Yes, that is a very interesting story! There are still people that live in the swamps in Florida (Everglades), quite a different culture. It would be soooo neat to be able to talk to some of these people, and get their viewpoints on life, etc. and what it is like living in a very different environment. Thanks for posting the story!

Spooky true story
by Leolaia ini heard a very bizarre fieldwork story today in an anthropology talk.
a female graduate student in the late '90s gave one of her professors a tape she recorded of her encounter with one of the "swamp people" in mississippi.
he put the tape aside and never listened to it until after she graduated but when he did, he was utterly amazed.

Hi! I am looking at my planetary sky charts, and I will try to describe for you how to find Mars. If you look towards the west a couple of hours before sunrise, you will see a Bright star, should be one of the brightest ones, but is not actually a star, as it will be Venus. You may even see a small sliver of the moon almost below it. Pretend that when you look at venus, you see a clock. Pretend that venus is the 4 on a clock, and then look over to the left and look for the "10", as on a clock. It will not be too far left, remember, pretend it is a clock. At the 10 point you should see a small reddish dot, that is mars. Follow that straight down, and see if it sits right above some type of hill in your area. That "hill" is where I would look. I would bet that this is the clue!!! Below is a site where you can get more info. Good luck!!! To the west to the west...

Percival Lowell back in the 1800's was actually the first person to describe Mars in great detail, and published a book about it!

Me again-Tomorrow before dawn, if it is clear out, go outside, somewhere where you can see the horizon. You should see a kinda brightish red twinkle, try to figure if that is Mars. See what direction it is, and what town lies below it in that direction. Will try to figure out more...

The early attraction could be one of the planets. I just heard on the news a couple weeks ago about the planets being in alignment, and they mentioned one of the planets can be seen just above the horizon just before the sun comes up. I will try to find out which planet it is----AHHHHH I think I may have it. Could it be Mars??? Mars has a red hue, Shifting sands. I will go online and try to do some research. Maybe the prize is hidden right below where Mars can be seen as it goes above the horizon??? Now you have me frantic to figure it out! Will try to help you out!!!

This site has been the most incredible help to me-UNTIL TODAY
by ohiocowboy inreading through some of the recent posts, ie; the topic of lazarus and the gay issue, i was flabbergasted at what i was reading.
i can't believe-well maybe i can, that some people on this site are calling gay people "faggots", and telling that person that they are going to get "what sodom and gomorrah got".. this site has been a godsend to me, and have been telling my friends how nice it is to be in with a group of people who can relate to my life, my feelings, my insecurities, and my fears relating to the org.
and not being a part of it anymore.

Thanks so much for all of your replies. It is encouraging knowing people really care, and hope that I can return the favor someday and be an encouragement to others!

So what exactly IS an apostate?
by somebodylovesme ini was under the impression that an apostate was anyone who left the witnesses, was df'ed/da'ed, or was just actively opposed to them.
but i was reading in my hubby's old "reasoning book" that an apostate is one who professes to believe in christ (but not the jws), claims to serve god (but is not a jw), tries to pull away current jws or attack them.
so, by that definition, would someone who fades away and professes no religion still be considered an apostate if he or she didn't try to take anyone with them and did not attack the religion?.

What is an Apostate-well let's see.....6'2", 190lbs, Black hair, hazel eyes, goatee, Italian,-oops wait a minute-that's me!
Seriously though, the family that brought my parents into the truth became inactive, then denounced their faith, and joined another religion. I do not believe that they spoke against the witnesses at all to others, as they just wanted to be left alone, but were considered apostates by our congregation. If only they would have met my parents AFTER they left!

Have been following your bird dilemma, and glad you are going to let them keep there space, time will "Fly" before you know it, and think about it, maybe by next Spring, you will be outside, look up, and hear a familiar peep flying overhead, and think to yourself, hey isn't that one of the birds that we let live in.......SPLAT!!! WELL, THERE'S GRATITUDE FOR YA!!!-LOL
