been in a hotel all week going to a cisco school.
i've eaten at outback steakhouse, uno and olive garden.
confused...we used to go to our district conventions at the Portland Civic Center and there were some great restaraunts in that area. I can't for the life of me remember the names, but there is a great brew pub a block away from the Civic Center and some really good local places that are excellent. Just go to the Civic Center and walk around the block and you will bump in to a bunch of choices. I like the Outback, but nothing beats a good ol' brew pub or local cuisine. Have fun!

there have been a lot of christian threads lately, so i thought that i would open a topic for other journeys.
because there is no way i will ever be a christian again because the curtain has been opened and i can see behind it, however i have an open mind and have started some meditation practices.
i have been thinking about visiting a buddhist temple out of curiosity.

Parakeet hit on some points that I concur with, however I understand where you are coming from. I think that after you trust a belief, or an organization, as much as we did it does not make one anxious to run into just another framework of belief. I think, however, that that is the beauty of eastern philosophy. Not all of them require a belief in a God or Gods and I think that there is much to glean from the philosophy without jumping into believing in an invisible being pulling strings. I think for me the problem is that I am tired of the Christian view of the world and morals. I find it all so hypocritical and impossible to believe. One thing I do know is that I will never suspend my common sense, nor my healthy dose of cynicism, again. Fool me once shame on you...fool me twice shame on me.

You have made a huge assumption, and an incorrect one at that. I have not swapped anything for anything yet and I never mentioned reincarnation, although that is certainly one journey among many. I have simply asked for input about what other people are experiencing in their journey. How else are we to learn and experience if we do not explore and share? I feel sorry for you in this area because for you to conclude thay everything else is "nonsense" just because of a bad experience with one path indicates that your journey has ended, although only you can answer that for a certainty. I had enough of the narrow view of "I am right and everything else is nonsense" when I was a Dub, so I keep a very open mind now. Also, I have had some experiences in my journey that are in no way "nonsense", but rather have been quite pleasant and informative. Meditation, Tai Chi, and acupuncture are just a few of these. Although I don't agree with your view, I do appreciate your input. Peace, exjdub

Because there is no way I will ever be a Christian again because the curtain has been opened and I can see behind it, however I have an open mind and have started some meditation practices. I have been thinking about visiting a Buddhist temple out of curiosity. So my question is two fold:
1.) For those who have visited a Buddhist temple, what is the proper protocol for visiting? The last thing I want to do is offend people by blundering in not knowing what to do, what clothes to wear, etc.
2.) What are your Non-Christian journeys? Taoism, mysticism, meditation, astral projection...whatever it is that you have chosen and why (if willing.)

i run into 6 sisters today . i would guess poineering. figured i'd stop and give them a try. i'm well known in this area, and wasn't even thinking they would talk with me. but i got a surprise. the young sisters, started talking with me. and i'm sure i knew at least one of the 70 year old sisters. we went into the new afake mag on blood. ( not my best wt subject) i ask the 3 20 something sisters. if you got hit by a car while out in field service today. and was dying from loss of blood at the hospital. could you tell the doctor . which blood fractions. the wt now says your allowed to have to save your life? no answers. so i said you just would bleed to death waiting for the hlc to show up? 2 of the olders sister start barking . we take no blood fractions period. i buzz tro the new awake and find the chart on fractions. hand it to sister grandma. and ask her which fractions the wt says you can now take? she gets mad closes the mag and tell me i don't understand it. sorry grandma I think it you that don't understand it.
NOW I GOt there attenion. i tell them it's like a combo sandwich with ham salami, turkey, 4 cheeses, lettuce, tomato, onions. pickles,oil vingar mustard and mayo. the wt now says you can take the sandwich apart. and eat it ingredent by ingredent. but not have the whole sandwich.! then i give a little lesson on how this fractions are made from stored blood. this goes on for about 10 minutes. with the older sisters trying to justify the wt stance. i draw the line and tell them the bi8ble says to pour blood on the ground. which of these fractions made from bloodwas poured on the ground? again i ask the younger sisters what would they tell the doctor if they were going to bleed to death in 30 minutes? what sister grandma says or are you going to explain the new bllod doctrine to the doctor. that you don't understand? grand ma starts getting upset. but the young sisters are interested.
i switch into false witnesses and ask grandma. is she honest? since she's been a jw since the 1940's go into vaccan ations and ask her to tell the younger sister about the vacc. ban she started turning red. i reminder her jehovah hates a false witness. now tell your young sisters how the wt said any tghinking christian would rather have small poxand polo the take a vaccanation. i asked her did you get your shots before school. she amitted no. i asked why? she wouldn't answer. so i told the young sisters her mommy was following the wt ban that has been lifted in the last 50 years. then i asked the young sister's you ever met on person with small pox or polio. ? they answer no.i tell them that at sister gradma's time , it was very common. today you next to0 never here about such deseases. why? because of shots. just think of the millions of lives saved. and at the time the wt was telling jw's you were following satan . if you got your shots. grandma was over a barrell.
i switched into 1975 and the generation of 1914. and again told to 2 older jw's that jehovah hates a liar. to make a long story shorter, their were dancing on the street trying to talk there way out of this false prophecy. but the younger sisters knew i busted them. it was written all over their faces. all the while i was writing down different wt pubication dates on a wt . to back up most of what i said to prove it. i handed the wt back to the most receptive sister. with my phone number on it. about 3 hour later this sister called me up and told me her partner and her looked up some of the pub's i wrote down . and were surprised i was RIGHT. we talked about 5 minutes more . as i was working at the tim e. i gave her freemind's to look at . she said she will call me with some more question. for a rabid firebreathing apostate. i think i did real good . john

I'm sorry Mouthy, but I am afraid you might be disappointed. The weather, and the beach, are awesome...but the place just doesn't look like Canada. I am very happy to live in Florida, for the time being, because we spend a lot of time at the beach..but the place just does not inspire me.
AK-Jeff: I agree with you about the mountains. I have seen similar beauty in Montana and Wyoming, but not as breathtaking. I would recommend a vacation in Alberta any time and will definitely be returning myself.
GBL: I should have posted that I was going to be in Calgary. I just wasn't sure if I would have the opportunity to go out or not, due to the wedding. But I will be back...
By the way...what is up with the alcohol prices? I had sticker shock! Triple what we pay in the States, in some areas.
JH: I highly recommend it. The West Is Best! I can say that coming from the East. Quebec is a nice Province as well, but I can't get Alberta out of my mind.

If anyone on the board is from Calgary, you are quite lucky to live in such a clean, wonderful, city along with such amazing surroundings. Banff is only an hour away and was the icing on the cake. To top it off, the people were awesome. Very friendly and very giving. We stayed with a couple who we had never met and they opened up their house to us and treated us like family. We have made friends for life ("worldly" people sure are a disappointment aren't they?...LOL). The only problem now is to make room for all of our new friends so that they can visit us in Florida in January!
I am packing and going to be busy doing the last minute rush thing, so I won't have opportunity to respond, but I will re-visit the thread when I have opportunity on Sunday. Thank you Canada!!!
Ps: I can say "eh" after every sentence with the best of them now! funny how easy it is to pick up...eh?
