  How long did it take you to get rid of your jw magazines?

  i have seen post on the forum of persons wondering what to do with their jw magazines now that they feel they are no longer needed.

  how long did it take you to feel secure enough to get rid of them and why do some feel the insecurity to keep them, even knowing they have no intention of ever going back ?

  How did you feel when you disgarded those book's and mag's, did it bother you?,,,,,,Or was it a relief that you were free of them and the org?

  I am interested in this question as well. My boyfriend asked me when we can get rid of my JW books because he wants the container they are in. I am not sure why I am still holding on to them. Sentimental value? Maybe because I was brainwashed in to thinking I will never be completely free of the organization?

  I just started to read the Crisis of Conscience book and I am can already tell that by the time I finish the book, my old JW stuff will probably be history. I may recycle some items, but the stuff with my little "study" notations I do not want out there.

  A Visit from the Dubs

  so my teenage daughter called me while i was at lunch today to say that two jws just came to our door.

  "they left me with a bunch of crap".

  they asked her if she knew about jws and she told them that her grandparents were jws and of course they had to ask where they lived, blah, blah, blah.

  So my teenage daughter called me while I was at lunch today to say that two JWs just came to our door. She said. . . "they left me with a bunch of crap". They asked her if she knew about JWs and she told them that her grandparents were JWs and of course they had to ask where they lived, blah, blah, blah. Then my daughter, who has an argumentative side, asked them why they don't allow gay people to be JWs. They said that gay people could attend meetings, but they aren't allowed to pray in public or have any positions in the hall. (Um, OHKAY -- what is up with that response). I asked her if she told them her name and she said "yes". And I told her that they will be back.

  But the best part was this -- they are building a new KH just down the street from me. Yay (sarcasm intended).

  How Many Here Are "Technically" Still JWs???... Who's Not??

  what i mean is according to the society, there are a number of persons that are "technically" "inactive" yet are viewed as jws still.

  i'm sure that i'm viewed as a witness still because i am not df'd or disassociated.....what about you??

  I have not been df'd, and I have not da'd myself. To each their own, but for me, doing so would be allowing the WTS to have some sort of control over me.

  That sums up how I feel perfectly. I guess I am "technically" inactive -- but in my heart I am no longer a JW.

  I walked away when the elders came knocking on my door. They were not persistent in coming after me. I assume my card is still there, but I could really care less.

  The elder that was "after me" saw my best friend (also inactive) at a party and he steered clear away from her. Guess he doesn't want to know what is going on in our lives. Whatever!

  Here it is after midnight and I cannot sleep. My boyfriend (of 2 years) is still hashing out custody issues in court with his ex. BF does not have an attorney. I work for attorneys and I help him put his paperwork together, etc. There is a court hearing this week that he has brought against her.

  His ex played dirty by filing and serving supplemental papers (late) when she knew we were on vacation. The service is defective. In any event, there are the outstanding issues to be worked out (mother has physical custody has shacked up with a guy who has a domestic violence history AND they live in a motel) and I cannot sleep because I have all the arguments running through my head. My brain is racing like crazy. It keeps my boyfriend up too, but he manages to fall asleep and wake up at 4 a.m. thinking about things. Things are a gamble when you go to court.

  I guess i am a bit of a control freak and I like to know if I am coming or going with money/visitation issues, etc. I have to wait for this hearing and I am having a hard time doing so.

  Anyone else ever deal with issues like this in a relationship? I am totally committed to this man and I realize that I am accepting all the baggage that he comes with. I was just wondering if there were any "coping mechanisms" that anyone could share that has possibly gone through this in the past.

  Do your acquaintances know you?re a JW (or former witness)?

  i remember deliberately not telling people when i was growing up, and cringing when my mom made an effort to tell my teachers.

  although i no longer hide it, there are still people i consider friends who do not know i grew up jw.

  sometimes it?s just that the subject of religion does not come up often, and when it does, it would be weird to say something now after i?ve known someone for years and have never mentioned it.

  Sometimes. I guess it depends on my mood and my comfort level.. I recently told my hairdresser that I used to be part of a "very strict" religion and it turns out her husband was a JW has been DF'd for 20 years now and still has issues with it. I was glad I was able to talk about my past life with someone who had "a clue".

  Home Alone

  here i am home alone........ my hubby works out of town from time to time...it never fails, how even though i am dead tired..i get in bed and think i "hear" something or "see" something....geez...you would think i was 10...scared to death...lol.

  i guess i just don't like being in an empty house...does anyone here really like being alone at night???.

  Codeblue -- This post is very appropriate for me today. My boyfriend has been out of town for the past two nights (I am meeting him tonight so all will be good). When he is there I sleep perfectly sound. When he is not home I am a raving lunatic. I have to check ALL the locks at least three times (yes, I know it is a bit OCD). I have a teenage daughter AND a big dog -- yet I have to be the adult and pretend everything is good while my insides are freaking out. I hear every noise. Tylenol PM helps me get some sleep.

  Last night at about 2:30 in the morning I heard this loud crashing sound in my bathroom (which is in my room). My adrenaline immediately kicked in. Turned out it was the holder for my razor -- the suction cup came loose and the whole thing fell into the tub. But of course I had to turn on every light before I went into the bathroom.

  Don't know what it is with me -- I lived alone (with my child) for 10 years.

  Do you believe in God?

  after reading the wt for last week's lesson on god's creative works i couldnt help but think that there really is a god, there has to be.

  i dont want to start a creation vs. evolution debate but you have to agree that its an extremely remote chance that the whole universe, the planets, stars, the sun, the earth, the animals, humans came about by accident.

  i mean, what the chances really.

  Yes, I do struggle with belief in God. I do not know what to believe anymore. I have the hardest time understanding why there is so much suffering in the world. The JWs answer of (universal soverignty) just doesn't cut it with me. That makes no sense. I could never let my child suffer just for the sake of others watching and wondering what I will do.

  I no longer pray and I have no desire to look into other religions to "define" god for me.
