"If guns grew on trees or rather on cocoa plants"
Cocoa plants? Dude, you're confusing this with the War on Chocolate. *LOL*
"The number manufactured could be tightly regulated so that ONLY the number manufactured in the first place would be what was absolutely needed by the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement."
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The men who developed our Constitution knew this, and knew what it was like to have the power concentrated in a few hands based on military strength. That's why they made sure that the citizens had the right to bear arms.

"Very very few feel comfortable with private ownershgip of fully automatic, large caliber, concealed or night vision weapons."
I'd have to research the night vision angle, but I know that fully automatic weapons have been illegal for private ownership in the U.S. for decades, and I'm confortable with that. I'm also quite confortable with the licensing in our 'right to carry' states for concealed weapons.
I'm curious, though: how are you defining "large caliber"? Is that anything bigger than a .22? Bigger than a .44? Bigger than a 20 mm anti-aircraft gun?
"The present Administration represents and caters to this minority view."
Actually, I'd say that the Clinton administration and Senators like Kennedy & Feinstein are the ones catering to minority views about gun ownership. Perhaps you've willingly thrown away your rights, but the majority of americans have not.
"You would teach your child how to handle a gun at 7 or 8?"
Yep. I'm not suggesting that a 7 year old is ready to pack a .357 next to the peanut butter sandwich in his Scooby Doo lunchbox, but kids need to learn more about responsible gun ownership than what they see on TV & in movies (or, sadly, more than most parents teach them).
We even work a lot of 7 year olds through a BB gun program in Cub Scouts. They learn to safely handle the weapon & begin learning marksmanship. The principles of safety & awareness of your target easily carry over to firearms. Scouting guidelines restrict rifles, shutguns, and muzzleloaders to Boy Scouts; the boys in our Cub Scout pack will have to wait until they're about 11 before they can handle those weapons in a Scout sanctioned activity. -

"But I think telling a 7 or 8 year old about a gun and how it's a no no, would only stoke their curiousity and possibly lead to an accident. "
That's why you don't tell them that a gun is a no-no. You teach them to handle one responsibly and to shoot accurately. -

I understand, Evil Force. Your concern is something I hear from time to time about having guns in the house with kids around. Personally, I think it's an opportunity to teach the kids about responsible behavior.

Cholesterol and heart disease myth or reality?
by greendawn infor the last 40 years the idea that cholesterol (and saturated fats) clog up the arteries and cause heart disease has predominated yet hundreds of scientists and doctors now doubt whether this is indeed the case e.g.
half the people that suffer heart attacks have ?normal?
cholesterol levels.

I have doubted the cholesterol risks for a long time. I always thought about my grandfathers, who ate sausages and eggs and ham and other fat & cholesterol rich foods, and who lived to their 80s. And my mother just turned 80 this week, still enjoying her eggs & biscuits & gravy in the morning.
Mac has the right idea: eat your veggies. I hate to think of not eating those BBQ ribs & the dirty rice last night. I just make sure that I eat lots of fruits & vegetables in addition to the pork & beef & eggs & butter & whole milk & ...

"I'm sure most Dub's aren't advocating to the elders that they would shoot someone dead if they broke into the house, but I'm sure some feel this way. "
My dad always said he would NOT shoot to kill if there was an intruder in the house. His philosohphy was "shoot to maim. Aim for the kneecap so they walk with a limp for the rest of their life." -

The Only True Church
by danielweatherlee in.
does god have a true church on the earth today?yes, and i will reveal it.it is the free will baptist church, which is true in every sense.they preach jesus, they study god's word correctly and rightly divide the word of truth.they are not led by a distant leader, they are led by their local leader chosen by god.if the sign out front doesn't say free will baptist then you are in the wrong church.look for that sign, and then you've found the right church.

Do U Drive @ 55?
by prophecor inwho among us here, when on the freeway does the standard speed of 55mph.
i'd like to say that i'm a law abiding citizen, however......
it's a wonderful thing that many folks wish to follow the rules of the road but you people who don't keep it rolling with the rest of the crowd at 65-70mph are risking a catastrophe.

"Is it me, or do the Police seem pretty tollerant of those who don't over-do it, say 65-70mph?"
Our local newspaper publishes a daily list of all traffic citations. Yeah, I know ... there's not much "news" around here. I've never seen a citation listed for anything less than 10 MPH over the limit. I've also been told by an Indiana State Police officer that this is their official 'unofficial' policy.
If the speed limit is 55, I usually set the cruise control at 64 or 65 around here. And as others have said, if the traffic is moving faster, so do I ... kinda like being on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago. The speed limit is 45 just south of downtown, but if traffic is going 75 ... then so am I. And the cops will not stop you on the Dan Ryan because they don't want to impede the flow of traffic. -

The only time I've heard of this was in a Jackie Chan movie ... I think it was in "Who Am I?"

"That my unbelieving husband was growing/selling pot."
Given the way they treat reports of child abuse, sexual abuse, and other criminal activities, I hope the elders were smart enough to not phone the cops unless you had a second witness to this alleged marijuana.
