How many more years do you think you have left to live?
by JH in.
since i'm relatively healthy, don't smoke, hardly drink (2 beers a day), and if i base myself on my grandparents and parents age, i think that i should live up to anywhere between 85 and 95. which means i should have another 40 to 50 years of posting here.

"would we not all make the changes in order to grow older ? Like diet and not smoking etc....."
Uhhhhhh ... no. It ain't about the destination, man. It all ends in a six foot deep hole. It's about the fun you have along the way. -

So whats the longest road trip youve been on? or farthest you've driven?
by doodle-v inwe just got back from spending two weeks in denver, co. call us crazy (yeah i dont know what the hell we were thinking) but we decided to drive.
from seattle to denver and back is over 3,000 miles.
we had both kids and a crap load of stuff.

Dams, that one takes the prize, I think.
I like road trips. We drive from Indiana to Texas about every year. I think it's a 2600 mile round trip to Mom's. And we go to Florida at least once a year. That one is around 2000 miles, once you factor in the side runs to friends & beaches & parks & such.
The thing that bugs me a bit is the 'either/or' choice we have to make when we hit the road. I like buzzing down the Interstates at 80, but when you pull off at an exit for a meal ... it's the same crap we left behind. Fast food chains, casual dining chains, hotel chains ... there's little differentiation along the highways these days. Not like there was when I was a little kid, anyway. The alternative is to take state & US highways, which lends a more scenic route & bit more variety to the trip, but at the cost of time on the road. The sensible choice for us is to pick an interesting destination, get there as quickly as we can, and enjoy the unique character of our vacation spot. -

Were you ever a victim of the "JW STARE"?
by doodle-v inyou know what i'm talking about... .
for instance, if you go to a meeting and haven't been there for ages.
your stand up during the song and suddenly what seems like the whole cong gets afflicted with the jw stare.

"Were you ever a victim of the STARE? When, and did you do anything?"
Sure. I checked to make sure my fly was zipped. -

Hard to say. I could get hit by a truck tomorrow.
On one hand, there's one grandmother who died in the 1920s from tuberculosis. On the other hand is my other grandmother who lived to 96. Mom just turned 80 & is still going strong. Both grandfathers lived to 80, and Dad made it into his 70s. I figure that at 40, I should have at least another 40 years left.
My plan is to follow the George Burns life model ... drinking & smoking cigars & chasing women until I'm 100. That gives me another 60 years. -

Why on earth do they need all those books?
by Lady Lee inyes i know the standard answer - they want to sell books but hang on a minute.. .
something that has always bothered me is that the average jw is incapable of explaining some of the most basic teachings without a wt book in hand.
after all those years, all that time, all those meetings, why is it so hard to understand and teach to someone else?
