Why Did El Shaddai become Jehovah? Attention Leolaia
by jst2laws indear leolaia
from reading your research, which is wonderful, i'm confused about what moses was trying to say in exodus.
and god went on to speak to moses and to say to him: ?i am jehovah.

Necromancy and the god Wada'anu/Addu
by Leolaia inaccording to leviticus 20:27, "any man or woman who has a ghost ('wb) or who has a familiar spirit (yd'ny) will be put to death".
the law in deuteronomy 18:11 also commands the israelites to not "consult ghosts (ws'l 'wb) nor familiar spirits (wyd'ny), nor attempt to communicate with the dead (wdrs 'l-hmtym)".
in 1 samuel 28:7-13, the spirit medium of en-dor "consulted ghosts ('wb)".

by ikthuce4u inmy real name is "rick" and i'm new here.
i normally post at beliefnet.com and was referred here (from there) to a particular thread, on a topic i was interested in.
i'm having some posting-problems here ... basically, i'm unable to get into "chat" and tried to send a message to someone who had been posting on that topic i was interested in (but it didn't "go" for some reason).

ps- I logged-out to quick for my Message to go. Btw, I live in Ohio but wouldn't describe myself as a cowboy. My cousin's son rides bulls for a hobby though (ouch!) ... he falls off a lot. I prefer books as a pastime. An Ohio Bookboy, as it were ....

I'm just "in" from my regular web-hangout -- Beliefnet.com. Thanks for the warm welcomes and the advice about the sending-a-message (sees-it-clearly-now). Like I said, I mainly came here just to learn stuff. Hope to see y'all around sometime soon, rick (my real name, did I mention?)

I suppose I should say at least a little something about myself. I am a Christian who has been called a "fundy" (by more liberal or "progressive" Christians) ... and have been deemed a "liberal" by the fundamentalists. (Go figure). I joined this forum to discuss topics relating to "The Bible and Archaeology" ... and have no interest in "debating" with Jehovah's Witnesses on whatever the differences may be of their (or perhaps, "your") beliefs and my own. I only came here to learn. Thanks, some more!

The Bible and the Canaanite "Book of Balaam bar-Beor" (8th century B.C.)
by Leolaia inin earlier posts, i have described how heroes, kings, and other legendary characters from canaanite lore were incorporated in the ot either through direct allusion or exaptation as literary characters in new distinctively israelite stories.
the legend of danel, the father of aqhat, is directly mentioned in ezekiel 14:12-20, 28:1-3 and was likely reused as source material in the cycles of legends about the righteous judge job, the young warrior david, and the prophet elisha (cf.
the legends surrounding the rephaim kings revered in bashan and who the canaanite leaders regarded as their ancestors contributed to the biblical stories about the mighty nephilim and rephaim warriors and the giant og, king of bashan (cf.
