am I right? Oh boy, I don't know how to advise you, but JWfacts is a great site. Unfortunately though, it may not go well for you if your aunt knows that you're looking at stuff from ex-JWs. I seriously doubt that you can open their eyes and have honest discussions about it because they believe it.
You're in a tough place. You should have to face this at 13. I'm sorry, but honestly I don't know what to tell you because none of us knows your situation well at all or the people that you're dealing with.
If you have to go along with things, I guess you have no choice. Just don't get baptized. If you do, there are more severe consequences if you leave someday. The rest is a game you have to play.

Cool then. So if you stop studying there are no repercussions, right? Or is your aunt a JW? If so, drop it like it's hot and just tell him you don't want to study. You will save yourself a lot of heartache. You've had enough with your parents dying when you were so young. I'm so sorry. Just know that JWs are a cult and they will shun you someday and you will lose everyone again if you become one and change your mind.
You deserve better than them.

We need to know who is studying with you and the circumstances around that before telling you to refuse study. For all we know it's your parents, as you're just 13.
Read JWfacts.com as a place to start. If you have specific questions ask here. If you stick around and read you'll learn a lot.

Nice video outlining the realities of life as a JW, not the doctrines, but the life. I can identify with a lot of what you talked about, particularly that father that was one way at home and giving talks about happy family life at the KH. I'm telling my story on my podcast and am glad that you're sharing yours on the videos and I hope more people will share their stories. That is the kind of stuff that people that are not and have never been JWs can take in and really use to inoculate themselves and others against the cult. The human interest story of it all is fascinating, entertaining, and something that others can identify with that were never even in it.

Thanks Simon. I've had Wordpress sites for a long time without any issue, though none are really that big or involved. I do know that things are really evolving though and it may be antiquated at some point. I've never heard of Jekyll or Hugo but after a quick Google search they look interesting. It sounds like you've really gone deep into these things, or maybe I'm just easy to impress.
Libsyn released an update for their updated plugin for me to try. I guess I'll give it a go and see what happens. If it shuts it down again I know how to fix it with relative ease.

Awesome, though I'm sorry. We disasaociated and it was so freeing. Just realize that you can't un-ring that bell, so look at your circimstanes and see what is right for you. If you have no family in, and want to do it, blow it up. If you have family, don't be impulsive. Just make sure you know what you're doing. I personally wish more would take a stand and disassociate and make the membership feel that discomfort, but realize most won't. We intended to fade but refused to play their games.

I thought it was pretty clear that the woman was dfed for leaving an abusive relationship, which happens. I also thought it was clear that the guy was dfed for more than missing a Memorial, but because he questioned the faith and his wife turned him in. I liked the article. I realize that JWs will minimize things, but they always do that.
