I guess because as a JW one is supposed to know better.

.....that when a worldly person wants to join the wts, but is living a sinful life.....the witnesses go out of their way to lovingly help him out of his life of sin.
but, when a jw (one of their own) commits a sin against jehovah...that person is disfellowshipped.
case closed.....no love, no care,....just cast out.
I guess because as a JW one is supposed to know better.

I got: LIBERTARIAN
I am not surprised, however I find it entertaining as I work for the government.

as holiday time approaches, many of us ex dubs have mixed feeling going on in our head.. are you happy and excited because now you can celebrate the holidays with family (maybe) and friends, or are you depressed or just ambivialent about the whole thing?.
it took my a few years just to feel comfortable wishing someone a happy holiday, and a few more years before i actually celebrated a holiday.. now i celebrate every holiday, and i am always excited about the event, although i don't place any spiritually/religious meaning towards the event and i just enjoy the chance to socialize with family and friends.. what about you?.
I don't place any religious/spiritual relevance to the holidays either. For me it is just about time I spend with my family and about giving. It gives me much joy to see my daughter try to figure out what is under the tree for her -- even though she is almost an adult (technically). This will be my 4th year of having a tree, and I always feel a bit strange at first -- but I quickly get past that.
Last year we hit Target the day after christmas and we have so much crap to put on our front lawn, I am not sure there is enough room.
Happy Holidays pratt1!

i recently attended the witness funeral of a sister who lost her mother.
she lived to a good age.. most of the congregation were there.. if the truth be told, it was one of the most disrespectful funerals i have ever been too.
no one did anything wrong, but everyone was happy - a little too happy.. it was just another meeting to the dubs who attended.
It was just another meeting to the dubs who attended. There was little said about the life of the deceased. The rest was an infomercial for the resurrection hope.
I just saw an old friend who was raised as a JW, but faded when he graduated from high school (20+ years ago). Recently a family member died and they had the "memorial" just last week. I asked him about it and he got this look of disgust on his face and said all he heard was a bunch of bull sh*t -- very, very little about the deceased -- just what the deceased believed in. He said they must have looked up 50 scriptures in a time period of 45 minutes.
Nothing has changed over the years -- and you are right truthseeker -- it is just another meeting. It is so very sad.

it's your decision to make.
it would be as wrong of this community to insist everyone donate blood as it is of the cult to insist otherwise.
.
It is a good thought and I have thought of it before. My husband is an avid blood donor, as was his father (whose name is on a plaque in a local blood bank for all the gallons of blood he has given over the years). My daughter wanted to give blood and I am open to that. I can't really say why I don't donate. I guess it is another hurdle for me to overcome.

as you can tell i love christmas and it's less than a month away, a lot of people start to shop for gifts next week, so i want to know what's on your wishlist this year, anyone wanna share?.
lola.
So nephew is sitting there at the kitchen table with his bagel in hand when Simon took a flying leap and grabbed onto his bagel and wouldn't let go. It was the funniest thing I ever saw. From that day forward he has been known as Simon Silverberg the Jewish cat.
LOL. I love it. Thanks for telling the story.
On another note, I foster kittens (both with a mother and sometimes mother-less) and we are always told not to feed them cow's milk. Obviously if that is the only choice, they will survive as your story clearly states. Sounds like Simon is a trooper -- thank you for providing him with a good home.

Oh, and he's Jewish so I had to go buy a Menorah for him. (long story).
Okay, I gotta know -- how is your cat Jewish?

ok, can anyone tell me why this works?
this is so freakin' cool.
do the test as it is instructed...don't cheat.
Well I thought of a "red hammer" and that was after using a calculator to add all those numbers up. I think I thought "hammer" because I wanted to slam my head with one after doing all that math!

just thinking about a song that we used to sing at the kh....cannot remember the name of the song, but it was quite popular at the assemblies.. the questionable lyrics were, "fear not those who kill the body, but cannot destroy the soul" it continues on with "to the end continue faithful, i will take you to your goal".. this was from the old songbook (remember, the purple one).
has the wt$ changed the lyrics to this song?
do they sing it anymore?
faithful to the end continue
I will help you reach your goal. . .

if you had the choice, when you were an active good jw, would you have prefered to work with a jw in your work place or not to have any around ?.
.
.
When I was an active JW, I worked with a JW friend. She was part time, whereas I was full time. And I was fine with that. During our 30 minute commute, we used to test ourselves on the written review questions. I was such a dork as I used to love written review -- maybe because it was so easy!
I currently work at a place where another JW works. She is in a separate office, so I don't see her often, but whenever I do she is so sweet and kind -- I think that is just her personality. We have mutual friends and she NEVER asks about my status. I appreciate that about her.
