Oh, something else to consider depending on what you're selling is how are you going to get traffic to the site? If you aren't well versed in SEO or paid ads online or you don't have some sort of offline marketing strategy to drive traffic then you might build a website for nothing. Again, depending on what you're talking about here, it might behoove you to forego a website and build a following on an existing platform like eBay, Amazon, etsy, etc. Or if you wanted to do something like t-shirts there are sites where you can design online and sell through them without having to touch anything.

I've built sites but not e-commerce sites. Wordpress is great and my builder of choice, but honestly if you know little to nothing I think you'd do better starting off somewhere like Squarespace. They have everything in one package with customer support. Wordpress has so many ways to customize it, but it's like piecing together a bunch of cobbled together things to try to make things work and you're more on your own (though there are lots of video tutorials and sites out there to help).

Celebrations?
by Freedom rocks indoes anyone celebrate valentines day since leaving the borg?

The cult freedom day is what we call our "shunniversary".
The first year I tried to get a bunch of local exjws together and it bombed. Only one showed up.
Last year I started the "shunned" podcast on my second Shunniversary.
Aside from that, we don't do Valentines Day because my wife hates how forced and all about women it is.
We do the rest though. We love Halloween, Thanksgiving, have a very secular Christmas, New Years, even fireworks on the 4th of July. A friend has an adult Easter egg hunt and we did that last year. Have fun and enjoy these little things to look forward to throughout the year.

Episode 7 - Part 2 - Sexual Abuse and Jehovah's Witnesses - David's StoryTrigger Warning: Sexual Abuse DiscussionIn Part 2 you will learn more about Steve B. and his interactions with David. You will see how relationships impacted David, both for the good and the bad as years went by. You will see how the “loving spiritual shepherds”, the elders in the congregations, treat those that are shunned and trying to come back to their flock. You will learn about David’s eventual path out of the cult of Jehovah’s Witnesses and his new life as he is shunned. This episode is intense and raw and real, and I thank David for being so vulnerable and putting the truth out there even though it isn't easy to do. It helps others to realize that they are not alone.Listen on iTunes (Apple Podcasts), Google Play, wherever you get podcasts, or at shunnedpodcast.com. That ^^^^^^ was a nice place, though it bothered me at first to find out that it was a former church.

Hi fellow Hoosier!!!
Wow, that's crazy. I remember them selling the assembly hall in Indy and the promises of a new one in Cincy. Lmao at all of the sheeple donating money to protect pedophiles, errr.... I mean bring glory to Jehovah with their valuable things.
Didn't they make everyone make a pledge to donate some amount chosen by each family to this? Lol, they expect you to live up to yours but they can change their end. I thought Jehovah didn't change. Idiots.

It's my fault. After all of these years as a JW, scraping by and not preparing for my future, I finally decided to invest for us in January into index funds in a Roth IRA so that we could retire someday and not have to eat dog food. My bad markets, I didn't mean to drag you down.

I struggle with this one aspect more than anything. I was given a sense of permanence for 38 years and now find out it's all bullshit.
When my mind gets quiet, right before I fall asleep, is when I'll start ruminating.
I like the Twain comment that DoC posted. I'm not afraid of being dead though. I'm afraid of not being alive anymore. In business they refer to it as FOMO, fear of missing out. I have that in spades.
I was telling me wife the way I see things today. I know the destination. It's Siberia. I don't want to go to Siberia but I have to. Sure, along the journey there I'll try to have fun, try to delay, but I know how the story ends and it's not what I want. It looms large.
I'm at least determined to make sure that I live now. What's worse is not living while you're alive. I want to look back and smile on my deathbed because I did what I could to make meaning in all of this.

DF’d or DA???
by DATA-DOG inso, i think i’m going to be df’d, but elders are out of town and no decision has been officially reached.
what would happen if i sent a certified overnight letter and said that i was going to disassociate before they have their meeting??.
i know the two conditions are similar, but i’m just curious... dd.

Oh, my bad, I can see how I took that one way and could have read it another. Makes sense.
Yeah, if you DA you have to know what's up. There will be no association, thus the dis- in DA. I literally just found out by accident at the bank where my mom lives now because my deceased dad and I share a name. I didn't know where she lived anymore. I knew what was up when making my decision.

@DoC - I didn't know you DA'd. I thought you faded. Cool.
I think it depends on the elders. Most I knew kind of got off on their power, but I'm sure that some hated having to disfellowship people. DAing certainly gives one more power though than being DF'd and in the end it should be about you and what you want. So many here are worried about them. It kind of shows the power they have that people are so worried about how they are perceived by the dubs. Just take care of you.
It's kind of the first time you get to take a stand for yourself, something you'll need as you begin a new life of living for you instead of the cult.
